So much, i saw it in summer 2008 and weeks later i was hiking in switzerland on my own for 10 days. Today my plan is to go to Canada and start a new chapter of my life
I swear that book made me look at everything differently. I was raised to question the establishment, and to avoid conforming, and i even rebelled against my own parents who were rebelling against society by living by their means. I found myself living outside of my means, and eventually was to a point of no means. I was destitute, and without a home. I was a failure, but i found contentment with nothing, and i remembered Into the Wild. The movie came out. Changed me again. Life is not property.
his journey is an ode to life... death is just a part of the cycle, living your life is the best thank you one can give to the gift of life. his journey was one of spiritual endeavour, his body carried him through it.
It's amazing the difference of perspective. The original trailer is my go-to for "inspiration," yet when I watched this rendition it is just as powerful yet for very different reasons. It proves the quote I've come to believe in, "there is no comfort in the growth zone, but there is no growth in the comfort zone."
the amount of potential Chris had was rediculous.. he could have literally gone for the stars and beyond that. Somehow, through the most of simplistic means, he did just that though, or at least i'd like to think so. He lived like very few ever will. He enjoyed nature which is just looked and then simply forgotten. This man made me realize not to conform to what society wants you to conform to, but to conform to what your soul wants to conform to.
@@luiscaetano6184 I'd say I'm where I wanna be at career wise, but not home life wise. Mostly because my wife is in heartfailure and everything has been super stressful lol.
McCandless really was onto something. Though he realize he needed people to share his happiness with, he realized that our over crowded society has complicated life and made it almost a chore just to be happy. How much is enough? What can we live with and still be happy? To what end do we work countless hours just to satisfy our materialistic wants?
I went on my walkabout when I was his age. Sold my car and my goodwill furniture, hitched rides all the way down to Oaxaca, Mexico, back up through Northern Cal., crossed into B.C., Alberta, walked on a glacier, and then over to Saskatchewan. Entered the U.S. through North Dakota, went down to Texas (where my parent lived), and finally back to SoCal. The only difference between me and him is that I was prepared, perhaps less idealistic... and lucky.
I owned my own rig. I was a flatbed trucker for 30 years. Saw every place this guy saw more than once. I was happy. I was independent. I was free. Still am. Now I got and ole lady. Sometimes I wish I was back on the open road.
I have begun doing alot more traveling on my time off on my motorcycle...may not be to the extent of Chris....but it really opens your mind and gives you a new outlook on life.
I respect this movie and the person behind it but I also respect the people who see it as an example of the life they should have!! together we can change this world... bring the peace and the love to the earth that demands it!!! enjoy this tune!!! because colorblind or not the air I breath is full of colors!! and I am not letting governments and machines destroy this colorful fantasy I have!!
this guy had the right idea. ever since i first saw this movie about 10 years ago i wish i could do what he did, just amazing his life may have been cut short but atleast it wasnt filled with bullshit. judging from the movie here id say he had an amazing life full of freedom and adventure and honestly thats what i look for in life, exitment, great food, and adventure. love goes out to the mcandless family. chris had such an impact on me
you made a great video, by this confronting, touching, emotional, inspirating, sad, happy, weird, just beautiful story that made me cry, laugh, and realise in what f*cking society we live. I was just eleven. so why can't many adults realize that? makes me want to get away from this world, because i know that i don't want to settle down or whatever i'm supposed to. giving my money and presents for my 13th birthday away. still waiting for my time to come. good luck, everyone who feels the same.
Great Song and Great Movie. Nice collaboration if you have read the book or watched the movie (Into The Wild). But I'm sure this collaboration is very confusing to anyone who has not watched the movie or read the book or not know anything about Christopher McCandless.
the Sean Penn's movie is great. The John Krakauer's novel inspired by the true story is as interested as it, though more, cause the writer try to analyse the hero's way and his educational trail.
What would you do? Lose your job after 10 years, in your mid forties in the process you lose your home car your livelihood. Then depression and anxiety settle in because you can't find work. In a shitty economy with a recession you can't even find a minimum wage job because your overqualified and now considered to old. What would you do? Months pass by eventually years pass by and still no job. Not only is your mental state deteriorating but so is your health. You begin to not sleep for months and you can't eat properly then you begin to start drinking and doing drugs to cope. Years continue to pass and you forget what it is like to work ever again. Your mind and body start to fade. Your mind then begins to play tricks on you enticing you to act recklessly. You begin not to care about your life anymore and want a way out. Engaging in dangerous behaviors, drinking and driving, walking outside at late hours, crossing streets during rush hour etc.......What would you do? When all hope is gone, What would you do?
Christopher (aka Alex) was a headstrong young man destined for self destruction. He had great potential and was not receptive to all the people who loved him and tried to save him from himself. He had issues with his parents, but there are parents that are much worse. Civilized life can be nasty and ugly, but nature (on its own terms) is dark and ruthless.
in 7 days i am going to southamerika just to travel around with low budget.......sure i now the film my nikname on facbook is supertramp ;-).........this vid is unbelievable...i just cried....
I am ready, to go into the "wild"... this world is too painful. I fully identify with his journey and unwillingness to participate in this ludicrous society. To Carol Vickers Gilbert, if you ever get to read this: that last weekend in November 2019 together was the best time I have had in, many years, so thank you for giving me that. You awoke something inside of me and felt I had another chance at a wonderful life with you, the only person I wanted to be with, but alas, you did not give us that opportunity, which was incredibly heartbreaking and made me lose faith in any goodness there was left in this life. I'll never understand your reasoning and timing. What you did, shattered me into irrepairable pieces, I gave you my all, too quickly, in hindsight, and did not realise that you were probably playing a FOOLISH GAME with my heart. To Cheri, thank you for all you did for me, and I am sorry we did not work out. You are such a beautiful, special and generous person, and I hope everything works out for you, and that you get the justice that is owed to you. "I am covered in skin, no one gets to come in...Pull me out from inside"...I am ready, I am fine...
I really don't understand why Emile Hirsch didn't get an Oscar for his performance in this film. One of my favorite movies ever.
I know he was magnificent in this movie...
RIGHT?!
Yes, I don't understand too. It's really on of the best movie ever...
Yeah, I know I don’t understand why either except the Yasuke (Oscar) boards really need to count hard for these (those) votes! 🙏🏼🕊😊
Agreed
This movie inspired me for life. It is one of those movies which changes the way you see the world. I'm a changed person now.
Totally agree.. This movie changed me as person, totally revelation for me

