The Madonie Park, located in Palermo district, is a protected area since 1989. It includes the homonym mountain massif and fifteen little associated villages. It is part of the European Geopark and the global UNESCO Geopark networks. Actually, Madonie Park is one of the most attractive destination for ecological tourism in Sicily.
The beauty of this place is difficult to explain in few words as this zone offers several hints of interest.
First of all, the Madonie Mountains are a biodiversity sanctuary. Inside the park area live more than an half of all the Sicilian plant species and almost all of the typical ones. Wildlife is rich too, with all the mammal species of Sicily, half of the avifauna and most of the reptiles. The mountains itself are quite a challenge for geologists for the variety of rocks and the ancient origin of the range. Caves and gorges are the ideal places to read this exciting history.
Trekking fans will find into the park several trails, all well signposted, perfect to explore the wonders of the Madonie. Climbing mountains, crossing rivers, walking in the woods, circling lakes like mirrors of the sky, trekkers will feel the energy of this incredible land. Landscapes are breathtaking.
Not only biology, anyway. There is much more in this part of Sicily. History, culture, arts and traditions are almost everywhere in the countryside, in the farms and in the old settlements in a rare symbiosis among human beings, human activities and Mother Nature.
Last but not least, the villages included in Madonie territory deserve a visit as well. Each one of them has its own features and particularity. Historical buildings are an artistic heritage narrating the past of this land in walls and bricks. Villages are perfect to meet people, to listen to stories and tales, to observe the way of living. This is pristine Sicily, a treasure chest of traditions and culture translated in a delicious gastronomy.
So no problem if you don’t like to climb mountains and you prefer to spend your time walking along squares and alleys, the Madonie region will surprise you anyway!
Footage of this film was filmed in two different occasions in 2018 and 2019. I used always my Olympus OM-D EM5 MKII but I switched from an Eken H8R to a GoPro Hero7 during this two years. Drone shots are from a Mavic Air. Maybe some short clips was taken even with an i-phone 7.
For Post-production and colour grading I used Cyberlink PowerDirector suite 5, as always.
Photos are by Francesca Sparatore and her Nikon D3100.
The track “Seeger “ is by John Deley and the 41 Players and is available on TH-cam Audio Library.

Grazie!!!
Buon Natale!
