  • This is a fantastic gravel cycling route from Cambridge to London. It's 93 KM (58 Miles) with just under a 1,000m of climbing in total, and makes a nice, if testing ride.
Cambridge station is easy to reach from London, with regular train departures from King's Cross, St. Pancras and Liverpool St. stations. The majority of the route is off-road, but there are stretches on minor roads through villages. It's perfect for riding with gravel bikes or mountain bikes. You can probably navigate it on a regular road bike with 30mm+ tyres if it has been dry.
The video highlights a few places you can stop for food or pick up extra provisions.
The ride ends at Gordon Hill station at the northern edge of London because beyond that point you're basically on roads back into central London.
Bikes can be carried free and without reservation on trains in and out of Cambridge with the exception of trains arriving Mon-Fri during peak morning or evening hours either going into London, or going into Cambridge. Check with the rail companies for details, but you should be absolutely fine on weekends and Bank Holidays.
The full route can be found here on Komoot: www.komoot.com/tour/795051519
I've written some more notes on the ride over on my blog: www.adambowie.com/blog/2023/0...

Here's a Strava link to the GPX file as well: www.strava.com/routes/3217406588147819044

Used the GPX file and rode this route yesterday. It is a fantastic route and very well planned out! Thanks for putting it together. There were a couple sections of Bridleway that were very overgrown this time of year and were not able to be ridden. I just walked the bike through those sections and they were relatively short so it wasn't a big deal.

Thanks for the kind words Mark! I'm glad that you enjoyed the route. I think the amount of rain we've had this year has really led to quite a lot of overgrown stretches of bridleway, but glad to hear that you could get through without too much problem.

Looks very interesting. Might try this.
One word of warning - the lovely track through Therfield can be tricky in the winter as trail bikes and 4x4s use it.
Rode it last night however, and it was fine.

Nice video but very hard to hear without being deafened when the incidental music comes in

Enjoyed that, will try the route in the spring. Do you have a GPX file so I could put it on a garmin?
