You have brought a delightful treat to the morning here in Canada. Took a break from my chores to find this lovely video pop up! So funny to see Zephyrs "Eeyore" face lol. My heart went out to you for the worrisome struggles that you face...especially when you have to leave Alice Grace. The struggles and fragility of all forms of wildlife you capture so well,it fills the heart with gratitude and appreciation for the little things. All the best in everything you do. Much love and thank you.
Another awesome video! I'm a manly man and I like man type stuff, but I never get tired of watching your videos. You are a natural at making videos. I learn something every time I watch one. The beautiful canals and countryside, the wildlife, and the way you film it and put it all together is as good as it gets. You're knowledge, love for nature, and art work is amazing. Maybe draw a picture of Zephyr, she's a beautiful girl! I'll be waiting for the next video.
I feel so much more masculine now knowing I'm not the only manly man into man stuff that watches this channel. I usually watch manly stuff like Colin Furse, Harry's garage/farm, auto Alex, All the gear, Tyrells classic workshop, retro power, and loads of sport. But in all seriousness this is a relaxing channel to watch.
I felt so sad for the beautiful butterfly, who was et the end of life( so short). This week i also found a Mason Bee, who was dying and being attacked by ants. I moved it to a crack in a wall and made some sugar syrup, which i fed it. Then it crawled into the gap and dissapeared. The next day i went back and it came across the wall , buzzing quietly and doing a little circular dance, then it flew onto my hand, before dissapearing for ever, It touched me deeply, as do all wildlife when they struggle alone. I love your wild walks, poetry and paintings too. Just amazing.
Oh your bee story touched my heart, Tessa! That is such a wonderful thing that you did and the bee thanked your for it too. 🐝❤️ Thank you ☺️ Have a super week. Take care 🦋🌻
@@themindfulnarrowboat You did the same thing for your poor butterfly, its something we have inside us, that make us want to help, no matter how small or what it is. Thank you and have a good week. 🦋🐝❤
A really lovely video. Love the way you film and edit. The spot you filled with water is where we sat in the shade with Dexter to escape the heat. We love the River Weaver. Hope you are enjoying it too. Beautiful artwork xx
The River Weaver is stunning! I absolutely love it here. Dexter was such a magnificent dog wasn’t he? The fact that he lived to such a ripe old age means you must have so many wonderful and precious memories of him. Thank you for sharing that one with me. ❤️ Take care 🤗🌻🦋
Loving your videos. Thank you for bringing us along. One of my favorite bits is the flipping through of your beautifully illustrated nature journal. ❤ 🦋
Love watching your back to nature videos something which has been lost by people living in cities etc, have you ever broken done all your yearly costs excluding foods and worked out roughly a monthly cost living on the water thanks ❤
This was such an interesting video Vanessa. From learning about the sinking buildings due to the salt works, to the Grebes selectively abandoning part of their brood. The Forest Bug was amazing! I sooooooooo loved the way you sketched the water surrounding the Grebe, the blue pencil being so vibrant and the subtle ripples. Bless you Vanessa for this treat.
Hi Michael, I hope you are all well? I'm so pleased that you found the vlog interesting. Thank you so much for your lovely comment. Have a super weekend. Take care 🌻🦋
The Anderton boat lift visitor boat cruise is well worth an hour of anyone's time. Not only do you get to go up or down in the boat lift, you also get a thoroughly enjoyable and informative insight into the history of Northwich and the Weaver.
