I was 10.5 years old when this happened. A nation wept. Fifty seven years later it is seared in my collective memory as though it happened yesterday. A different time and place. In retrospect, it seems we no longer live in the same country we were born it.

I was one month shy of my 12th birthday when President Kennedy was assassinated. It seems as though our nation has never recovered from the assassinations of JFK, RFK and MLK, Jr. in the 1960’s. I feel that our country has been on a slow, but steady, decline since then.

Al this time later and I still remember it like it was today. The country has had 2 horrible events in my life that changed us. 11/22/63 & 9/11/01.

A Great Tragedy that Lives on,...."It's, a Disgrace," and so was the Secret Service, they are and were, Responsible!!

The Secret Service actually tried to warn against the possibility of a plot, but the CIA blocked the warnings as they set up the kill.

I agree, Sheila. We really need someone like President Kennedy today.

President Trump is Very close to what JFK was trying to achieve, he holds him near and dear to his Heart 💛 and is finishing a lot of what JFK started 🙋🕊️❤️

@@sheilac1845, I’m really getting sick of people like you who actually believe in Trump, despite ALL of the evidence against him. But, go ahead and drink the Kool Aid, if you want to. I lived through those times - and Trump IS NOT, IN ANYWAY, like President Kennedy.

I lived in those times as well and yes he's finishing what JFK started, I agree he's different but he's doing a fantastic job, I'm sorry you feel that way, you're the one drinking Kool Aid hate to say it but it's True
The left is full of hate and so unhappy, I can't understand why anyone would choose to live that way, I couldn't stand Obummer but didn't ruin my days because of it, why can't y'all throw away the glasses of hate you're looking through and view things from a different perspective, I'm not telling you any lies #WalkAway 🙋💐🕊️

@@sheilac1845, So, you’re saying that you are old enough to know better…. WOW! And you believe in a President who will not do anything on a National level to control this Pandemic, lies to us each and every day, is a racist, is a bully, will not commit to leaving office peacefully if he loses, has rushed through a new ultra conservative Supreme Court justice in case he needs to challenge the election, has “lost” the parents of over 500 children at the Mexican border, refuses to do anything about Putin putting bounties on the lives of American servicemen and servicewomen, glamorizes Dictators, etc. etc. etc. I really think that it’s time to demand that people take IQ tests before being allowed to vote. That is all I have to say.

Obviously a terrible tragedy, and the people of Seattle, one of my favorite cities, reacted in the dignified and thoughtful way I would expect of people In that great city. Remember, this is just over a year after the Seattle worlds fair of 1962.
As for the newspaper hawker, I know that was the big story But I would have thought he would have been more dignified than that. I’m sure he was selling newspapers briskly anyway, without yelling it out. I have a feeling I might have told him to shut up!
Anyway, nice post. I mean it’s nice that you posted it, but a very very sad event.

Whatever happened to people who knew they were going to be seen by others being able to comport themselves? These days it's Karen videos, trashing restaurants, acting foolishly, with some actually recording or boasting about their crimes.

Seattle Times was an afternoon paper in 1963. This was an "extra" edition where they print just a new front page to replace the original . You can see the paper at the end of the clip- they put EXTRA! at the top

I wish we could view the contemporaneous reactions of the American people to the assassinations of Abraham Lincoln, James Garfield, and William McKinley as we can with the JFK assassination and 9/11.
