Im literally here as a genshin impact lore deep diver who feels like I need to inhale every inch of Honkai lore because *i need to know how everything is connected*
I highly recommend you do so, I only played the beta of genshin and then the full verision up until inazuma came out and even then I found an immeasurable amount of enjoyment in connecting the dots. Like, the world of genshin could literally have been *painted* into existence by one of the flame chasers from honkai.... (I won't spoil much but that theory really fits)

I've been playing for about a year, and together with a veteran friend we even made a server on discord and a youtube channel with videos subtitled in our language, Brazilian Portuguese. Is honkai friendly to veeery casual players? Like in genshin i miss so much story events it's sad.. how about honkai? It looks really good and I want to try but it's been out for years so I might be too late..
It's not too late to start Honkai. In fact, I would say that now is a better time than any. They give a lot of rewards and free stuff for new players to help them catch up. Also, the game and story are already pretty flashed-out so you won't have to wait for it "to get to the good part" as you do with other games that are early in their life cycle. The updates are also getting better and better, and with Honkai Star Rail releasing in the future I imagine the game will only get better with the influx of new players. As far as I'm concerned, HI3 is here to stay for a long time. Regarding the game being casual friendly, that really depends on your playstyle and what you want from it. I would say yes, it can be a nice casual experience if you want to experience it that way, and it can also offer you a challenge if you want to be more hardcore. They also started rerunning the major past events so that new players can also experience them. The biggest "wall" you have to get over is the initial learning curve until you figure out the clustered and complicated menus and how the game works. It's not that hard but requires a little bit of time to get used to. After that is smooth sailing.
Adult Bronya is in APHO2, indeed. But she is not the same as the one from Star Rail. The adult Bronya from APHO is the same Bronya from HI3's main story, while the Bronya from Star Rail is from a separate universe.

Well, I don't think so. At the end of the day, they are different people that live in different worlds with their own separate lives and backgrounds. Their relationship in one universe has nothing to do with their relationship in another. At least that is my own opinion.
@@HomuLabs This example actually would be like a rare occurrence, imagine... at an unknown moment Bronya and Selle from Honkai Star Rail end up in the APHO universe, then they end up finding Bronya and Selle from APHO having a relationship from a nice way. Both Bronyas and Selles come face to face with each other and end up talking to each other. In this, after the conversation, Bronya and Selle from Honkai Star Rail realize the big difference between them and the two from APHO, realizing that APHO's get along well with each other and they, Star Rail's, are the opposite , which would make Bronya and Selle think better of them.
TL;DR, The Honkai are the Reapers and Commander She....I mean, The Captain, a multi-universal traveller, is trying to stop it by aiding the Valks as their Magic school bus driver.
Lets be honest here: Playing Honkai Impact before Star Rail explains only a few things, but brings in so much additional trauma and sadness. I'm speaking from experience here.
Very nice summary! As a HI3 veteran, I can see that you have summed up the most important details in a relatively short video, which can give new players a very good overview. I hope this video as well as your channel get a lot of views.
i bet star rail will have history flashbacks to understand HI3's connections but i'm pretty sure it will be a story of its own that even without playing HI3, you will still understand the story..besides, the only connecting factor of the two are the honkais since pretty much all characters are new...
So for anyone that inerested in palying Star Rail and never play Honkai Impact, just see it like you're playing Skyrim without never playing Oblivion, Morrowind, Daggerfall. Yes it can still be enjoyable and you just miss some of the connected lore like for example why there's no Daedric prince of Order in Skyrim

Now you mentioned Alien Space and the possibility of Welt saving this Himeko because of their past, it makes more sense it is, because Himeko in HSR says "We were travelling in the Star Rail me, Welt... And a other person" refering to Void Archives I still need to know what happened in GGZ
I don't think I'll be able to play this without Kiana who has by now became the main appeal for me in Honkai, to see her journey to the end and bear witness to her extraordinary growth, seeing her fight for all that is beautiful in the world is not something that's easily replaced.
I have the same thoughts about not playing this game before because I'm not really playing turn-based game except Pokemon because it is my childhood game. But it turned out to be I'm wrong, I am also a Honkai player so its characters made me feel close to them. The reason why I was playing this game because its lore and ngl... I want to see Honkai Impact 3rd's characters in this game too even tho their personalities are different. That's all, only imo sorry for long comment lmao
i'm coming from hsr before knowing hi3 and genshin, and i agree that you don't need to know much about hi3, except if you are going deep into the imaginary tree theory, welt and himeko's lore. i love your videos; keep it going!
Me as lv88 chaptain who already play the game for almost 900 days, fell ashamed and shock of 2:10 i play the game still dont know much about that story, and shock about how deep the honkai history was, especially on tree of imagination and sea of quanta. man i will never skip the story and conversation on game again
It’s still puzzling for me that there are both Bronya and Silver Wolf in Star Rail. Cause Silver Wolf was an alternative version of Bronya from the other universe or smth in Honkai Impact. Is it, as Welt, the same char as in HI3rd?.. Did she come to the Star Rail universe with Kafka (if she, in her turn, is from a different world)? Maybe it reveals later in the story I’m yet to reveal, but it just bothers me at the moment)