Loving this part of your journey as I spent 6 months living near Northwich a few years ago, and regularly walked alongside the Weaver and the Trent & Mersey canal. And, yes, I've done the tourist boat trip down the Anderton boat lift. I'm sure you'll enjoy it too. 🙂
dear Vanessa. Wishing you a good journey where ever you are roaming and that Alice Grace stays safe. Thanks again for a lovely vlog starting with Eyore Zephyr and ending with the valiant butterfly. Take care. W xxxx
Hello from Florida. I've been watching narrow boaters for 5 years now. Yours is the best. You see through the static, yet maneuver within it. I've never been to the UK but I know all the sewers of Manchester because of Martin Zero. (River Irwel) I've been on my 51 year old 32 ft sailboat for about 5 years now. I'm an ace diesel mechanic so you know. A bit Rough with Alice occasionally are we? I bet she has a long and rich history in the canals. (Bow thruster, cart wheels on the side) Your roller water jug is exclusive to the UK so I can't order one, I can make one tho. Your an amazing lady. Your the kind of woman God meant for us to have.
Nature is harsh when it comes to survival of the fittest. But what beautiful scenery greets you each morning. I hope all was well when you returned to Alice Grace and you were able to travel on through the repaired lock.
Lovely video as always Vanessa tinged with sadness that summer is at an end. It's certainly been a tough season for butterflies not seen many at all. Bless Zeph she looked so fed up with the rain! Looking forward to more videos of Nature in her glorious autumn beauty. Thanks very much x
The Butterfly Conservation have set up a petition to take to government to declare a national emergency for butterflies and moths following the sudden drop in numbers. I signed it the other day and I hope the government take it seriously. Thank you so much for watching. Take care 🦋🌻
I love the wet Zephyr Eeyore on the map as you plotted your course. Beautiful moth with the unfortunate broken wing. I've also been intrigued by the Plume moth with its horizontal wings. How does it fly? And the weather-beatened Speckle-wood moth is still beautiful. I recently bought an illustrated Butterflies & Moths book hoping to draw some and eventually create some fantastical imagery with them. 🦋 Have a wonderful weekend! Jenny
I have only seen a plume moth at rest so it would be wonderful to watch it fly! I hope you get round to creating your amazing butterfly and moth art. Thank you for your lovely comment, Jenny. Take care 🌻🦋
Look for the Beauty, and time will pass soon... That's so positive and wonderful. By the way, you look great in pony tails! The rain 🌧️ really was coming down hard in the beginning, but when the sun came through it all looked spectacular. The colours really stand out. Have a pleasant couple of days. So nice, so wonderful, so you.😊 Take care.
That's so kind of you. I wrote that poem for me this week as I have had a very difficult week going to my friend's funeral and I needed to remind myself to look for beautiful things. I find writing poetry really helps me like that. Thank you so much for your lovely comment. Have a super weekend. Take care 🌻🦋
@@themindfulnarrowboat I'm sorry, I didn't know about the funeral... I mean I knew she had passed on but ... And here I go and say... "have a great couple of days" So sorry. 😞

Lovely video as always. What a wonderful lifestyle you have, even with the little inconvenience of rubbish disposal. Your knowledge of all natures creatures big and small is amazing. Great work Vanessa 😊😊
Thank you for a glimpse into the day to day realities of the lifestyle. In my minds eye, It is easy for me to view your lifestyle through rose colored glasses, and a romanticized version of life on the waterways. After watching your travels on all the various iterations of waterways, I am still happily amazed at the water quality and their support of nature. After hundreds of years of heavy industries using them for every imaginable purpose, it’s obvious a large number of people have put a tremendous amount of work into getting them into their current state. Thank you, for another wonderful video!
Love this video. Very informative, great photography and editing. Like the inclusion of nature, art and poetry. Thank you for entertaining me today and making the world a better place.
All the beautiful scenery and plants and animals you film are wonderful to see, but there's nothing better than to see Zephry play and dance for her ball or a stick! What a great companion! I'm glad you include her in each video! Thanks for a chance to see how life is like on the canals!
I never knew until now that great crested grebe parents choose a favourite of their young, and the family separate and go their own way. I found that very interesting indeed. It was great to see that Anderton Boat Lift Bridge up close like that. Looking forward to when you go up that !! 🙂 I can'r wait 'til next Friday. Take care.
