Love your videos. A good alternate to the first exercise is to place a hoolah hoop on the ground and try to land it in the hoop, instead of slinging at a verticle target. Makes you work more on poise than power.

That's an interesting approach and certainly worth implementing.

Wow, you just explained some things in a few min that took me over 15 years to figure out. Its encouraging because now i feel that im on the right track.

Took me about that long too. I learned most of these things recently by watching other throwing sports coaches and watching some really skilled slingers (e.g. Archaic Arms) and trying to figure out how they do it so well. It's such an obscure sport, we have to share as much as we can with each other!

Luckily didn't take me more than 6 months of overstraining my arm before I learned how to properly throw, I was in touch with experienced slingers quite a lot and managed to improve my technique massively in just a few months going from 80-140 meters to consistently throwing 180 - 200 meters and eliminating said straining. I also think there is a lot to learn from other sports, watching golf coaching helped me use more of my entire body a lot more, and i believe there is also a lot to learn from baseball too. It does take time to learn so will continue to see my progress over the next months

Excellent video! One point I would like to add. Not trying to over extend the elbow. I also throw very similar to this. I used to push so hard that my elbow would get tweaked. Great video as always.😊

Absolutely, and good point. Elbows are really easy to injure.
I'm just not sure of how to talk about it other than, "if it hurts, don't do it". I don't have enough knowledge in the area of injury prevention to speak intelligently about it. Plus, I think it might be pretty situation and person dependent, but again, I don't know enough yet.

Nice video! Do you get blisters on your finger like me? At the base of the middle finger and on the side of the index. Any tips on that? I guess just put some bandage tape or something….

I used to all the time. Somehow I don't anymore. It's unclear if it's just calluses or change in technique. But the fix for me was just to get some sports tape. It works wonders for preventing blisters.

Watch the breakdown and coaching of outfielders, shortstops, and third basemen in baseball. Their throwing mechanics translate well for slinging.

I think baseball throwing in general translates very well. Why those positions specifically? I never played so I don't really know the nuances.
