    Once I was at the bottom of the Grand Canyon and ran into a group from a Scandinavian country and they were all wearing full packs and they were all barefoot, I was almost in disbelief because it was 101- 105 out and it was a rough hot trail.

    Bare feet are happy feet. That being said, regular beach sand in Southern California on a sunny July day can cause second degree burns to tenderfeet.

      Yes, indeed: bare feet are happy feet. I discovered this pleasure of walking barefoot since at the age of 3 (in 1962), which I still have even now !
      When you was the last time walked barefoot through a forest or mountain ? ☺
