    I see this totally going wild with 2 motors behind him out sideways mounted on a back sidearm.
    Also a front sidearm, both connected to long waterflow-streamy kajak stabilizers, fronts high enough to not break in the water!
    Loving this project again, like all you guys do! 🙂

    Great video. An important technical note on boat hull design. If a boat doesn't hydroplane, and I doubt a kayak will, it will be limited to its maximum velocity as determined by the Froude number. To cut to the chase, there comes a point where no matter how much more power you put into the boat, it won't go any faster.

    As others have said, a kayak has a displacement hull and has a fixed top speed no matter the power. A planing hull will be much, much faster (e.g. try the same set up on a large-size sailboard or small planing yacht)

    • @krazyeye5147
      @krazyeye5147 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes you can really see the huge bow (displacement) wave created in the camera side shot. This will be virtually impossible to overcome and thus a speed limit is created from the hull design itself.

    David is such a talented, mechanically minded artist. Now that you guys have proof of concept, a few tweaks to improve performance; sponsons need fiberglassed to lessen drag they're causing. And maybe visit the split intake idea. An actual rudder may be used by Wyle Coyote, Genius 😜

    A split intake, looking like the front of an L-39 would give safety for pilot and unobstructed air movement. I was cringing at the thought of the foam giving way and the prop chopping up Josh's shoulders -big sigh of relief when it held together. Please keep safe! 8:35 David mentions a safety screen, Josh replies, "we'll do that very last" way last, after video 🤣🤣🤣

    I would attach two of the thrusters (maybe a bit smaller) to the side arms left and right. So the body of the "driver" is not blocking the airflow and you should be able to stear with differential control. Okay, should have watched the video to the end before commenting - lol

    You need a much more stable kayak for this, like specifically a Hobie Kayak (Outback would be great). They are actually setup for "sponsons" or outriggers I believe as they call them. They have inflatable ones. They actually sail those kayaks, I have one with the sail and everything. The kayak would weigh a bit more, but it would be a lot more stable and maneuverable as they are even equipped with rudders.

  • @Rob-kj3ho

    Fantastic concept!!!
    A displacement hull is going to keep sapping more and more energy, the faster you try to go. Ideally you want to look a planing hull - like a surf kayak (like Mega or Watertech).
    Good luck!!

    • @communitycollegegenius9684
      @communitycollegegenius9684 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I looked for this comment because you are correct. The hull has an absolute speed limit beyond which more power will only make it sit deeper and NOT go faster. I have 2hp gas engine/fan on a pirogue and I get to max hull speed just past an idle. More power just makes a bigger wake.

    • @Rob-kj3ho
      @Rob-kj3ho ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@communitycollegegenius9684 Exactly!! That's why you need the flat hull of a surf kayak, which will eventually lift out of the water and start planing. These kayaks also have fins which will improve stability without having to use the paddle (and thereby add unwanted resistance).

    It was just as funny driving to the lake with the 'jet engine' "mounted" to the back of the vehicle I'll bet you got a lot of double takes from other drivers.
    I did think that the distance between the intake opening and the person's back was too narrow and was probably choking airflow a lot

    Use a skinny but flat Jon boat, lose the outriggers, add a rudder. I'd go with a water rudder, so you can still steer when moving but not under thrust. Oh yeah - I almost forgot - move the intake around the driver's body - either above or split to the sides.

    You might want counter rotating props, one with higher pitch, or static blades. Carve a ring for the prop tips into the duct housing so they don't have end gaps bypassing air and making eddies. Do the new torroidal props help in a duct? Why not blades like the turbofan high bypass engines?

    Put the "Jets" on bearings so they can rotate left and right and a cam to direct thrust upward to counteract tipping on the turn. When turning, the inside diameter jet should turn fewer degrees than the outer diameter jet. Trial and error on upward thrust angle and rotation differences may be in order, but i am guessing there is math that can be done. Just not by me. Jets facing the same way and differential thrust will turn the boat, just not as quick or precise. You could add that in to counter the need for rotational differences I suppose, reducing RPM of the inner diameter jet.
