    If you define zeta to be the new variable whose constant set defines an orientable manifold y=y(x), then wouldn t d(zeta)/dx / d(zeta)/dy = -y'(x) which in turn is defined to be B(x,y)/A(x,y). So when you replace u_x and u_y by u_zeta and u_eta the vanishing term should be u_zeta not u_eta, you said otherwise while going over the theory i believe.

      We can take that choice of η such that Jacobian of ξ and η is non-zero. For η = y, Jacobian is non-zero and simple also. Any other choice of η for which Jacobian is non-zero will also work.
