That pack with tutelage and your intention to wheel it was amazing and interesting. I believe the reason you didn't wheel it is that Ashiok you passed the pack before. It's too simple for whoever behind you decides to take ashiok to then also go in the next pack "hey, there is tutelage too, cool. i'll take that". But ultimately you had no choice, doomed if you take Thief, darned if you don't.
hindsights 20-20 discover is by far the more effective and powerful card but it seems someone was also hardlocking mill and was 1 pack ahead of you so what can you really do then? But also no ones saying how you couldve had the best uw blink deck in the draft so thats a plus :)
Ashiok is such a good card though. If they can't deal with it, that's 20 cards gone from their deck. A deck they can't tutor in anymore as long as it's on the board. And their graveyard is also gone. Wasn't surprised it was picked.
Also how are people making the most abusive decks in this cube? Graveyard recursion of powerful spells. I don't understand why ashiok is valued so low.

The only time I went 7 wins this cube was when I drafted a self-mill deck with Ashiok, Jace and a Thassa's Oracle to top it off! Its a very fun playstyle.

You’re sleeping on the folio. That card is insane if you drop it early. I’m not saying it’s the best mill card but It’s come in handy a few times for me.
Definitely won a few games with folio being the only card I cast. If the opponent doesn't have early pressure, the folio just solo's opponents. Still it is a pretty narrow set of games that you are able to do that in.
completely agree, making them draw a bunch end step then mill them on your turn can be insane. Sure you give them value, but can end the game real quick if you mill 7+ cards every other turn.
Is it missing fixing or just optimizing Thirst for Discovery? MonkaHmm That's what I told myself today when I could not get a single on color piece of fixing till mid pack 3, then pivoted from temur after a green start to splash-white Jeskai cuz I actually had some boros lands. So far undefeated yay! I respect whoever was eating all the lands in that draft, didn't see Field till pack 3.
Both the first picks are really good. You made the right choices in good blue black cards. Its a safer pick as if you don't see anymore mill cards their and discover are good by themselves.
I'd say the only thing you couldve considered in the second game was to focus on self mill more? You would've had 4 blue devotion. Just a thought. Love the content. Inspired me play more draft.
its going to be hard to force this kind of strategy. well yes is you pass all the best mill cards. mill is one of the best strategys in this cube. you had like 3 of the top 5 mill cards in the cube for like first 5 pick so if you skip most of them you not getting mill deck for your self
Could have won game 1 by Oracle. Don't chump with champion of wits to get the extra blue pip on board. Sac the treasure with map to draw a card to give 6 cards in hand and 9 in deck. Seagate draws 6 leaving 3 in deck. Oracle + champion is 3 devotion which wins exactly
Also I think on the game against gruul, you had folio out and were milling the opponent when you should have been milling yourself because you had some devotion to blue and thassa's oracle in hand. Probably could have went for that line instead of trying to mill the opponent under so much pressure.
The other problem with passing the tute over the discover is that you push someone else into it. So then that is the reason you don't see Patient or Jace. If i saw it 3rd or 4th, then i'd certainly splash tute in this format, Discover is less splashable even if it is a better card.
It's funny you passed a pack 1 pick 2 Ashiok and thought it would wheel. It's a great pack 1 pick 1 build around for easy wins. Ruin crab into removal, into Ashiok is 9 cards milled by turn 3. Plus ops opening hand your almost half way done. And Thief would have been way more likely to wheel in my experience. It's just a flying 2/2 in a format full of removal
You forgot about Sword of Body and Mind. Prolly the fastest mill card in the cube. BTW, great mill deck sucks you had to pass ashiok and tutelage that would have been probably the best mill cards in the deck. Maybe next time better cards won't be in the same pack.
And if you were wondering, they WOULD be the best cards because discover the formula and thief of sanity most likely would not have wheeled to replace either of them as the best card in the deck.
