Fascinating. I loved this video. So many details that I have never thought about!

Thank you for this video! I've got an IF25 myself that I plan to 3D print a diffuser and turn into a LT1 mini. This is useful information!

This a great diffusor design, but I am not sure if that very high but slim profile is ideal for the LT mini, because of that high center of gravity it would be very unstable when standing inside a tent or on a camping table.

I agree with you on the profile. I think the head design is good but maybe make it available with a shorter tube size?

I gotta say the explanation regarding the diffusers really intrigued me. I have recently ordered an LT1 off Aliexpress and its currently on the way. Ill be interested to see how it compares to my current lantern of choice which is the UCO Madrona Rechargeable which is to date the only consumer lantern that I would even consider recommending to anyone. Its got a beautiful warm tint and a simple dial to control on/off and brightness. It does however have its downfalls such as the plastic construction and lack of water resistance (although it does have a USB for powerbank functionality). It also has a alternative blue mode which makes no sense and I just wish it was red but you cant win them all. My biggest gripe which is important for my bedside table use (when I'm not camping) is the inability to charge while using which means if I find it flat then I have no lamp for the night. I am looking forward to comparing the LT1 to the Madrona but I do have to say that the Madrona is a bloody decent lantern if your on a budget.

In reply to my last comment, I got the LT1 and it has instantly replaced the UCO as my main light. My only complaint with the LT1 is that while running it on lower brightnesses the button aux light dims to a point where I find it hard to see the button even while the light is running. I still want to clarify that the UCO lantern is still great and Im going to be 3D printing a magnetic mount for the LT1 just like the UCO has. Apart from that one little aux led gripe, the LT1 is a great lantern! :)

Very good idea. Very smart. I have the IF25 and as amazing it is, making a lantern version is a good odea

just found the BLF LT1, seems to be a great project and product, need to get one soon - bought last year 2 lanterns and went nearly crazy realising the market still missing a featurerich lantern :-)
    - small version = awesome, comes in handy..
    - nowadays with LEDs and the high-flux provided you don't need to care about efficiency that much - the coleminers had a candle-lantern and maybe that mirror to get light in the area of view, having a very simple lantern with handle you still had something on top at that time, hard to avoid. Put light to the ceiling above you might also be a waste as not in view..good thing is that we are not limited anymore to 1cd :-)
    - if you go diffuse it makes sense to put all energy=light into your diffuser. White outside cap is okay when you got a bit of a distance to the light source or have something more diffuse as source, and you did with the inside-tube which is a very good design IMHO. Top-mirror puts all light back into your main-diffuser-tube, best you can do I think. Simple white paper might give more shading, brighter at top - not better I guess.
    - if someone want mirror and cone for side-reflection but with a diffuse gradient then you would roughen/frosting the surface in the top-area, best with a transition. But if you got metallised plastic you will probably more scratch the metallisation off..
    I will stay tuned!

      - high COG, falling: well, being in a camping-like-situation I would take a small Whiskey-glass, put a small stone at the bottom and put the Mini into it and some socks around to keep it straight up. Or use a paper box (or sth. different but changeable) with hole on bottom, then turned around, as stand.. with camping you always think modular and might use things you already have nearby :-)

I've never liked any top on it, especially the total obstruction, (black, mirror, whatever) because it wastes light in a room on the ceiling bouncing back down and diffusing throughout the room. Try changeable tops. White frosted plastic as an accessory for 10 extra. When hung at a ceiling it will increase overall room light by 20%...?

I love the idea of the really bright turbo. As the old saying goes, it's better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it. Even if it steps down quickly I'd still much rather have that option, with the understanding that if I want sustainable output, it should be kept on high or lower.