Out of genuine curiosity, as a new capitan, is the hi3 storyline finished, or is it yet to progress more and more, constantly developed in it's own way? From what I understood hi3 and hsr don't happen in the same universe, right? Does that mean that the hi3 universe will just continue on it's own while the hsr does it's own thing? I'd like to play hsr for the storyline,, since im curious and mihoyos lore writing skills never disappoint but I'd mostly play it incase it's a sequel for hi3 lore -- I enjoyed your video though, this multiverse thing had me confused for the longest time while trying to figure out the gi lore, since at first i thought that SOMEHOW, SOMEWAY, genshin would happen first and then the honkai shebang started to happen, etc , etc because i thought sirin is just a goddess that somehow got temporarily defeated by the twin and then got reincarnated by kiana (before i was a hi3 player), but then i saw other theories which sort of made more sense and sirin realistically had no connection to celestia or Khaenri'ah in the hi3 universe so i was just bamboozled....so it's really nice hearing it from somebody who's got more experience of the honkaiverse and such! thank you!!
Hi3 story is still going on and mihoyo has stated that it will be completed in 2-3 yrs and yes both are not connected in any way (for now), if you are going to play hsr read the alien space manga as it is like a prequel for the game.
The main story for Honkai Impact 3rd is still on-going. From what miHoYo said, the story on earth will last for about two more years. After that, nobody know what will happen. They could start a new storyline as DLC, like they did with GGZ, or focus on events and other stories like Elysian Realm and APHO. Honkai: Star Rail takes place in one of the many parallel universes within the Imaginary Tree. The two games don't share anything more in common as far as we know it, beside the character of Welt - who is the same one from HI3, and the fact that they probably are governed by the same cosmic laws within the multiverse.
I am in the process of learning more about the Captainvers myself. After I feel like I accumulated enough knowledge to make it justice, I will make a video on it for sure. :D
Personally speaking, calling HSR a spin off is weird, cuz it is a sequel to APHO, which is also a sequel to HI3 main story. For me a spin off is something like what HI3 is to GGZ. It takes the same characters but gives them a different overall plot.
It's a spin off because is a different story that "spins off" a previous established one. I wanted to separate APHO from the main story of HI3 because HSR is more connected to it than the actual main story plus, even though recommended, APHO does not require the main story to be understood, so for the many new players that for whatever reason don't want to play HI3, they can just watch a playthrough of APHO and they will be fine. Theoretically, if you ask me, HSR would be a spin off in relation to APHO as well, but I chose the term sequel in the video for more clarity. A sequel would theoretically continue the story of APHO, but HSR doesn't do that. Instead, it "spins off" APHOs initial setting and makes it's own story in the same multiverse with some familiar characters. A true sequel would continue the actual story, but as we seen from the BETA of HSR, that is not the case at all. Also, HI3 is definitely not a spin off to GGZ. HI3 is a retelling, or reimagining of GGZ. That's what taking an already established cast of characters and giving them a new plot is called.
@@HomuLabs Using the same example you used in this video, it's like you are saying that Fate/stay night is a spin off of Fate/Zero when in fact it's a sequel.
But Fate/Stay Night is directly continuing the events of Fate/Zero while keeping the same setting, thematics and it still revolves around the Holy Gray War. It directly continues plot points left unfinished in Fate/Zero such as the fate of Sakura and Rin, and continues the story arcs for characters like Saber and Gil. That's a direct sequel in the same way APHO is for HI3. That is want sequels do, they directly take characters, thematics or narrative plot points and continue their stories, while a spin off takes an already established story and derives from it into shaping it's own. It has way less things in common with the original story it spin's off from, beside sharing some secondary characters and the same world/universe/multiverse. Honkai: Star Rail is about the Astral Express traveling though the universe and interacting with different civilizations while following the route took by Akivili The Trailblazer and reconnecting the Star Rail. It's clear from the BETA that HSR is it's own thing, that is not directly tied with HI3 besides the character of Welt and sharing the same multiverse. To use the Fate franchise, if HI3 is Fate/Zero, and APHO is Fate/Stay Night, I would say that H:SR is Fate/Apocrypha. So you can't call it a sequel IMO. If you still think that it is, that's fine by me. I just stated my opinions and how I see things, and I hope we can agree that we see the matter in hand very differently.
@@HomuLabs I'll just give my last thoughts so that you'll know mine with Fate as a reference again. The way I understand a spinoff is that it takes some established plot points from the original story and spins it around in its own unique way like how Fate/kaleid Prisma Illya is to Fate/stay night. A good example would be the Captainverse story. I consider HSR a sequel since it has been teased upon and foreshadowed with APHO, Alien Space manga, and recently Chapter 25ex with the confirmation of the events of Alien Space having occurred. It's a continuation of that story plot and therefore for me a sequel. P.S. Don't worry, at this point I'm just stating my opinions like you did. I understand that we have our own interpretations of what a spinoff is.
I'm a betatester for Honkai Starrail and due to the fact that we're allowed to stream it i obviously stream it on twitch and here are a few footnotes. 1. i just saw that video was released more than half a year ago but i already started writing so, i won't stop now. 2. I am more of a action based game fan like Metroidvanias, jump'n run, souls like, etc. But the combat system of the game is incredebly interesting and fun made. it's incredibly dynamic and you can always at any time interupt your enemy if you have an ultimate lodaed. therefore the fighting system is not just your average stale Hit trades like i'm used to in roundbased combat but really variable, engaging and fun. 3. The Main character is supposedly a blank slate first but she/he got their own personality and more voiceovers so far wich i love a lot. i am currently at the part of the game were we help Seele with the help of bronya and didn't even know she existed in the other games shich also shows that, you neither need nor have to play honkai impact and have to endure it's horrible menu system to play or appreciat star rails story, combat system or characters
I maybe wanted to download honkai but it doesn't exist in my phone so I just have genshin impact but overall I did see some honkai vids, there interesting story's and characters with the gameplay that's pretty good so I'm just waiting what honkai starrail is gonna be like when it's finished :)
since Star Rail is officilly coming out on April 20th I wanted to ask a question as a honkai and genshin player I see that himeko is in star rail but how is that possible bc in chapter 25 of honkai himeko died fighting and star rail is based in the future so?
It's not the same Himeko. The HSR Himeko is a version of Himeko from another world. In each world of the Honkaiverse, there are alternate versions of some of the characters from other games. Just like Raiden Ei in Genshin is another version of Raiden Mei from Honkai Impact 3rd, or how the Sustainer of Heavenly Principle is Kiana's counterpart in Genshin Impact.
Bronya and Seele are different people from their HI3 versions. Welt is the same. You can read the Alien Space manga, where they set up Welt and Void Archives travelling to another world to save HSR Himeko from the Sky People.

