This isn't just used for the death of a royal its also meant to be used when reporting on a major disaster like 9/11 or the Boxing Day Tsunami and announcements about something seriously tragic. I also believe its been suggested that if reporting on casualty rates during a war tbis is what they should use
@@catrinamoy8101 That one was a bit different though. That one is the concert mix and featured slightly different instruments. I feel weird to even know this lol
Whoa, didn’t even think that just orchestrating the sheet (or maybe just taking the orchestra part out from the main remix used to this day?) and using less-dynamic camera movements would make that majestic and respectful feeling. Greetz from Poland
Actually, this sombre version was made early, and it was combined with BBC's Sairbeen ( Urdu's Language News ) a very long countdown - 4 minutes! But now, it's combined to national timeline of BBC news starts after an announcement of HRH Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Philip was died. Rest in peace.

It just shows cities with the occasional glance at the countryside. Not interesting at all for me. I hate cities. Give me what remains of the countryside any time.
Think it's more symbolic. Sombre is used in times of tragedy, and the clips of the population centres and iconic locations showcasing everything moving on as normal in a slow yet grand manner really help to emphasise that while it may be a time of darkness, the country keeps moving regardless in a solemn yet steady manner.

I presume it's probably been used in recent weeks (May-June, 2022) to open newscasts after the massacres in Buffalo, near San Antonio, and in Tulsa.
Today of all days this will surely be played?

Definately not the white cliffs of dover. Not imposing enough. But good spot on the others
Is it just me who finds it really calming until the last 5 secs
Quite likely meant to be so. When this one is needed, it might be preferable to have people be calm.

Can we just appreciate the fact that the bbc left the smoking woman in this at the end leaving the building? Lol
Angel of the North was also featured in the 2003 normal countdowns.
Well attention to detail, he’s changed the title for the queens death.
Stuck this on at the countdown to News at 10 the night Gorbachev died. Strangely fitting.
I wonder if they will use same edition for Queen Elizabeth II, or arrange a sombrerer one?
Probably the same but similar to the 1999 countdown.
I was thinking about that, too.
This style was used on the intro to South Today too, and presumably the other regions.

That's the whole point of them, yes. The beeps are an iconic countdown from the old days of basic radio broadcasting development.
