Pat does seem to be a fine person except when he is threatening violence against, e.g., Kenny G: "...Everything I said here is exactly the same as what I would say to Gorelick if I ever saw him in person. and if I ever DO see him anywhere, at any function - he WILL get a piece of my mind and (maybe a guitar wrapped around his head.)"

It was a different time for sure. Also Pat was arguably at his peak popularity. The Secret Story was a gold record as were the 2 previous PMG albums. I saw his Secret Story tour stop in my city where he sold out a 3000 seat venue. The PMG regularly played 5000+ seat venues, even bigger in Europe.
Unfortunately today’s music landscape doesn’t really favor a jazzy instrumental guitarist and his group becoming that big. Admittedly the music Pat and PMG made in the 1980s and 90s was special.
There are great musicians recording and touring today but you need to seek out their music and keep an eye on their socials so you can see them when they play the small jazz club in your town, if you’re lucky enough to have one.

If I was told I was going to be marooned on a desert island, and could pick one CD to have and listen to, it would the Metheney's "Secret Story" album. It is in truth the culmination of decades of his maturation and development as a musician, stamping his own style on jazz fusion.

Secret Story is so great that, let me say this. My car had a CD player and a great set of speakers and a huge amp. I had Secret Story in that CD player for 3 years straight, no lie. I had no changer or any other fancy tech. It's got 74 minutes of music or thereabouts. I thought the album was the best album in history. The details are engeniusly selected. Each riff was perfectly balanced but I see here he's making up new stuff for a small acoustic set and it's absolutely perfect as it is so I'd just say that this demonstrates Methenys genius.
Ha ha, yes the most famous toothbrush in the world. As a great smiler, what a great symbol for Metheny. Right?

Pat's sound is distinct, and recognizable -- it's his signature. However it's also always fresh, new and even exhilarating -- uplifting. God has blessed him with much creativity. Secret Story is one of his best albums, much emotions are released throughout the different chords he plays. He takes his listeners on an enjoyable sight-seeing musical journey.
Even the cover art on his albums are intriguing, they get you wondering about what was going on at the time and place they depict. It's also refreshing to see that his fame hasn't gone to his head, a very down-to-earth person who obviously really loves his work.

Eric Sierra-Franco I ALWAYS want to know who they think is a good musician (who impresses them). I also want to know who they like playing with, & who they wish they could play with. As a guitar player, I'd like to know why/how they got to playing the instrument they play. IE, John Scofield said he was on a gig in Japan & businessmen from Ibanez brought a guitar of theirs & asked him to just play it. He said that was the early 80's & he's still playing that exact same guitar. (Just for starters...). PS- thanks for asking!

I know it is their job to elicit information from the guest that they are interviewing, but when interviewing musicians who are also there to perform in order to promote a CD that is about to released or has just been released, I wish that some of these talk show hosts would learn when to STOP talking and let the musicians do what came to do : play!! I was sooo impressed with the second part of this video stream where the host, Cassandra Clayton, just gave the most basic of information by briefly covering his background, how long he has been playing, what the name of the new CD is, and what song the group was going to play from that CD, and then she just got out of the way and said "take it away.." . I wish that more talk show hosts would emulate this woman, who knew when to inquire, when to listen, and when to just let the band play!!

You took the words right out of my fingertips, Wayne. I agree with you and had already written my feelings about it - see below. I have faith, however, that for every insecure, fickle, cringeworthy interviewer out there, there is also a great, empathetic human one like Cassandra Clayton!
      ----
FIRST INTERVIEW: I am intrigued that anybody would want to watch a show with such jittery, superficial interviewers. A pathetic reflection of the times. The mood generated is one of a pretty housewife interviewer who is interested but is incapable of any depth, alongside arrogant, disinterested male whose sole interest is spouting the next quick wit.
SECOND INTERVIEW: Cassandra Clayton. What a contrast to the first interview! She comes across as genuinely, deeply interested, admiring without adulating, and asking more helpful questions.
BOTH INTERVIEWS: Mr. Metheny effortlessly maintains, as another commenter notes, a calm, honest and self-deprecating demeanour.

Regis being Regis...Pat comfortable in his own skin. Great communicator getting his point accords to listeners what his music is about and the process he used to put the product together. Calm demeanor equals music that is so pleasant. A friend brought me to his videos and I'm glad she did. Love the guitar work.

of course it is their show and Regis and Kathy said, Pat Metheny is the biggest name we got on the show today?

Metheny effortlessly maintains, as another commenter says, a calm, honest and self-deprecating demanour.

Is the Guitar with the ToothBrush :-). Notice near the Bridge at 5.14
Anyway, i love this album, and the second version with the extra CD turns the work even better. Love this version without the Sitar.
