  • In this episode of reviewing model railroad products, Lee Melton & Steven Hamilton take a close look at the latest release from Bachmann of an Amtrak Charger locomotive painted in the 50th anniversary paint scheme.
Our sample model features WOW Sound & DCC from TCS. Sounds are very accurate for this model, and the speaker produces plenty of volume.
Having to page through the decoder's menu to activate certain sounds or lights is not very convenient, and I haven't found a way to remap sounds and lights to individual function buttons yet.
The details are very accurate, right down to the placement of the radio antennas on the cab roof. The paint and lettering is sharp and smooth. The motor and driveline is quiet.
All in all, Bachmann did a great job with this model, and we look forward to what they come out with in the future!

I wonder if the VIA Rail version (locomotive No. 2200) will be similar to the Amtrak version that was reviewed in the video?

Just for a small clarification, this is an ALC-42, not an SC-44.

Interesting. They all look the same. What is the difference?

The ALC-42 is eventually replacing the P42 Genesis locomotives on long-distance trains. The ‘ALC’ stands for Amtrak Long-Distance Charger.

It has more power and it is post to replace the 90s p42 and possibly p32 Wich is mostly retired but it is still in use on some new jersey or new York route. And coaster ace and a Miami train set in Miami Florida can't think the name

      ALC-42 - Amtrak LongDistance Charger 4200Hp
      SC-44 Siemmens Charger 4400 Hp
BTW Bachmann reused the sounds from the SC-44 just with a different default horn.
But they are almost identical locomotives using the same engine so the sounds are accurate.