Isn't it interesting about the grebes? I'm not sure how the male decides which ones he takes and the female decides which ones she takes, but I bet there is a valid reason?Thank you so much for your comment. Have a super weekend. Take care 🌻🦋
Hi can I just say what a lovely video and just how much I enjoyed watching looks lovely were you are and the lift bridge look amazing you really should get the books published they are amazing can’t wait to see your next video keep safe 😊👍🏻
Three Jammy Dodgers! 😂❤. It's been a while since I last watched a video of yours Vanessa. What a treat it truly is! It turns out I'm autistic at the age of 59. Explains a lot! Xx
I absolutely love when you come across kindness from the people you meet on Alice Grace. Often it's the little things that matter though isn't it. I remember you were given a bag of night logs and some Zeph treats. It just makes your heart jump.
Stumbled across your videos and am hooked… as previous comments watching your videos is so soothing. The world we live in is lived at such a pace that there is no time to think or breathe. Watching your videos makes me feel at peace… Thankyou for sharing.
Another great voyage on Alice Grace. You made us feel sorry for the butterfly and I know that if you could have fixed it’s wing you would have and the poor orphaned grebes left behind as the family moves on you are such a kind person and really do make the world a better place. Have a great week and I hope Alice will be safe while you are away. Steve
It would be wonderful to be able to fix a butterfly's wings wouldn't it? Don't worry about the Grebes, Steve because the male adult and female adult separate and take their favourite chicks with them so no chicks are orphaned completely.Thank you for your lovely comment. Take care 🦋🌻
Only recently found your vlogs. I had a chat with a lady on a narrowboat yesterday about the life choices she had made and then looked for something comparable on the net . Having viewed some of your content it transpires there is a world out there, in fact , relatively close by, that makes this mad stressed , ambition chasing, must have world seem totally pointless. No one should pay for therapy , just a subscription to your vlogs . Subscribed.
I do look forward to your video on a Friday...just home from a lovely day trip to Southwold...had a paddle and an ice-cream...and watch your adventure to bring the day to an end.Thank you so much...take care.love to you all from Walter cat and me.xxx
That’s so thoughtful of you. It was my friend’s funeral this week and she had a beautiful send off organised by her incredible children. I have good days and bad days, but thank you for asking. Take care 🌻🦋
I woke early and caught up with your posts. There are worse things. A very old friend sent me your link some time ago. I must remember to buy him a drink. I have had more indifferent mornings. I will buy that annoyingly silly little girl who lives on the ground floor one of your books for Christmas because it will be a good thing to do and make her smile. We should do good things or traverse canals. Which ever happy incident comes first. With thanks, you make me smile. Travel well..
Hello Vanessa and Zephyr, the River Weaver looks beautiful in places and it is somewhere I have never cruised, as when I was in the area in 1974 the Anderton Lift was not operating and derelict and we were on a hire boat from Claymore Navigation at Preston Brook, and went up the Llangollen canal to its end and did the spectacular Pontcasilter aqueduct during a three week holiday. When we lived on and cruised our trad boat Galton in the early nineties, we only got as far as Northwich on the Shroppie. I think my Blaze and Zeph are of a similar age. Blaze is now seven years six months, and I note Zeph is a little more white around the muzzle than Blaze is. Hope all goes well during your time away. Stay safe and well both of you, love from Blaze and me xxx.
Another lovely film. The boat lift is amazing I’ve watched it from their cafe. What happens to the deserted grebe chicks, do they just fend for themselves ?? Poor things
If you are going to model yourself on anyone Zephyr couldn't do much better than Eyeore...Love the plaits! Thanks for another uplifting & interesting film Vanessa ❤
I feel really confused with the strangest weather too. What has actually happened. It is freezing indoors and was really nice today finally. Like your plaits. Very nice. All that hair.
I am so inspired by your videos which are throughly entertaining, beautifully shot with such rich content. I am now about to purchase a boat..hope to see you on the cut :-)
What a lovely way to use your talent and the emotions in poetry . If you are publishing your journal, as is , no editing needed. ….you are mostly alone by yourself, but you are not lonely… how sweet it is.
