One of the things that stands out to me with this case was when he was released after his first arrest, the “party” comments as he was leaving jail. It was poor taste! I was shocked that a school shooter would have even had that opportunity. Now listening to the evidence, this boy has major problems. How the heck did he even have a gun, and what a fool to bring to a school!! There is definitely more to this story. I also just read he violated the bond with a bad drug screen, 😮. The poor victims are more than the ones shot. As an educator, I pray I will never have to face this kind of situation.

There is one damning part of testimony that may score not much but some leniency. The shooting victim apparently planned this fight because based on the testimony, he gave another student a phone to record the fight before it was provoked. At some point, a gun was produced, but still, what are you doing with a gun in school in public school where every school in this country has a no weapons policy in place? Self defense can be a factor, but no one is supposed to have a gun in school unless authorized. It it comes down to it, his problem with self defense in that situation is that he pursued him from the classroom and into the hallway then shot him 3 times while standing over him. Reasoning with the jury would suggest to them that self defense with a deadly weapon is to shoot where you are, stay put or take evasive maneuvers away from a threat, not not into the threat. That is an official rule of gun ownership that prevents a shooter from being put on trial and if the shooter dose go on trial and the evidence shows that you backed off and only shot when felt threatened because the target kept advancing towards you, you will most likely be exonerated. The argument of this whole trial is that was he using self defense or did he want him dead out of retaliation? I can't see him being exonerated especially with additional charges that involves bystanders being shot which can get a self defense claim thrown out because is you shoot at your attacker, miss, but still shoot and kill your target but shoot someone else by mistake, you will be charged according to the out come if that shooting. So, you gun owners take this trial and what I said as a lesson to gun ownership, because there has been a lot of people going to jail lately because they thought they had the right to shoot and kill especially with many of them invoking a fight first then eventually shoot and kill.
