Liam said he wanted to put together airplanes at a factory because that’s what his dad did. All of the boys were very working class. I think to an extent Liam thought that he had no prospects outside of singing, and so if that didn’t work out he would just stay in his hometown and work at the local factory. He really loved his dad.

I agree that they might have chosen a better song and it wasn’t their best. But I truly believe they were very packaged already. Lots of input on song choice, work with individual vocal coaching but also as a group w their song all week. I think most sings were chosen for them and they were strictly instructed on who sand with parts. They weren’t confident on who could carry the solo work and definitely downplayed Nial and felt Zayn was only capable of certain singing parts. It definitely carried over in the boys development of confidence and self esteem in later years. They even were told how each needed to dress! Could you imagine auditioning, being thrown together with 4 strangers and told to blend harmonies perfectly. It was definitely about “Boy Band” at the time and not showing their individual abilities. Louis was even flown from the uk to LA for an important meeting with Simon after a first show after XFactor and told he was to tone it down and that he was too “camp” for their image! He didn’t want to let the boys down and you could see a big change in his on stage personality and confidence. No longer just letting go and being happy fun Lou as he worried so much about sensoring himself.

11:3013:25 I have always found Louis super immature almost to the point of rude or such a try hard in these old videos so I have never understood how so many people have found him so endearing - maybe its because I'm a little older and didn't grow up with One Direction I have become a fan in recent years

This was actually kind of a brilliant song choice....especially if you consider the styling along with it. I think they could have yodeled it and they would have sailed through that week. 2010 is when Twilight Eclipse came out. It was HUGE!! That also kind of ties it in with Halloween. Vampires. Twilight characters were the most sought after costumes etc I think it was pretty savvy tbh. They were being marketed to teenage girls. I'm sure they heard the name of the song (even if they had never heard it before) and saw the vampire make up and immediately knew what they were going for. Just some food for thought.