If it wasn’t for rainy days would we enjoy the sunny days as much (zephyrs like where is my rain gear nice lady) oh and more treats please ❤😊thxs needed a good gab n tea ❤😊good scritch for Zephyr
Exactly! Zephyr really doesn't like raincoats; her tail tucks between her legs when I put one on her. Thank you so much for your lovely comment. Have a super weekend. Take care 🌻🦋
I like it when you put out your biscuits because I keep thinking… go on…have one more and you often do…. Lol don’t blame you xx😂 Hope you had a safe trip wherever you had to go and that Alice Grace was a good girl whilst you were away and safe x😂

Hi Vanessa it’s only me - I’ve had another good week healthwise and I started doing physio every day now - the new pain medication seems to be working - I hope you’re okay and keeping well. I haven’t watched the Vlog/video yet. I missed the notification flashing up - I’ve taken your advice about the cameras in the bird boxes for the Robbins, it’s on my Christmas list to get one each for my mum dad and my brother ~ The weather has certainly taken a cold spell mind you we are in autumn now - my mum and dad always feed the birds and so does my brother all year round but especially over winter they get a lot extra - in the birdfeeders and also in little dishes on the floor for the wildlife - have a great weekend and look forward to seeing you next week - sending loads of love and loads of hugs as always ~ Xxx Xxx
What a wonderful message, Louise! I am delighted to hear that you have had a good week, health wise. Long may that continue. If you get your cameras, then they can go up by the bird feeders until nesting season and by the wildlife areas too.Thank you so much for your comment. Have a super weekend. Take care 🌻🦋
Wonderful vlog has always the poor butterfly s I rescued a tree bee with a drop of water n sugar it rested up over night gave more for its brekky and latter it went on its way tc now the oldies 🤗👍🤗👍
Though others have already said, I think your videos are so uplifting and relaxing, just a bit of joy in a sometimes difficult world! Sorry to ramble a bit 😊
That is really kind of you and not a ramble at all! I really appreciate the fact that you've taken the time to tell me that. Thank you so much! 😊 Have a super weekend. Take care 🌻🦋
I just LOVE your river life and how artfully you present it all. I really look forward to them and my little visit with you. I live upstate NY near the Erie Canal. Thank you! I hope my likes and comments help just a little bit. Im a birder! Love you catches! XO
Thank you for sharing more of your experiences, and knowledge of the natural world, as well as the narrowboat life. Nature is what it is - both beautiful and ruthless, in our eyes. Had no idea about the Grebes, that was sad, but not as sad as the 'broken' butterfly, which, despite your help could only end one way, I guess.....
Hi Trevor, the grebes are ok because they are either with the adult male or the adult female. I don't think I explained that clearly so I'm sorry about that. I wish that I could have helped the butterfly though but at least it had a nice shaded leaf to fall asleep on and pass away. That is a nice way to go I suppose?Thank you so much for your lovely comment. Have a super weekend. Take care 🌻🦋
@@themindfulnarrowboat Hi Vanessa, I should have Googled to find that out, sorry. Good to hear that the chicks don't get abandoned! It's hard for those of us that believe, or know, that everything has a purpose, and a right to live. I suspect most people wouldn't even have noticed the butterfly, let alone wanting to give a last kindness. Take care, and a big hug to Zephyr!
Hello again! This was both a beautiful and poignant episode. I felt touched, by the hard choices made by the adult grebes and by the struggles of that poor butterfly. Balanced by the joys of the wildlife around them. That boat lift is indeed impressive, can't wait to see you go up it. Thanks again, and best wishes! As always!
Love the pigtails! First time I have been able to watch your vlog for several weeks due to reception difficulties. Now in Tamworth and the reception is fine. The wildlife items in this vlog are excellent.Hope you have a good week.