Very glad to hear that
"I HAVE HAD A HAPPY LIFE AND THANK THE LORD. GOODBYE AND MAY GOD BLESS ALL!" Christopher McCandless
One of the best films ever made... Period. Take a bow Sean Penn.
Agreed
his journey is an ode to life... death is just a part of the cycle, living your life is the best thank you one can give to the gift of life. his journey was one of spiritual endeavour, his body carried him through it.
"Happiness is only real when shared." So true. Finally he realised it. But it was too late. We won't forget his last thoughts.
Me neither
I know how to love and how to be love, and I know in the most literal sense how to be happy. These were his last words.

Essa canção estende toda ansiedade de superar as dificuldades e não ficar preso a única cor que muitas vezes encontramos e vimos em nós mesmos!
This song is also (?) on the soundtrack to Cruel Intentions, and I find it's one of the best Counting Crows songs.
1:38 scene in this video is what i keep on watching everyday. and the background score in the movie of this vary scene make me forget the world.
Happiness...only real when is shared.
Not true

Great movie. The book takes a harsher viewpoint focusing on the disconnect between people and having to find the emotional content in nature.
Very beautiful. Loved the movie. Favorite song is Society by Eddie Vedder.
Me too
Always loved this fantastic song!!
Once you've spent some time alone with nature the two of you have become one it will change your life forever every man should try it at least once
you're not crazy. Humans aren't meant to live the way we live.

Reality is he had the balls to live the life most could ever dream of, "most men live lives of quite desperation"
This movie is one of those rare that are better than the books that inspired them.
