This is the Sony 35mm f1.8 OSS lens POV photography test. I mainly use Sony APS-C crop sensor cameras. I use this as a portrait lens for my Sony a6400 camera when we went to a winter walk with my girlfriend.
I will show you my experiments and my real word usage. I think it's a very good starter lens. You can easily achieve very good results. This video can be a beginner's guide to photography. You can see how I find creative shots.

Fast aperture, Light weight, compact form factor and image stabilisation. Also 50mm equivalent field of view. This lens is a must have for every sony apsc shooter.

Thanks! I really appreciate! The video about the 35mm f1.8, but the vlog lens in the beginning was the sigma 24-70 f2.8 at 24mm. You can get similar look with the sigma 16mm f1.4 on apsc. 👌😎

Hi Peter. Szia! Thank you for this video. I have the same (an a6400 + 35mm 1.8 OSS lens). I noticed many of your shots had low ISO, between 100-160 and sometimes at 320. However, when I shoot, my Sony wants a much higher ISO for proper exposure, like 1600-2500, if I put it on auto mode. The only way I have been able to keep the ISO low is by entering program mode; however, then it's requiring slow shutter speeds for proper exposure, where as I see you are shooting at high speeds, 1/4000. Any tips?
Hi! Try to shoot with the widest aperture of your lens (1.8). My settings are depends heavily of the environment. If the sky is cloudy i have to go to higher iso. But i think up to 1600 iso its not horribly noisy. I dont really trust the automatic camera exposure. A lot of times you can't achieve the correct exposure, for example at blue hour you can try to set the correct exposure, but your camera is not capable. A lot of times it's better if you try to set it as you see with your eyes. Anyway the RAW files are so flexible, so if youre picture a little bit underexposed, you can bring it back in the editing part. Sometimes i use spot metering mode in my camera instead of Multi, becaues with this i could check only my subject and i can tell if it's uner or overexposed. You can check my a6400 setup video here: th-cam.com/video/ZtStLFdVa0I/w-d-xo.html I talk about the metering at 11:35. But the key is, don't want to see in the dark. Sometimes you can't make perfect exposure. Don't afraid to shoot in different exposures, you can see it in the editing part if it doesn't work.

I remember that there are a couple of pictures that i shot with different settings. But most of the time, yes. I like that 1.8 shallowness. 😀

Hi! I'm not familiar with Indian amazon, but if you try to find this lens name: SEL35F18 and try to find the E mont version because this made for sony apsc crop sensor cameras. I hope it helps.

At the first part of the video, you are recording you. Is with that 35mm 1.8? I want to buy it for my aps-c camera to vlogging for example in the car but i think i need maybe a 25mm or a 16mm. Thanks
Hi! I don’t use 35mm for vlogging its too tight. In apsc cameras you need at least 16mm. There are good lenses in this category, like sigma 16mm f1.4 or Sony 15mm or there are wider lenses like Sony 10-18 etc… if you use fullframe you need at least 24mm. At the first part i shot with a fullframe 24-70mm at 24mm. But the look is kind the same as the sigma 16mm on apsc. But i think maybe its too tight for vlogging in the car. Maybe the Sony 11mm f1.4 is better for tighter spaces. But if i were you i would rent some lenses for a day to see which is perfect for me.

Hi! If you follow this rule, you can avoid blurry images. Set your shutter speed like your lens focal length. It means if you have an 50mm lens, set the shutter to 1/50 at least or above depends on your subject. If you have optical stabilized lens, you can go under 1/50 shutter speed around 3-4 stops. But in my opinion nowadays we have very good ISO capabilities, so you can crank up if you need more light.
Very interesting. I believe the perfect Full Frame focal length 50mm ( Which is close to human eye viewing angle ) This lens is amazing regarding the field of view !

@@petersroom too bad I got only a 50mm F1.8 which will be like a 75mm tele on my crop body. Have you done a POV video with a 50mm equivalent on your channel ?
I haven't shot POV video with 50mm, because it's too tight. Around 75mm the shakes are too heavy and hard to focus if I want to do a POV style video. Anyway it doesn't look like a POV shot. You need to go much wider around FF24mm or wider. I usually use my GoPro if I want some POV video. With my chest mount I can make my hands free so you can see what I do with them.
