Your grandfather really did think ahead! It's so great to see what Mt. Airy looked like back then. My husband and I moved to Mt. Airy from Germantown back in 1991. We lived in Twin Ridge for 9 years then in Doves Landing for 3. We live in Boston now, and words cannot convey how much I miss Mt. Airy. It was so delightful to see Kozy Korner, we spent many a Friday night there. We tried to figure out where the video began. It wasn't until we saw the Sarah Lee Motel that we knew, it was a sight you couldn't forget seeing, even back then. Made me miss Sunday brunch at the Four Seasons restaurant. Then when I heard your grandfather mention Dr. Miller, I got a little misty. He was my doctor and I loved him and his nurse so much. I hadn't realized that Jamesway and Ames were not built in 1987. So many changes, and so many more since we left in 2004. Thank you kindly for this glimpse into the past. The only drawback is now my heart aches with sadness for the decision to leave Maryland back then and it aches even more desperately from wishing I had a time machine that could take me back to the wonderful years we spent in that beautiful town.
This is GREATvideo.. My first experience with Mount Airy was when I lived in Columbia, and had a job to go remove some of the tech equipment from Ames when they closed it. I remember asking my boss "where's Mount Airy!?" and then in about 2004 I ended up moving here! Seeing all of this is really cool, and kind of sad at the same time. Thanks for sharing!!
Born in '79. Germantown. Have family in Mt. Airy. Theyve been there since the 1940/50s. My grandmother is from Kemptown, just down the road. She is a Moxley. Great video! My cousin now lives across from Twin Arch SC. Im up there every couple weeks. Cheers!
I've always appreciated the gentleman who took the time to capture our Mount Airy. I've also grown up and Mount Airy and my mother/father and family have many memories here. At 1:40 at the top of Ridgecrest/Ridgeville Blvd you can see my grandparents home beind the trees I would climb and where I spent many years as a child with my cousins. We've always loved this video to see how much are little town has grown. Nowadays I only live 12 minutes away but still close. ♡
I was born and grew up in this wonderful little town. It's changed so much! Megan, your grandpa is awesome for doing this! I remember when the town looked like this! Unreal!
Wow! I can remember those farms well. We moved to Woodbine in 1985, where there was basically nothing but a few stores. Thank you for sharing. I can show my kids what Mt Airy and the surrounding areas looked like back then.
Lol, I used to work at the Roy Rogers, and Christie's...I knew the girl it was named after. GIMME MY JIMMIE CONE! At 6:17 is the Staph's house, a furniture guy I knew.
My great grandmother lived a few miles up 27 since 1960's. A few months after this video, February 1988, I moved to the small town. It's a bittersweet memory to see this charming place change so quickly.
On behalf of my family and friends that have been living there since 1985,thank you so much,i was just discussing with a friend the other day on how I wish I had old pictures of mt airy and how "country" it actually used to be.