There is also not a single confirmation that SR is truly continuation of Honkai games or Honkai 4th. For all we know it is a Honkai game that is on another dimension with Welt from main world. Not a proper continuation of main game as it is in another universe.
3:04 i don't know if this is a dumb question but, if the honkai attacks civilizations to test them, does this mean that also genshin impact's world has been attacked / will be attacked?
There are many speculations as to why we don't see honkai in Teyvat. One would be that it's not advanced enough for Honkai to be active. But that is already debunked since we know the Honkai was active in the CE while it was at a similar level of technological advancement with Teyvat. Albeit, Honkai was pretty weak then compared to now, it still existed. Other speculations would be that Honkai is already active and we don't know. Honkai is energy that can take many forms. How we see Honkai manifesting in the world of HI3 is not necessarily how it would manifest in another world. And don't get me started with the theory that Teyvat is in fact a bubble universe in the Sea of Quanta that is hold in place by an Ether Anchor, so the presence of Honkai is not as likely to happen as it would with a normal universe connected with the Imaginary Tree. So yeah, if you want my answer, we don't know yet.
@@HomuLabs Considering Scaramucci's words that the sky is not real and that the word "Teyvat" is translated as "Ark", I dare to suggest that Teyvat is the bubble universe that sustains its existence in one of the ways mentioned by SUGAR.
@@alexpav845 or the false sky is sort of like a force field created by celestia as a way of saying “fuck you” to the honkai and imaginary tree’s universal rules and trying to prevent it from getting in. That’s a theory I’ve seen a few times. (How strong it is or how long it’ll last is a different conversation entirely)
Well done, I'm rooting for you as a new Honkai Content Creator! So wanted to wait till I got through your video to say this. Honkai:Star Rail might actually be a direct sequel since Post Honkai Odyssey is looking more and more like it continues after HI3's story wraps up. But that said despite me believing that APHO is cannon to the main story given how everything is currently lining up. It's still a little hard to confirm either way, as since HI3's main story is still going we don't currently have a solid confirmation.

