    It's pretty amazing how they keep re inventing this game. You may be tempted to think that they can no longer innovate, and yet they come up with these new editions that are not just "thematic" but bring really new game mechanics. Thanks for the review Z, I will get that game ^^

    How did you find the rules Zee?
    We're kinda Pandemic addicts but even so, it kinda felt as if the rule book could have done with an extra page in it, the water purification explanations felt a bit rushed - considering they went to the trouble of including some lovely artwork pamphlets I would have liked to have seen a bit more of a thematic explanation for some of the newer rules.

    Zee... normally I'm not drawn to Pandemic, because I'm more of a solo player... but this game has some great game mechanics and I'll put that on my "to buy list" after Scythe and Mare Nostrum. ***I just ordered "Bear Valley", the expansion for both "The Grizzled" and "Bang, the dice game". Thank again for introducing me to many games I probably wouldn't have discovered. Looking at Neuroshima Hex as a future buy. Keep up the great reviews... love card games.

  • @Stephen-Fox
    @Stephen-Fox 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm liking these takes on the Pandemic line, and if we get these instead of expansions to regular Pandemic from now on I'll be happy, in the same way that we get a Ticket to Ride map or two each year (And it makes sense that they'd be base sets, rather than , since there seems to be very little overlap between Base Pandemic and these, new infection decks, new player decks, new map, new roles, bunch of new components in both this and Cthulhu, though more of that in Cthulhu due to using cultists and Shogoths rather than disease cubes)
    How would you compare this to the differences between TTR and the various other base sets and alternate maps, just for a sense of scale of how different this is to regular pandemic - Personally, I'd rate Cthulhu as being about as different as base TTR and TTR:UK, while this looks more like India compared to base TTR - some new stuff, but nothing completely out there.

      I'd go with the original Pandemic for your introduction, there are some good expansions (On The Brink but ignore the bio terrorist) but if you enjoy the games concept then Iberia has been different enough to warrant buying it in it's own right.
      We've really enjoyed our games of Iberia and it's going to get played a LOT, but if I was starting out, I'd still stick with the route we did... base game, then the expansions, then legacy and then Iberia.
      Cthulhu Pandemic, despite being a big fan of the many tentacled friend, has left me cold.

    • @TonyMorel
      @TonyMorel 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      (having said that, not sure on how limited of a supply Iberia will be, that could be a deciding factor, if it's got a limited run then it's such a good game I'd not risk missing out on it)

    hmm. 2 pandemic style games within a month?!?!? I like the thematic aspects of Pandemic Cthulhu a bit better. I like the addition of the cards that give each virus it's own flavor. Pandemic following steps of Love Letter? :D Well, this version looks great (better than Cthulhu based). I wonder if they would be able to come up with something similar, but still different enough in the future. And everyone knows which continent could provide a lot of thematic cues..

    Question for the Pandemic veterans out there: As someone who has never owned a Pandemic game, would it be OK to jump right to 'Cthulhu' or 'Iberia'? Or are they too much of a goofy tangent to represent a proper Pandemic experience?

    • @VaultBoy13
      @VaultBoy13 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I think any version of Pandemic, except maybe Legacy, is something you can just jump into. Cthulhu and Iberia add some mechanisms, but I think they still remain light enough to be gateway games.
      If you're looking to purchase a Pandemic game, purchase the theme you're most interested in.
      - Pandemic - Cure and treat 4 diseases in a modern setting
      - Iberia - Research 4 disease in a historical setting
      - Cthulhu - Stop the old ones
      Other factors to take into account:
      - Pandemic has three expansions that offer a wide variety of gameplay. In fact, I would say if you enjoy regular Pandemic that the On the Brink expansion is a "must own".
      - Iberia is a limited release. Once all the copies have been sold, you'll have to find copies second-hand.
      Last, if you're looking for something a little heavier, then I highly recommend Pandemic: Legacy. You can, pretty much, play base Pandemic as many times as you'd like until you're familiar with the game. Provided you don't destroy base components while playing the Legacy part of the game, you would have something very similar to the complete standard Pandemic game upon completion. But, you'd also have a map that tells the story of your Legacy campaign. I think you'll be a couple roles short of what's in the standard Pandemic box, and the roles will be on player sheets rather than the cards. So, that would make incorporating expansions a little trickier.

    • @trevorcummins6657
      @trevorcummins6657 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Much appreciated! Thanks for all the excellent info. If the verdict is essentially "Pandemic is Pandemic", then I'm going to find my favorite flavor and dig in. Cheers!

  • @Fuzzyfoot88

    I think Matt learns more and more with each new version of Pandemic to the point that original Pandemic is kind of blah now. Iberia is it's own game that is deeper thematically and deeper mechanically. I don't see any reason to play Original Pandemic anymore with this version out there. If they make Pandemic 3rd Edition, it'll probably just start with all these more thematic ideas right out of the gate.

  • @BuckishDweeb
    @BuckishDweeb 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Looks the same. Big deal you travel by rail instead of air. That last variant is the same idea as virulent strain. Nothing new to warrant a special purchase if you own the original + expansions (which have far more options combined.)
