    For a short while, about 3 years ago, Class 37 locos began running along the Rhymney Valley line, whilst Transport for Wales was upmarketing. Living very close to the line, it was a toss-up in the morning between the pleasure of hearing that lovely engine and that damn blackbird! Can't remember which started first!

    I enjoyed watching the reunification, from an Australian who has become an English railway enthusiast.

    Followed this page and fb group for a while, love seeing these old 37’s still kicking. How much would a brand new rebuild engine cost all in for one of these?? very curious

    A precarious position to be in when you have a couple ton dangling over a locomotive! Great capture there mate.

      I suspect the weight of the engine is significantly more than “a couple of tons”
      I have been unable to find the actual weight via internet searches

    I'm just amazed they didn't build lift rings right into the engine block.

    • @rkalle66
      @rkalle66 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You do not spend time planning and putting on eyelets on something that is lifted twice the lifetime. In the factory and the scrap yard.

    • @peterpool8723
      @peterpool8723 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The problem with built in rings is that they need to be safety assessed before every lift. With chains and slings they are the far easier items to check and inspect.

      @tornadojones7429 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not so, locomotive engines are regularly lifted in and out, indeed you can't separate the main generator off the engine block inside the loco, it needs to come out.. These do have lifting eyes as part of the 'feet' that the engine block sits on inside the shell...