MHY confirmed that they wanted to tell the story of HI3 in a unique way by presenting us with the past (Elysian Realm), present (main story), and future (APHO) at the same time. But for the moment, until we have more of a direct bridge between the two, I preferred to keep them separated because you don't really need to play the main story to understand APHO. There may be people that want to learn more about H: SR but don't have the time to play through the whole main story. In this case, APHO, being shorter, can help a lot with some initial context clues for those who are interested. I'm sure that things will become more clear as we will progress with the story.

I wouldn't call HSR a direct sequel to HI3 even if it's canonical; because of the different gameplay. miHoYo obviously wouldn't just give up the (fast paced) action RPG aspect. HI3 will be distributed along side with HSR, just like GGZ and GI. When player's demand (on fast paced action RPG) as well as technology changed too much, miHoYo may release a true direct sequel to HI3. Looking at the other game - franchises, a game with different core gameplay is called spinoff regardless of being canonical.
Honkai universe is different to fate because fate it more of look a like characters more than different version of characters come from different universe Honkai is more like marvel or DC to be exactly alike Overall good video
tbh fate and honkai series do be like similiar. but the diffrient from each of it is in the execution of their alternated universe, where in Honkai verse they simplified it with bubble universe, where in fate its literally Alternated universe which is somehow the character lore connected with each of the character and yet it has complete saperated universe.
Indeed, they are not quite the same. Like you said. But keep in mind that many new players that never played Honkai may be interested in H: SR, so giving them an example that is somewhat similar yet maybe more familiar, may help people understand things easier.

The “world tree” in fate is just Akasha, and servants are shadows of a hero in the throne, rather than the hero themselves. Saber and Saber alter are aspects of the Artoria Pendragon that used Excalibur while the lancer versions are based of the Lion King/Goddess of Rhogomyniad/King of the Storm version of Artoria. So there are Separated sides of the same character, parallel versions of characters, clones of the characters( MHX, MHXA) or characters that become other characters (psuedo servants and Gray). So in conclusion it’s pretty similar to Honkai imo.

Well short answer is: YES But do remember it will give better knowledge and understanding of the Bubble universe and the Imaginary tree that shape the whole Mihoyo verse lore by playing the previous game, but on it own the game will be have saperated story like GGZ, HI3, Genshin, and HSR despite being in the same scoop in the imaginary tree branch but just diffrient bubble universe
As much as I tried to enjoy honkai. Ive given the game 3 tries now. 1 was when it was first out....Not much to say there, quit early. Next was pc release till 90% of cutsecenes never played and were skipped each time i tried. 3rd was my last shot but i was spoiled on streams that had no corelation to honkai and also its story at this point seemed all over the place and convuluted. Not to mention the returner rewards making you do story that is further then you are and doing story things before getting there IN THE STORY.
I'm glad I found this channel I'm actually an old Honkai player but it's been so long since I first played Honkai Impact that I just lost track of the lore and don't have the same time to read all the dialogue as before

I do have a question: Who are the characters from Honkai Star Rail that have a counter part in Honkai Impact? I know Seele, Himeko, and Bronya have counterparts in Star Rail. Bronya even has 2 counterparts there. I think Raven also has a counter part in Star Rail as well. But who else have counter parts? Mei? Eden? Kiana…?
Only the Global and SEA servers are gone. Unfortunately, they were quite a localization mess with poor translations, or outright missing ones. This, combined with the fact that they had a very low playerbase, brought forth the closing of these server. The CN and JP servers are still up. In fact they are doing better than ever and there are no plans of closing them anytime soon. The game is still being updated there. Just now GGZ got a Honkai collab where they get Herrscher of Sentience as a playable character.
I REALLY hope I can play this game as my first honkai game. I VASTLY prefer the turn based combat in this game than the RTA gameplay of honkai impact 3rd. I really don’t want to have to play that game. Does anyone know if I could get by just watching those “all honkai impact 3rd cutscenes” videos on TH-cam?
What I recommend the most if you want to experience the story of the game but don't want to play it, is to watch a playthrough on TH-cam. There are people like Unreal Dreamer, aliciaxlife, meehl, or IslandxD that played through the majority of the game. You can check them out. Maybe one of them is to your liking and you can experience the story with them. IMO, watching only the cutscene won't really be enough to fully understand the game.

