- El Dorado County historian Guy "Red Corn" Nixon reveals the story of conflict over gold that took place at Weber Creek. The conflict involved the men of Bret Greenwood, the "Oregon Trappers", and bands of Hill Nisenan and Mountain Miwok. Produced by George Sabato and Samantha Ferrand for Sierra Community Access Television. Guy is the author of Slavery in the West: The Untold Story.
Great stuff, Guy. Would love to hear more about sites like this. We found a Chinese mining camp near Weber creek when we were kids.
Fascinating history sir thank you and I appreciate you reciting the native words and names.
It seems like, given the Oregon trappers background, they were far more restrained then the later militias of miners when they came upon Indian villages.
Thanks for sharing the history. Brings the area to life!
Great info!!!
Wow this is really great stuff...
Most people that move up here have no Idea how important this area was in American History.
My only brush with History at Weber Creek, was my father having a sluice box there back when gold was only $32 an ounce.
I would be curious if you have any tales of the "Goat Doctor", and his stash of Silver Dollars.
Is this Utah
I got a few silver dollars from the goat doctors place
SO DID CLINT DONAVON......
MAYBE BACK IN 1978 ..?
fascinating account of gold country history....thank you!
Where exactly is Weber Creek
It runs from Webber Damn, though Diamond spring's area, then under highway 50 right before the In and Out in Placerville CA, then winds it's way through Rescue CA and dumps into the south fork of the American river above Salmon falls Bridge, which is an area extremely difficult to access. I've tried. Most of Webber is on private property BTW. So be careful of that.
@@jaysonking2513 yes I know it thank you
@@jaysonking2513 correct....
Thank you for the history lesson. That was very interesting. I was not aware that these events happened in that area during the Gold Rush.
