This has been so informative and helpful! I have not taught before and everyone keeps telling me to create routines and procedures to teach on the first day, and nobody was explaining what that meant. I'm excited for the year and you made this so much easier than what I thought it would be

I'm teaching preK getting babies ready for kindergarten and I'm totally struggling with management in classroom and the mixed classes I'm getting with 4 year olds up to late birthday 6 year olds. My biggest struggle is the most intelligent child who constantly argues with me, then the child who throws tantrums when they don't get their way. I'm a mess. Thank you I'm Lori Spring Texas Klein

Thank you so much! I would also add lunch time procedures are important to think through as well if you’re a school where you do lunch duty. At my school, we have no lunch break for the entire first week of school. It’s rough.
As a grade level every year each day (the first week) we practice lunch and recess procedures. These are just for my class. ((Hugs))

Hi Honey, I love your videos and always learn something new. Would Love to see a video on how to deal with kids that do not follow those expectations. I always have some kids that will not raise there hands, run around no matter how often i show them how to do it, explaining why it is Important.... maybe you have some more tipps

Hey I just watched your original video on procedures from 4 years ago and i was wondering how do yoh handle bathroom if multiple boys or girls need to go at the same time. I love the idea of the passes with only one boy or one girl but how should they determine who goes next so there isnt wrestling match for the pass lol.
Honestly, when they get use to this it just flows. If it's a true emergency I let them go along with the other two. For the most part they know how to wait. ((HUGS))

It just depends on your class. I spend about 5 minutes discussing and modeling it for them and 5 minutes them modeling. Some procedures are quicker than others. ((Hugs))
On the first day what are the kids doing while your greeting your kids at the door.
I have color sheets waiting for them at their seats and a welcome packet they can practice writing their ABC's, 123's, etc. ((HUGS))
Ms. May, (Pardon me. I've not read to see if another commenter has already asked.) Can you do a "back to school with Covid rules" version? I taught virtually all year and am super curious to know how I'll adapt my YEARS of management/movement/community strategies given any restrictions we may have when we return. Carpet time? Bookbag hooks? Hug/high five? Small groups? Turn to your partner? Help!!!🤯🥺🤔 Thanks in advance!