Obviously, with all the HI3 characters having completely different backstories and personalities in HSR, I do believe that HSR will be a lot more impactful if I play HI3 first and connect with its characters, but I simply haven't really had the time to get into it as an incredibly busy HS sudent >_> I will try to read the manga at least, but considering how the release date for HSR is still TBA, I think I'll have enough time to check out APHO and maybe even HI3, but the latter is probably copium IDK Once again, thank you very much for this very concise and informative video! It's a bit different from the Nasuverse. But I made the analogy to help people get a basic idea of how the multiverse functions because they share some similar concepts.

It's not too late to start Honkai. In fact, I would say that now is a better time than any. They give a lot of rewards and free stuff for new players to help them catch up. Also, the game and story are already pretty flashed-out so you won't have to wait for it "to get to the good part" as you do with other games that are early in their life cycle. The updates are also getting better and better, and with Honkai Star Rail releasing in the future I imagine the game will only get better with the influx of new players. As far as I'm concerned, HI3 is here to stay for a long time. Regarding the game being casual friendly, that really depends on your playstyle and what you want from it. I would say yes, it can be a nice casual experience if you want to experience it that way, and it can also offer you a challenge if you want to be more hardcore. They also started rerunning the major past events so that new players can also experience them. The biggest "wall" you have to get over is the initial learning curve until you figure out the clustered and complicated menus and how the game works. It's not that hard but requires a little bit of time to get used to. After that is smooth sailing.
If you're Casual players and only play for the story yes you can. Except for Elysian Realm even the Veterans has a hard time in there.

Adult Bronya is in APHO2, indeed. But she is not the same as the one from Star Rail. The adult Bronya from APHO is the same Bronya from HI3's main story, while the Bronya from Star Rail is from a separate universe.

Well, I don't think so. At the end of the day, they are different people that live in different worlds with their own separate lives and backgrounds. Their relationship in one universe has nothing to do with their relationship in another. At least that is my own opinion.
@@HomuLabs This example actually would be like a rare occurrence, imagine... at an unknown moment Bronya and Selle from Honkai Star Rail end up in the APHO universe, then they end up finding Bronya and Selle from APHO having a relationship from a nice way. Both Bronyas and Selles come face to face with each other and end up talking to each other. In this, after the conversation, Bronya and Selle from Honkai Star Rail realize the big difference between them and the two from APHO, realizing that APHO's get along well with each other and they, Star Rail's, are the opposite , which would make Bronya and Selle think better of them.
TL;DR, The Honkai are the Reapers and Commander She....I mean, The Captain, a multi-universal traveller, is trying to stop it by aiding the Valks as their Magic school bus driver.

i bet star rail will have history flashbacks to understand HI3's connections but i'm pretty sure it will be a story of its own that even without playing HI3, you will still understand the story..besides, the only connecting factor of the two are the honkais since pretty much all characters are new...
Welt is actually the same one from HI3... Also each of the characters that share a name HI3's characters are just essentially just dopplegangers
So for anyone that inerested in palying Star Rail and never play Honkai Impact, just see it like you're playing Skyrim without never playing Oblivion, Morrowind, Daggerfall. Yes it can still be enjoyable and you just miss some of the connected lore like for example why there's no Daedric prince of Order in Skyrim

Now you mentioned Alien Space and the possibility of Welt saving this Himeko because of their past, it makes more sense it is, because Himeko in HSR says "We were travelling in the Star Rail me, Welt... And a other person" refering to Void Archives

I have the same thoughts about not playing this game before because I'm not really playing turn-based game except Pokemon because it is my childhood game. But it turned out to be I'm wrong, I am also a Honkai player so its characters made me feel close to them. The reason why I was playing this game because its lore and ngl... I want to see Honkai Impact 3rd's characters in this game too even tho their personalities are different. That's all, only imo sorry for long comment lmao

It’s still puzzling for me that there are both Bronya and Silver Wolf in Star Rail. Cause Silver Wolf was an alternative version of Bronya from the other universe or smth in Honkai Impact. Is it, as Welt, the same char as in HI3rd?.. Did she come to the Star Rail universe with Kafka (if she, in her turn, is from a different world)? Maybe it reveals later in the story I’m yet to reveal, but it just bothers me at the moment)
Silver Wolf and Bronie (The Hacker Bronya from HI3) are not the same person. Welt is the only one for now.

