My football coach taught us of you hit someone hard, help them up, and say “don’t worry I’ll be right back” 😂😂😂 5:27 also this was one hit of three massive hits back to back!
8:02 I live i South Carolina, I was 12 years old watching this game, when that play happened not just my house exploded, the ENTIRE NEIGHBORHOOD WENT CRAZY! Clowned was one of the best College players in the 2010s and for good reason. An absolute freak!!
Before 1905, it was common for serious injuries and death. Teddy Roosevelt threatened to ban the game, if they didn't clean it up. As a side bar the Teddy Bear got it's name from T, Roosevelt. A fun little story.
A helmet flying off is mostly due to players not having it tightly secured on their head. My helmet would come off a lot when I played in high school because I purposely wore it loose for comfort reasons. Interestingly enough, I was injured MORE when It stayed on my head when loose, because it had a tendency to be pushed forward and down onto my nose causing my nose to break frequently during games. I even broke it during practice. So it's not always the other player's fault for a lost helmet.
The helmet isn't easily coming off. The hits are hard enough to knock a safety device that is strapped to their head off of their head. The way that they're heads whip when the impact takes place. Helps remove said safety device.
They should do a video on Tiger stadium. It's one of the loudest stadiums in the world. I used to live on Highland road, about a half mile from the stadium, and you could tell how the game was going just from the sound of the crowd. Of course, I was usually in the stadium.
chin straps on quarterback helmets are sometimes looser because they have to shout out the signals where a lineman can tighten theirs because they don't really need to talk as much.
A lot of these highlights were taken more recently. The game was even more brutal in the recent past, defensive players aren't allowed to lead with their helmets anymore and 'spear tackling' was allowed in college football until 2006 as long it was deemed "unintentional" I don't recall it being called as intentional too often before 2006. Intentional was banned in the mid 70s.
My friend’s son got a football scholarship to college. He played all throughout high school and stands 6’5” and about 300 lbs. Not a small guy. His freshman year, he went down to school for early training. He and another player, just as big, had a head-on collision (both in full protective gear) that. He ended up with a serious concussion and nerve damage down one side of his body. It was months before feeling came back. The event was enough for him to give up football. He gave up his scholarship and transferred schools.
@@TheBeesleys99it's good my dad got married I went to the Coca-Cola 600 then I graduated high school so I think James should do a gaming channel just like Nasher and prez and jobbo and do the NHL 23 be a pro series I'll send you their channels in the comments
@2:56 actually being tense is bad? Tom Brady talked about training himself to ragdoll on getting hit so he wouldn't get hurt. I remember thinking it was not true until a defender who tackled him went on a sports show called the right time with bomani jones and said Brady does that. Said it was like hitting water. Warren Moon, who also played really long too, trained to help himself with hits too. it's wild.
Helmet to helmet hits are illegal in American Football. It's a penalty they call Targeting. The player who layed the hit gets tossed out of the game and the offensive team loses 15 yards.
Two counter-intuitive observations: If you're going to lose the physics equation it's typically better to not see it coming for the same reason drunks tend to be less injured in traffic accidents. You're better 'rag-dolling' than being tensed when impacted as the same impact is spread across slightly more time. Also, college has a greater difference between avg. size & athletic ability, on average, which makes the hits worse than at the pro-level, generally speaking. Cheers!
Being a huge college football fan, I love these videos. Also, the fact that Millie laughed at the one hit makes me think she's starting to like these videos more.
Oh wow, this one ended with Cam Rising. That's my alma mater, so Cam's currently the big thing for our football team. He's a great all-arounder who definitely gets things done. It's a bit of a shame that Britain Covey has moved on to the NFL, but I would highly HIGHLY recommend looking at his highlights from his time at the University of Utah. He's a short little guy in comparison to all of the other players, but he's fast and practically unstoppable. Like if you want to see a kind of "underdog" get his day, just look up Britain Covey highlights and you'll see an incredible receiver and kick returner in his prime.
Some of the worst hits are after an interception. Someone invariably gets lined up usually on the offensive line because the sudden shift means you lose your normal perception of the field and leave yourself open to some nasty linebacker who will have an 8 yard head start before ringing your bell.
On that last clip, I was so shocked that Rising got up so fast. At the time I thought for sure he had a concussion. He played the rest of the game though. I can't wait to see how he does in his senior season this year, go Utes!
Those hits were hard, but you learn how to deal with it. There is a difference between being injured & being Hurt! My greatest Claim to Fame is that I Blindsided Brett Favre in High School! You guys think that’s hard watch Game 6 of the 03 Stanley cup finals. There was an unbelievable hit on a player that nowadays would send anyone into concussion protocol. What happened after was mindbottling. Let me know if you want the link.
The methche tackle (spell check keeps changing his name) when Florida player got interception and watching it live, you never saw that coming, we as game fans went completely nuts, lol, I think but can't remember, Bama scored a td in the next few plays after smith recovered the fumble! Lol..best hit the entire year, any game, and done by a reciever...
The blindside hits in a way are safer depending on head contact, tensing up is actually one of the worst things you can do (main reason drunk drivers are usually the ones to walk away from a crash in a DUI), when bracing for impact your much less likely to break a bone when you ragdoll and let your body do it's own thing however it's so hard to do when you know the hit is coming because tensing up is a natural human defense reaction that being said #GBO

"Taunting" after a hard hit and "blindsiding" is a 15 yard penalty for "Unsportsmanlike Conduct". Some of these incidents drew that penalty.
If helmets were so secure that they didnt fall off, players would break their necks CONSTANTLY

The helmets come off easily in case someone grabs your facemask. It is better than having your neck broken.

You should look up a hit from Michigan vs Penn St. It was so brutal it ended both players football careers.

I think you mean gaines 15 yards as it's a 15 yard penalty against the defense unless they call it against the offense then they lose 15 yards
Yeah there ya go. Knew it was something like that lol.
In high school when we hit someone so hard on a block that their feet came off the ground, we got a sticker for our helmet. It's called a de-cleater!

This was explained in the movie Due Date with Robert Downey Jr and Zach Galifinakis.
just about all the helmrts that came off were quarterbacks the dont usually get hit so they dont strap them properly
The helmets are also intended to come off fairly easily in the first place to avoid breaking someone's neck on a hit/facemask.
If a helmet comes off, the player must leave the game for at least one play.
