- In May 1984 Granada Television staged a £100,000 Pop Spectacular under the title of "New Brighton Rock" with leading groups taking part. It was attended by large crowds and screened on ITV on Saturday 23rd June 1984 at 10.30 pm.
video breaks a bit sorry but good to look back on the years of our childhood enjoy.

I was there all 3 days in the backstage area ( the old Riverside ballroom) Eddy Grant had a massive strop! Holly Johnson sat on a tressel table & it collapsed! had a chat with the tiny Nick Kershaw & Spandau Ballet. Frankie, Spandau, Madness, Nick Kershaw, Helen Terry (who?) good times!
I remember as a kid trying to watch this from my grandads flat in the cliff flats. Golden days mate.

This always gets me a little emotional as it is the only video I have of my late Sister, Jennifer Marie Yeo. She appears briefly at 05:35 shaking hands with Eddie. :)

Brilliant, I was there with my mate and his big sis and her mate when The Flying Pickets and Spandau Ballet and I think Eddie Grant were on. Who remembers that annoying woman betweeen acts singing the same song over and over?

I got sick of her so me and my mate started singing 10 green bottles, pretty soon everybody was singing it. I think she got the message after that. A good night out. Thanks for the vids. ;¬ D

I used to live on The Wirral and went to this concert. It wasnt broadcast live and was filmed about 6 weeks before it was shown on the TV. I remember it being really cold, music wasnt very loud and several performers had to do their songs a few times until a satisfactory "take" was achieved.

Like everyone else was there and remember the rotten old benches collapsing when kids jumped up and down on them during 'Two tribes' by Frankie goes to Hollywood - I was an Echo and the Bunnymen fan who thought I was too cool for the whole thing; strangely didn't stop me going! Think every teenager on the Wirral was there that week. Great times and thanks for uploading this.

oh my god i had just had my first baby,claire,and me and her dad went to the monday and wednesdayshow it was amazing ,when it was shown on the tv my mum taped it on BETA-MAX,(the poor mans video tape lol. i am always telling my 5 kids about this and finally they have seen it and dont think i made the whole thing up THANK YOU so much ,you,ve made an old woman very happy,xxxxx jude morrell

I seem to recall that Wirral council workers managed to get first dibs on a large chunk of the tickets for this.
Thats true i was a spark for WBC and had unlimited tickets to sell on
they did and thats how I got mine, my dad worked for them

I made three of the night. I think I only had tickets for the Monday. Jumped over the wall Tuesday. Couldn't get in Wednesday and through a shop door on the Thursday. My mate tried to jump the wall but fell off. He went over to a copper and said he's really hurt his leg. Copper told him it was his own fault and told him to go away. He went to hospital the next day and he'd broken his leg!!!

I was there Tues (with a ticket I queued for from Radio City) Wednesday and Thursday (with tickets I got from other kids) I've been trying off and on to find this footage for years so if anyone has the whole programme I'd love a copy.

Lol, I was just watching Two Tribes by Frankie Goes To Hollywood at around the @11:02 mark and the bass guitar player hasnt even got his guitar plugged in, there is literally an empty output jack showing on his guitar
i put the whole vid up sometime ago and was told to take it down by youtube for braking there rules
Ah, the Memories....I was about 18 then. Sadly we never managed to get into that gig as all the free tickets ran out so we just hung around outside listening to the bands! Does anybody remember that really annoying warm up girl who kept shouting out 'OGGY OGGY OGGY!!!" between the acts? She didn't have much of a repertoire did she? Who on earth hired her? She was awful! As the godlike Madness would have said "You're an Embarrassment!!"
