    • @HiddenSpringFarm
      @HiddenSpringFarm  18 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      No need to cover it, that kind of rot takes years if not decades to occur. The logs sitting for a few months won’t do much. When I first got the mill I started milling logs that I had sitting for over 2 years and the only part getting slightly rotten is the bark.

      Short answer is you don’t get mud and dirt caked onto the logs when skidding, which dulls the blades and chains. Also there are no leaves or bugs to contend with plus doing this hard labour in the heat is no fun. It’s also safer cause you can actually see through the forest as the trees are falling since there are no leaves.

    I've never cut a tree down so I'm not saying you're doing it wrong, but other videos I have watched where they are felling trees, they cut the wedge and say not to cut past it like you did. I don't know why.

    • @HiddenSpringFarm
      @HiddenSpringFarm  18 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Not exactly sure what you mean but my back cut was fine…a few inches above the wedge cut until the tree starts to fall. I’m guessing you mean the undercut into the tree from the bottom of the wedge cut. I cut in about 5-6 inches cause the tree is very large, I don’t think it’s not allowed it’s just that usually it’s not necessary. Otherwise my bs k cut wound be very deep to get closer to the wedge. You want to have enough wood so when you do the back cut it makes a hinge so you’re directing the tree where to drop. With smaller trees it’s not needed. I’m only a diy’er though so don’t take my word for it
