      Every single ride, but nothing stops these motorised machines from eating through bicycle components like they’re off kids toys. I’m on my 3rd cassette and chain ring, 6th chain, and second free hub in 1500km’s. And I’m about to have my 3rd motor fitted 🤯

      @@DavidPeake1 wow, It's best to just keep a good eye on chain wear as you can run 2 or even 3 chains on a cassette if you catch it right. ( this is subjective and depends on how much you shift, ride and the conditions etc... but wow, you must be doing a lot of riding!

    • @DavidPeake1
      @DavidPeake1 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@embn sadly it averages about 250km per chain which is about a months worth of riding for me, and 500km’s per cassette (every other month). Conditions are dry, only ever done one mud ride. It’s frustrating, but I’m sure the component manufacturers will eventually get there with better eMTB specific parts.

    I generally spin the chain thru a rag after every ride. And sometimes use wd40 on the chain if it's really dirty. And sometimes I put car oil on the chain if nothing else is handy. But it gets dirty quick. I usually just use wd40
    On the chain because it's convient. But I will use any and all oils to lube a chain. Never had chain issues.

      I use purple extreme, bit more expensive but totally worth it imo since it has very high film strength. Also only needs to be applied about every 500 miles.

    I never listen to the recommendation with the quick link. I reuse it at least as many times as I clean the chain (4 or 5 times) in it's lifetime (6 months or 1000 miles). I have never snapped a chain at the quick link or have it come apart. I think that's just a money grab from the manufacturer. It seems to snap in just as firmly as a brand new one and is just as hard to take apart.

    What do you think about using candle wax and P.T.F.E. powder , I did this when I renewed my drive train 6 months back.
    Come back from a ride covered in mud and snow , hose off the drive train everything just falls off , quick wipe down and ready for the next ride .
    If I run my hands over the chain no black greasy marks just a waxy feeling.

    best way to avoid this disgusting mess on the drive train? don't lube with oil, paraffin wax with some PTFE or WS2 is the way to go. Rustproof, mudproof, wearproof :D and so clean you will never ever have black hands or legs again
    oh and once the chain is off the bike, you can use simple gasoline to clean the bike, way cheaper but also a bit of a hassle to get rid of the dirty gasoline. but by far the most powerful degreaser

      @Foxtrot Oscar just uncolored candle wax. PTFE works if the particle size is 1.6 micron or smaller, just got 0.1 micron tungsten disulfide in the mailbox today, I assume it works even better than PTFE (plus it is more eco-friendly). some say, 10:1 wax to powder is needed, I guess less powder (20:1) certainly does the job. check Oz Cycle's videos about that subject.
