I appreciate the sensible approach to this topic by advocating common decency and basic respect without treating people like special snowflakes! I don't mean to rant, but in my experience, the outright forced introduction of women into the field of technology (e.g. by using scholarships and quotas to push them toward STEM subjects while often going as far as shaming those who prefer more traditional careers) over the last decade has led to the creation of toxic corporate and academic environments which do not tolerate constructive feedback and implicitly require people with top performance to carry the burden of their underperforming colleagues, and where complaints are discouraged by scolding the critics as not being team players. The increasing amount of tech conferences where valuable time is wasted by dull talks, the presentation of tools that ‘solve’ problems that didn't exist, or outright agitation for ‘social justice’, is a good indicator. Also the ‘code of conduct’ activism and pressure on the companies and even open source projects to accept a certain branding to fly the flag of mob-approved social inclusion or risk widespread criticism. Hopefully more people will be able to stick to your advice and both give and receive constructive feedback with having the objective of increasing performance in mind!
