There are several reasons why an avid fan of the entries (folk dance division) in Panaad Sa Negros. First and foremost are the costumes. At first sight, it is evident that the dance teacher(s) has/have the proper knowledge of what should be the appropriate costume. They don't skimp on the amount of fabric nor the embellishments without sacrificing taste and class. In short, the costumes are feasts for the eyes. Then there's the choreography. I could think of 2 words: flawless and seamless. The choreographer takes your eyes on a journey that if you blink, you would not know how the dancers ended up in a diagonal formation (for example). The transitions are like magical slide shows. In one click, a diagonal formation morphs into a circular formation. And of course, there's the gracefulness of the dancers. They execute the steps elegantly, softly yet effortlessly. That could only be credited to the passion and commitment of the dance trainers. I have seen several folk dance competitions in different regions of the Philippines but this one is hands down Head and Shoulders above the rest!!! I say this as an objective observer for I have no affinity to Negros or Western Visayas.
Thank you for continuing to preserve Philippine culture. To all of you, I doff my hat.