Tamworth is lovely isn't it? Are the beautiful pigs still there by the canal? Thank you so much for your lovely comment. Have a super weekend. Take care 🌻🦋
Hi Jana, please don't worry about the grebes because the male adult is with the ones that the female adult hasn't chosen.Thank you so much for your comment. Have a super weekend. Take care 🌻🦋
@@themindfulnarrowboatwell you could have mentioned that in your narrative, I couldn't focus on the sinking town of wherever because my mind was back with the grebes and their terrible Sophie's choice.
Amazing video, Zephyr looked so fed up at the beginning Bless her, what a remarkable feat of engineering that lift bridge is, Such wonderful drawings too,...Thank You.
I don't understand why the sunken boats are not pulled out of the canals. Your video is wonderful as usual. I agree that you should draw Zephyr. Have a lovely weekend 😊
I think pulling the boats out might be too expensive? The concrete one’s probably help to slow down the bank erosion…hopefully. Thank you for your lovely comment, Christine. Take care 🌻🦋

I never knew until now that great crested grebe parents choose a favourite of their young, and the family separate and go their own way. I found that very interesting indeed.
It was great to see that Anderton Boat Lift Bridge up close like that. Looking forward to when you go up that !! 🙂
I can'r wait 'til next Friday. Take care.
Isn't it interesting about the grebes? I'm not sure how the male decides which ones he takes and the female decides which ones she takes, but I bet there is a valid reason?Thank you so much for your comment. Have a super weekend. Take care 🌻🦋
Nothing beats being outside with nature the weather can be a bind but as van dwellers like you we embrace all the elements throw at us stay safe🙏🙏
Definitely embrace the elements- that’s so true! Thank you for your lovely comment. Take care 🌻🦋
Hi can I just say what a lovely video and just how much I enjoyed watching looks lovely were you are and the lift bridge look amazing you really should get the books published they are amazing can’t wait to see your next video keep safe 😊👍🏻
I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it, Mark. Thank you for your lovely comment. Take care 🌻🦋
Three Jammy Dodgers! 😂❤.
It's been a while since I last watched a video of yours Vanessa. What a treat it truly is!
It turns out I'm autistic at the age of 59. Explains a lot! Xx
Hello- how are you? It’s lovely to have you back. Thank you so much for watching and commenting. Take care 🌻🦋
I absolutely love when you come across kindness from the people you meet on Alice Grace. Often it's the little things that matter though isn't it. I remember you were given a bag of night logs and some Zeph treats. It just makes your heart jump.
There are so many kind and wonderful people aren’t there? Thank you for your lovely comment. Take care 🌻🦋
Stumbled across your videos and am hooked… as previous comments watching your videos is so soothing. The world we live in is lived at such a pace that there is no time to think or breathe. Watching your videos makes me feel at peace… Thankyou for sharing.
I’m so pleased that you find peace in the videos, Helen. That is so lovely to know. Thank you so much 😊 Take care 🦋🌻
Subscribed.
What a kind comment, William. Thank you so much. It sounds like you are interested in the narrowboat life? Take care 🦋🌻
Thank you for another wonderful video Vanessa, take care❣️🇨🇦

That’s so thoughtful of you. It was my friend’s funeral this week and she had a beautiful send off organised by her incredible children. I have good days and bad days, but thank you for asking. Take care 🌻🦋

A rainy start…Makes you appreciate the nicer weather 👍🏻🌞😎

Great vlog Vanessa, have a great weekend and stay safe 🙏 .
And you have a great weekend too, Billy! Thank you for your lovely comment. Take care 🌻🦋
GO, GO , REINA de RIO y de Canal, have fun with your first mate. I see 3 cookies, a good start on your journey. Have fun.
