Tornados at night are a whole new level of scary. For those, the more lightning, the better, so you can actually see it.

For about a week, we thought this and the Mayfield tornado were one big tornado. It wasn't until there was proof that this tornado did die and recycled about a few miles north and made the Mayfield tornado.
For a short time, this tornado was called the "Quad State Tornado" and it would've beaten the 1925 Tri-State Tornado as the longest tracked tornado is history, oh well.

I appreciate that, when it comes to weather reactions it just baffles me. Even though I’ve mentioned it before the fact I come from a country that is so mild in every aspect of weather (thankfully) seeing footage of tornadoes is such a fever dream.

The footage of the past week is intense. Greenfield Iowa got decimated. Temple texas gir gir hard as well

    • @jacekatalakis8316
      @jacekatalakis8316 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

The thing that gets me about Greenfield is the point that debris was seen up to 30-40,000 feet on radar. That tells you all you need to know about how utterly violent and a monster that tornado was. I hope the revised EF scale is announced to be in use soon

the fact that the Greenfield tornado slabbed houses while moving so incredibly fast is just beyond me

@@featherweighthate Went back to watch Ryan's stream. He said it was going 80-90 mph. The fact it can apparently (since that got removed from the Wikipedia writeup I think?) slab homes while nearly going 100 mph. I think we just saw what the Tri State Tornado could well have looked like, compare what it looked like on chaser streams with descriptions of the Tri State twister
EDIT: Okay huh, all the official survey is saying is EF4 damage and homes were damaged or destroyed. Can't find the slabbed bit anywhere but I saw it on streams, it's just incredible that a tornado going 80+ mph is able to do that level of damage and cause that much destruction

@jacekatalakis8316 the NWS loves to rate EF5's EF4. Greenfield was EF5. Mobile radar measured wind speeds of up to 220 mph. But it won't be rated that

I live on the south side of Jonesboro Arkansas, my family and I had to take shelter when those twin tornadoes came through, we watched on the news afterwards as it hit the nursing home and more. There was also an Amazon warehouse that got leveled and there was a candle factory where the managers made their employees stay, several died and I think the candle factory was put out of business afterwards from lawsuits.

The one in Bowling Green hit around 1:30 AM on December 11th!!! Also the same night as the Mayfield one. But I think it hit early enough to still be on December 10th, but I don't know for sure.

15:44 as you saw here storm chasers are critical to tornado response as they can often be the first people on the scene of a flipped vehicle. Many emergency services shut down for their own protection during strong tornadoes so these storm chasers are often trained in first aid to help wherever they can
Another thing I believe the mayfield tornado touched down only a few miles away from where this stopped. In the panic of the aftermath many people (myself included) thought we had a quad state tornado since the damage just never seemed to end but about three days later is when they figured out it was 2 different tornados where the storm jumped a few miles of land

The recent Greensfield tornado footage is crazy! Reed Timmer has a video of the tornado shredding a wind turbine and it collapsing. You can see the sub-vortecies dance around the tornado. I tracked it live on Ryan Hall's stream and it was my first tracked tornado on Radar Omega

You should react to “The Tornado Outbreak of Dec 10-11th 2021” by Incidents. It’s a really good video that talks about every EF3+ tornadoes that happened on that day. It talks more about this tornado, the Mayfield tornado, and all the other tornadoes that spawned throughout the night

  • @HahnJames

To answer your question of how you recover from losing a family member like that. The answer is that you don't, not completely. You have a sense of what is normal before the incident. That sense of normal is abruptly ripped from your life and a gaping hole is left that was once occupied by your family member or other loved one. You have to develop a new sense of normal. It can be a long and painful process but, hopefully, as time goes on, you find new tools and gain new skills to help you cope and keep moving forward. You will always carry a sense that there is something missing, someone missing from your life. While you may eventually be able to fondly remember the person you've lost their absence will always be felt some times more keenly than other times.

This is one of those tornadoes that lives rent free in my head. It got international coverage and was on the front page of the BBC. Think on that, the front page of the BBC. Remember all that was going on in the UK in Dec 2021, and this tornado got put on the front page. It was either the lead story or very close to it, and was covered for several days. You had people who never normally made tornado content talking about it with varying degrees of accuracy and what they talked about. And just for a dose of terror, go look up how many times the counties the Quad State storm went over got hit with warnings after that outbreak as well. It felt like for a long while after in 2022 we'd get warnings for the same storm track.

We got hit by twin EF2s May 10th 2024 around 6:50am in Florida. That was scary as hell and caused a lot of destruction. So I hope I never have to face anything above an EF2 (I never want to experience another EF2 again eitherI
I couldn’t imagine experiencing these EF4-EF5 tornadoes. That’s just horrifying and catastrophic. ESP the rain wrapped tornadoes and those that hit under cover darkness.

Basically it was initially thought that this was one mega long tracker, but it lifted before putting another EF4 down that hit Mayfield, KY
Unlike the F5 from 1925 this wasn't as long track, but still nuts for December standards

This is hard to watch, my uncle & aunt's house was hit by this tornado outside of Mayfield, KY. My aunt & a cousin weren't directly killed but the circumstances was because of the tornado's damage. There are a lot of videos & stories I'd not seen or heard before. I guess I was caught up in my family's circumstances. They originally thought this went thru 4 states but it "recycled" to move on to through KY,

this was first tornado before the same storm produced the Mayfield tornado it was thought it was the same tornado but it roped out. The boat could of been due to it weakening or fact it was in the water making it harder to get winds to get under the boat and pick it up it could of been anchored either way there lucky.

The camera crews riding with these ambulance crews were making a Tv show on the day and life of first responders the day moore got hit.
