The actors said that enemies to lovers (really adversaries to sort of friends to lovers on here, but kind of love at first sight too) is when you see something in the other person that you don't like about yourself, so you hate them at first.
The bee scene literally made me gasp because it was so intense and the chemistry was so palpable! I hadn't been fully buying their romance up until that point, but after that I was rooting for Kate and Anthony the whole way 😭
Same here!! His genuine concern for her safety and fear that she would drop dead in front of him like his father did..and the way her whole face changed when she realized his panic was completely serious...just...LOVE IT
Anthony didn't want a love match, because he didn't want to put his wife through the same grief his mother experienced, in case he died (and in the book, he was sure he was gonna die young) 🐝💜
The big thing that the TV show left out regarding Anthony's stance on finding a love match is precisely that certainty of dying young, and I think it was a disservice to his backstory. The TV show's first flashback shows how Anthony idolized his father, which is also depicted in the novel. The novel goes on to describe the source of that certainty of dying young as being the fact that Anthony cannot see himself ever surpassing his father in any way, including years. So, in the novel, Anthony's full reasoning for not wanting a love match is that he has seen how grief can ravage a family, so being certain that he will die before he is 38 (Edmund's age at his time of death), Anthony refuses to put someone he loves through that. Without the certainty of dying young, I think his backstory loses a little logic, but it is still a more compelling, unique reason than the tired trope of "I loved and lost, and now will not love again" seen in a lot of other media.
@@aray337 Exactly!! I wish we could've seen more of Anthony's and Kate's trauma in the series, so we could better understand how this shaped their characters and personality. 😕😕
@@alicevl4013 Oh, don't even get me started on the lack of detail in Kate's backstory. As nice as the library scene in the TV show was, it was really watered down by way of treating Kate's actual phobia of storms as "a little unsettling". It should have served as yet another example of how Anthony and Kate are very similar and compatible, but alas the opportunity was wasted IMO.
@@aray337 Yeah. And beliving that you will die on the same age or younger then your parents (or someone else who you admire) is more common then you think.
As someone who experiences panic attacks, I’d like to thank Jonathan Bailey for portraying one so accurately. I’ve really appreciated the conversations about trauma and mental health this season!
I love how most of female reactors are immediately clocked in about what choice the doctor wants Anthony to make whereas the most of guys are like: What is he talking about?" Also this Season is full of Mr. Darcy references - either to the Colin Firth' (fencing, wet shirt), or the one from 2005 - so get ready.
(1) the game of Pall Mall is when I realized Kate was an absolute perfect addition to the family, and (2) I also thought our guy was going to fall out the window there at the end. Like I was waiting for it.
I wish I could like more than once. I'm addicted to your reactions! Also, even though it's obvious to everyone that Kate and Anthony should be together (and their sexual tension should be a credited character), it's impossible to hate Edwina. She's adorable.
The Pall Mall game really shows you how Kate fits in so much better with Anthony and his family. Edwina is lovely and sweet but absolutely not the right match for Anthony and you see it in how Kate is constantly getting on Anthony's nerves and he can't keep his eyes off her. Also, yes, two episodes at a time please!
I think two episodes at a time, then the Finale is the perfect pace. Loving your reactions. BTW, we did see the king last season, it turns out he's suffering from dementia, or something similar and it was sad. Also, the reason Mondrich was looking pissed, was because Benedict had mentioned him building his business through 'honest work', and considering he probably got most of his start-up funds from throwing a fight, 'honest work' is a bit of a sore point for him, but he can't really admit to that publicly.
i was not emotionally prepared for the beginning of episode 3, even though i read the books and knew what happened to the father. i think episode 3 might be my favorite one. lots of great (if heartbreaking) scenes.

Loved your reactions to this show. It has the cliche tropes but the DRAMA!! Sooo good and keeps you watching it forever. Now for the zebras yes that is the correct pronunciation. The scene with the mom or child decision yeah for me I tend to be in awe at how far medicine has come in this century and last. When I was watching the movie Australia (Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman highly recommend reacting to) there had been a scene where I was screaming for the characters to perform cpr but according to my mom (she works in medical field) cpr was more common performed after the world wars which that is not that long ago and crazy it took us that long to learn about many medical acts.

Benedict this season is my favourite, look at him always in the background !!
I love that Eloise is quoting from A Vindication of the Rights of Women by Mary Wollstonecraft. Thumbs down on Penelope calling it "haughty." Jealous much?
Ok I’m sorry but Anthony’s little speech after throwing the poem in the fire was not romantic at all yet everyone swoons over it. The only good thing about it is that he’s honest, he basically insults Lord Lumley, calling his words ‘hollow’, then admits he does not want the same things as edwina, admits he feels no passion for her and that all he has to offer is that he’s dutiful. I mean the bar is so low 🤦♀️
his speech was not romantic but it was not meant to be. don't forget that Anthony is not interested in romance. he wants to find a wife who will NOT fall in love with him. the fact that Edwina decided to ignore all the red flags is her own fault. also, he said that poetry is hollow 'unless followed by action' which is true. if Lumley made a proposal, he'd not be hollow by any means. I appreciate the speech because it is very Anthony. even Kate recognised it. I also disliked him standing up for the Sharma's in ep.5 but most people find that scene very heroic. I found it insensitive and stupid. as a modern woman, I wouldn't want someone to defend my honour any more than I'd want them to marry me just to give me a good home. but let's remember that this story takes place in 1814 when the rules were a bit different :)
@@reallollabunny oh I completely agree Anthony didn’t intend for it to be a romantic speech. I wasn’t trying to suggest that. It’s other people thinking it’s romantic that bugs me. Kate understood him completely but edwina 100% swooned over that speech and appeared to completely ignore the fact that he literally told her theirs would be a passionless marriage……. Then in a later episode cried “do you mean to say his lordship feels no passion for me!” As if he hadn’t explicitly told her exactly that from the beginning. @@amycope7970 I completely agree with you :) I appreciate the series for what it is in the context of the period but there are definitely a lot of people who try to 'modernise' and 'chick lit' it a bit too much. Anthony is the Darcy of Bridgerton - he fell in love begrudgingly, "in spite of all his endeavours / against his will, against his reason, and even against his character " and I appreciate it even if it is less than romantic. :D
Not sure if anyone answered, but yes, they do have a lot of idea of backstory and such because these are based on a book series by Julia Quinn (and to answer in case, again, this series came out well before Gossip Girl).
