- On my way back from a trip was lucky enough to have my mobile radio on Union Pacific Channel 96 and I caught UP defect detector.

See you on the rails!
Just about a month ago, Union Pacific updated their defect detectors so they would not play this message anymore.
So no more Star Trek computer?
No more.

@@WestCoastRailroadProductions it's still her voice here in Houston. I know for a fact that MP 364.1 on the Houston sub still has it. For how much longer? Who knows.
@@AbelG8781 idk
Majel Barrett from Star Trek?
+Mark Bass no, I'm not sure who it is
Yea it's Majel Barret. They liked her computer voice work in star trek and got her to do these. Really cool.
@@mattortwein9932 apparently she just recorded the entire phonetic library before she died, and we now have her as the computer voice for the entirety of humanity
@@Choadis I just saw that on Reddit too.
Our detectors(NS) will only broadcast the train status/results twice. Our model railroad detectors will still broadcast the results and the axle count, except if any defects found.
UP Detector MP: 697.8
No Defects
Total Axles: 274
Speed: 46 MPH
Temp.: 51°F
Majel's voice will be the thing of the past.
Omg! Brenton81 has a video of a Union Pacific detector. He uploaded it today. Apparently, it still has the same female voice but, it didn’t play the defect or total axle count.
