  • How to raise window stuck in down position if you don't have parts. This is intended as a temporary repair as it is just as much work as fitting new cables and the pulley. But if you need to get on the road....
An entire window regulator assembly (that was verified functional) would be the quickest fix. A couple of European vendors sell cables and the wheel - the cheaper fix.

Hi Steve, did you end up taking any pictures of the final repair. My cable is broken and I’m considering ordering the repair kit. I took it apart after watching your video and I’m worried about installing it incorrectly and ruining the new cables and pulley.

Make sure you take pics as you pull it apart. Note where the cables run on a new unit. You need to have the cables coming in and out of the proper holes for the correct angle. (there are multiple outlets from the motor)
Also!:Note which side of the motor that the cables run out of. (very important not to get them cris-crossed... or mount the motor backwards or upside-down. Otherwise you'll need to pull the cables back out of the motor...this can warp your brain!) Look at/take pics of a new assembly (check eBay pics if your cables are snapped/broken completely)
Look at a right if you're working on a right. Replace the rubber mounting bolts on the motor if the rubber is old or damaged or your cables will fail again due to the motor twisting.

Have you taken any pics of cable routing, my cable snapped and I have no clue how to put the new cables correctly...😩

@@aliessi Look at some C70 regulator pictures on eBay. (specifically for driver or passenger) Best to zoom-in on them with a laptop or monitor instead of a phone. (Note: when the regulator's motor isn't mounted it can flop around (upside down) this can mess with your head. ALSO: pay attention to which side the cable runs (behind or in front of the motor)
Many hours may pass by (best to do this on your day off and not after a work day)

@@robnation2475 my question is also how to wind up the cable once I open up the motor. I hope there’s a diagram with the new cable/pulley kit.

@@aliessi It's a hassle. Trial and error was my technique. No manual. Make sure you use the correct "ports" for your cable out of the motor. (there's more than 2)

@@aliessi Inside there is a double sided (grooved) wheel. Hopefully that isn't damaged as well. Make sure the 3 rubber posts/mounts are solid before installing the motor onto the door (or it will twist/torque and trash the cables again) Volvo sells the 3 little rubber legs individually.

i found it very usefull! You obviously carry a good set of tools with you to do this job when your out and about. -i did buy a repair kit that had the dual anchor spool, two cables and 2 spring stoppers-$ 38 on ebay

Mine are all messed up except my rear driver side. The two front ones will go down but not up.

What side was this that you replaced

When you got your parts for the final repair how did you determine how to set the spool- window all up or all down?

    • @robnation2475
      @robnation2475 3 ปีที่แล้ว

It doesn't matter. Take pics as you take it apart though. There are different "outlets" for both of the cables.

does the cable not going in the motor go on the inside of the door or the outside?

When removing the entire regulator assembly: Remove lower mounting NUTS and then turn the lower mounting BOLTS into the regulator frame so it will clear the top gap/opening of your door shell. (these are adjustment screw/bolts so note how many turns that it takes to set them once you reinstall)
In other words the 2 lower bolts have threads on both sides to adjust the angle of the glass... If these bolts are not adjusted properly the glass will bind as it runs upward into the weather stripping.

So I completely removed the bolts and did not account for how many twists to took. Any tips? My window sounds like it is grating against something when going up or down

@@bubblepopinc Remove the door panel and then just connect the window switch. Back the bolts out all the way and then turn them both in equally a full turn (and then repeat until the window moves smoothly).

@@robnation2475 other than the 2 lower bolts, do any of the other bolts account for the window movement?
Is there something else I should be adjusting slowly to ensure my window moves smoothly? It just makes this awful grating noise right now

@@bubblepopinc look for any window guides that may be missing felt-like material. Often the 3 rubber mounts for attaching the window motor split. If so the motor can twist and may rub on the glass. It's been over a year since I was in a C70 door so if I think of something ...I'll check back.