Thank you so much for your lovely comment, Carl! Have a super weekend. Take care 🌻🦋
I am very grateful to your friend too! Thank you so much for your lovely comment. Take care 🌻🦋
I think Zephyr has gone grey because she lives with me! 🙈😂 She is 7 and 7 months. Thank you for your lovely comment. Take care 🌻🦋
Another lovely film. The boat lift is amazing I’ve watched it from their cafe. What happens to the deserted grebe chicks, do they just fend for themselves ?? Poor things
Thank you for your kind comment. One adult goes with each group, so it’s not as bad as it could be. Take care 🦋🌻
If you are going to model yourself on anyone Zephyr couldn't do much better than Eyeore...Love the plaits! Thanks for another uplifting & interesting film Vanessa ❤
Eyeore is adorable isn't he? 🤗Thank you so much for your comment. Have a super weekend. Take care 🌻🦋
@@themindfulnarrowboatgetting colder now!
Congratulations! I hope you find your perfect boat. Take care 🌻🦋
What a lovely way to use your talent and the emotions in poetry . If you are publishing your journal, as is , no editing needed.
….you are mostly alone by yourself, but you are not lonely… how sweet it is.
That is so kind of you, Peter! Thank you so much 😊 Take care 🦋🌻
Love love love your vlog, your art, your pooch, your life and you. Keep up the good work.

I went over the top with the biscuits this week didn't I? 🤭Thank you so much for your lovely comment. Have a super weekend. Take care 🌻🦋
You make tea look good. And your cookies are looking delicious too

Our animals really listen don't they?Thank you so much for your comment. Have a super weekend. Take care 🌻🦋
Hi Vanessa this is indeed a joy to follow you ,in all your adventures large and small a joy take care have a good week ❤❤❤

Im new to your channel and am binge watching your lovely vlog. Poor Zeph was over it, walking in the rain!
Welcome back to the channel, Sharon 🤗 Thank you for your lovely comment. Take care 🌻🦋
I just LOVE your river life and how artfully you present it all. I really look forward to them and my little visit with you. I live upstate NY near the Erie Canal. Thank you! I hope my likes and comments help just a little bit. Im a birder! Love you catches! XO
It really does make a difference! I appreciate your comments and thumbs up so much. Take care 🌻🦋
I'm really liking the variety on the river ! I hope you don't get a parking ticket 😆. Beautiful ending as usual.
No parking ticket luckily! 😅 Thank you for your lovely comment. Take care 🌻🦋
As always!
Thank you so much for your lovely comment, Chris. I am so pleased that you found it a poignant episode. Have a super weekend. Take care 🌻🦋

I've never seen a moth like that before. It looked like the Angel of the North! 😂
That’s so true! Thank you for your lovely comment. Take care 🌻🦋
Zephyr says "I don't wait for ready steady - I just GOES!" 😂
Exactly that! 😂🐾🐾🤗 Thank you for watching. Take care 🌻🦋
Oh my, the poor grebe mom having to choose! And the butterflies, nature can seem so cruel, but she has a method to what she does.
I wonder if she chooses one that maybe needs more assistance? I hope it's not the other way around!
Hi Jana, please don't worry about the grebes because the male adult is with the ones that the female adult hasn't chosen.Thank you so much for your comment. Have a super weekend. Take care 🌻🦋
@@themindfulnarrowboat thanks for telling me! Have a great weekend.
@@themindfulnarrowboatwell you could have mentioned that in your narrative, I couldn't focus on the sinking town of wherever because my mind was back with the grebes and their terrible Sophie's choice.
Thanks, you’re just amazing.. ✌🏻👊🏼
You are very kind 😊 Thank you for your lovely comment. Take care 🦋🌻
Another beautiful serene relaxing vlog, totally unexpected a mention for my no.1 hero/superstar ever… Gary Barlow
Gary Barlow is a legend isn’t he? Thank you so much for watching. Take care 🦋🌻
Amazing video, Zephyr looked so fed up at the beginning Bless her, what a remarkable feat of engineering that lift bridge is, Such wonderful drawings too,...Thank You.
Thank you so much for your comment, Ed. Have a super weekend. Take care 🌻🦋
Hi Vanessa, I just love the way you enjoy nature. It is so good to see someone getting so excited of butterflies birds etc etc it’s just so wonderful you are such a kind and wonderful person.
