Don’t know anything about engines or how I stumbled across this video but after watching it and reading the comments I’ve come to the conclusion that everyone and I mean everyone is an absolute expert.
Use gravity to install a cam. Before putting the block on an engine stand, stand the engine up right. With no main caps on, drop the cam in slowly. Use your hand to guide it down from the inside. If you want to be really picky and perfect, there is a tool you can get that bolts to the end of the cam. Its actually a handle. And if you have to, makes it easy to put it in a block that is horizontal . In this video, he used a couple of bolts to hang onto. You won't scratch the cam bearings with a lobe like he did. Use engine oil on the bearing surface of the cam, not cam lube. This will give you a true reading how the cam fits and turns. If you then put the block on an engine stand, you can make sure with the block upside down and visually see if cam lube is on all the lobes. And if not, brush cam lube on your cam and turn it and inspect it.
400 HP maybe a little more. Not really anything to hide with that low amount. Guys down in Georgia will get 600 to 1000 HP and will help you with anything and tell you anything you need to know. That’s true racers, now when you get to the high level of about 5 sec and lower in 1/4 mile then you can have secrets.
Hell yeah man!!! That's what it's all about!!! It's always awesome when you're at the track having issues with your car and guys you've never met before come up to help you out! Its people like that that make every day at the track a blast. Whether you're having issues or running your fastest pass. Its always good times with people like that around!
Well. I accidently did this and pulled the cam to change valve seals. I remember the valve lash being tight. Now i how do i fix this mistake before final assembly? An explaination would b nice❤
I really don't understand why people are so pissy about giving out cam specs. It's just a stupid thing to be pissy about. Let your tuning be the thing that makes you stand out, not some pre defined add to cart component.
I just picked up my first Sbc and don’t know a thing but I’m planning on replacing the cam and I’d like to know what else to have to be ready for as far as purchases
Any advice would be appreciated. I have a stock 350SBC. I'm trying to get a Kim. Put INR v camp but I don't have the fundage to mess with Springs on the heads. What's a good rule of thumb stock? 350RV cam size.
If I was you I would replace the lifters, and check the springs. You may need a more aggressive spring depending on the cam. Also you’ll need to make sure your pushrod length is correct with the new cam.
A real secret is not slapping lube all over the whole cam before installing it. Lube between the first two cam journals. Slide it in and let it rest on those two while you lube the rest. Another secret. Call Comp Cams and tell them what you have and what you want the vehicle to do. Or anyone that custom grinds cams for that matter 🤦♂️
Imagine doing all that typing and not making one logical point or argument.... man I’d feel cheated if I was you.... where did you come up with any of that lol?
Well that depends on a few things. What heads and how much lift you can handle with the guides, how much spring pressure you’ll need for the lifters and whether the press in studs will handle that or not, valve clearance, trans, rear end. Lots of stuff
After installing my roller cam in my small block Chevy is difficult to turn with two fingers unlike yours what could be the cause of this? It's a brand new roller cam and cam bearings
Who installed your bearings? I would check to make sure there isn’t any spikes or bumps from the install. Clearance is tight so it doesn’t take more than a hair sized item to make one really tight
From one car guy to another, taking my advice from the wisdom of old mechanics, if you put in a different cam you're going to want to go in with different heads. If you just do a cam swap make sure that the lift does not exceed that of the lift those stock heads can take .btw a cold air intake is nothing significant, it does NOT increase hp, but what it does do is help with the fuel/air atomization inside the intake manifold. Thus making run more efficiently. Depending on you're modifications to the motor you're probably going to have to burn a chip.
On top of that, you're going to want to run a different exaust setup, a good head/cam upgrade will benefit for sure. But it's a domino effect....replace one thing, and you're soon going to want to replace everything else, all in the name of more power...
@@michaelsanders151 cold air intake does nothing? If it's a good one, it sure does. If it actually takes in cold air it will make more horsepower because cold air is denser therefore there's more air molecules in the same physical space and you could burn more fuel. Also if it's less restrictive than the stock intake, more air comes in and out of the engine making more horsepower. And burn a chip? In a BRZ? This isn't 1996. You get a tune. Don't talk out of your ass.
Come on bro let us know what kinda cam that is..!! I'm building a 350 for my 1981 Chevy El Camino SS and I'm trying to get as much horse power as I can..
there is no secret, this guy is talking out his ass.....and is not a master engine builder by any means.him not giving you his cam information is actually doing you a favor... so,now down to brass tax: 1)what compression are you running? 2) do you have flat top or dished pistons? 3)what rear gear is your el camino? 4)what transmission are you running? 5) what stall torque convertor if its auto? 6)what heads are you running? 7)is it carb or efi? all of these questions need answers to buy the right cam, don't get a cam someone else has EVER.... get a cam that works with your combination.call lunati, comp cams, summit and talk to someone who isnt an idiot like this guy
CAm will go in with the distributor gear at the back for a sbc I think the gear for a ls cam is at the front because that’s there the distributor is not sure about other motors
Anyone know where you can get a speedometer for a 1978 cabellero it’s just like a el Camino but made by gmc and only around 500 to 600 made. I can put a Camino speedometer in it but don’t want to. Since the only difference between the two trucks is the speedometer. Looked everywhere and can’t find one.
no ones but hurt, its just stupid.its like adding fake drama unnecessarily and its kinda gay,no one really gave a fuck until you played a weird little game.
trillrif axegrindor and here you are in my arena..... you need to adjust your idle it’s a bit high lol. Dude with 15 subscribers and two videos and a car I doubt you built, when I get my car finished come down with your title 🤷🏻♂️

I agree why not let people know how to maximise their horsepower that way everyone else steps their game up rather then be a jabroni..!!
5 second 1/4 huh, like a pro mod? I believe your on the wrong video here. Go spread your vast knowledge elsewhere.
He sure knows how to lub that shaft
I’m fuckin dead

His “secret” to 500 hp is a 200 shot of nitrous. Jk nice video 👍

When upgrading the cam to a more mild/choppy set up would I need to also upgrade any other parts for a stock 350?? Or could a cam just be thrown in?

The sandals add 50hp 😂
52 to be exact lol
I think he should offer a t-shirt that has "I know something you don't know" printed on it.
Bet
Thanks for the video man and beautiful paint on that engine!!
do you need new cam bearings in the block for your new camshaft
If they are in good shape no, if they are worn much, yes.
I have to change my camshaft just curious if $1000 is too much to pay?? Inexperienced guy here
For a cam or for someone to do it for you?
How do u know in wish position to put the cam ?
Victor Rodriguez the cam gear can only go on one way, then the timing marks on both gears line up with each other
Automatic or manual
I have a 99z28 & i want to cam , do i just get a cam kit ?

@@BoxHeadBrett ever find out why ?
@@cammontreuil7509 yes the machine shop said its perfectly normal with a brand new cam and bearings. after rotating it more it turns easier.

GOOD VIDEO MY BROTHER
Thank you!
What lube did you use on the cam bearings in the white tube?
Lucas Assembly....

Back in my days you were doing good if you had 1 HP per cubic inch of displacement for a naturally aspirated engine. Have things changed that much? 😂
11.5-1 “on pump gas”😂 good video man but lets be real
It will run on 93 🤷🏻♂️
secret oooooo cam secret ..LAME
No retaining plate???!!!
Rafael Martinez you must be new to this lol.
That's why I ask... In the middle of doing a cam and my retainer won't clear my cam so I'ma just have to put a button for the timing cover
Just put some STP on it.
That's so oldie but goodie .
I just learned putting a Vw bug engine together but I went half and half worked out great .
