I’m outside and a drone flew over my yard. I don’t want it taking pictures of me. What can I do? Honestly, probably a whole lot of nothing. There’s something called expectation of privacy. If you are walking down the street or having a picnic in a park, there’s no real expectation of privacy. You’re in public. Just like a TV cameraman can shoot video of you, so can a drone when you’re in that public space. The same goes for your front and back yards. If someone from the sidewalk can see you plain as day sitting on your lawn or barbecuing hamburgers, you can’t really say they’re infringing on your privacy.