Out of genuine curiosity, as a new capitan, is the hi3 storyline finished, or is it yet to progress more and more, constantly developed in it's own way? From what I understood hi3 and hsr don't happen in the same universe, right? Does that mean that the hi3 universe will just continue on it's own while the hsr does it's own thing? I'd like to play hsr for the storyline,, since im curious and mihoyos lore writing skills never disappoint but I'd mostly play it incase it's a sequel for hi3 lore -- I enjoyed your video though, this multiverse thing had me confused for the longest time while trying to figure out the gi lore, since at first i thought that SOMEHOW, SOMEWAY, genshin would happen first and then the honkai shebang started to happen, etc , etc because i thought sirin is just a goddess that somehow got temporarily defeated by the twin and then got reincarnated by kiana (before i was a hi3 player), but then i saw other theories which sort of made more sense and sirin realistically had no connection to celestia or Khaenri'ah
in the hi3 universe so i was just bamboozled....so it's really nice hearing it from somebody who's got more experience of the honkaiverse and such! thank you!!
Hi3 story is still going on and mihoyo has stated that it will be completed in 2-3 yrs and yes both are not connected in any way (for now), if you are going to play hsr read the alien space manga as it is like a prequel for the game.
The main story for Honkai Impact 3rd is still on-going. From what miHoYo said, the story on earth will last for about two more years. After that, nobody know what will happen. They could start a new storyline as DLC, like they did with GGZ, or focus on events and other stories like Elysian Realm and APHO. Honkai: Star Rail takes place in one of the many parallel universes within the Imaginary Tree. The two games don't share anything more in common as far as we know it, beside the character of Welt - who is the same one from HI3, and the fact that they probably are governed by the same cosmic laws within the multiverse.
Although I quit Honkai Impact 3rd, I'm currently checking out story playthroughs because I've heard it's great.

Personally speaking, calling HSR a spin off is weird, cuz it is a sequel to APHO, which is also a sequel to HI3 main story.
For me a spin off is something like what HI3 is to GGZ. It takes the same characters but gives them a different overall plot.
It's a spin off because is a different story that "spins off" a previous established one. I wanted to separate APHO from the main story of HI3 because HSR is more connected to it than the actual main story plus, even though recommended, APHO does not require the main story to be understood, so for the many new players that for whatever reason don't want to play HI3, they can just watch a playthrough of APHO and they will be fine. Theoretically, if you ask me, HSR would be a spin off in relation to APHO as well, but I chose the term sequel in the video for more clarity. A sequel would theoretically continue the story of APHO, but HSR doesn't do that. Instead, it "spins off" APHOs initial setting and makes it's own story in the same multiverse with some familiar characters. A true sequel would continue the actual story, but as we seen from the BETA of HSR, that is not the case at all. Also, HI3 is definitely not a spin off to GGZ. HI3 is a retelling, or reimagining of GGZ. That's what taking an already established cast of characters and giving them a new plot is called.
@@HomuLabs Using the same example you used in this video, it's like you are saying that Fate/stay night is a spin off of Fate/Zero when in fact it's a sequel.
But Fate/Stay Night is directly continuing the events of Fate/Zero while keeping the same setting, thematics and it still revolves around the Holy Gray War. It directly continues plot points left unfinished in Fate/Zero such as the fate of Sakura and Rin, and continues the story arcs for characters like Saber and Gil. That's a direct sequel in the same way APHO is for HI3. That is want sequels do, they directly take characters, thematics or narrative plot points and continue their stories, while a spin off takes an already established story and derives from it into shaping it's own. It has way less things in common with the original story it spin's off from, beside sharing some secondary characters and the same world/universe/multiverse. Honkai: Star Rail is about the Astral Express traveling though the universe and interacting with different civilizations while following the route took by Akivili The Trailblazer and reconnecting the Star Rail. It's clear from the BETA that HSR is it's own thing, that is not directly tied with HI3 besides the character of Welt and sharing the same multiverse. To use the Fate franchise, if HI3 is Fate/Zero, and APHO is Fate/Stay Night, I would say that H:SR is Fate/Apocrypha. So you can't call it a sequel IMO. If you still think that it is, that's fine by me. I just stated my opinions and how I see things, and I hope we can agree that we see the matter in hand very differently.
@@HomuLabs I'll just give my last thoughts so that you'll know mine with Fate as a reference again. The way I understand a spinoff is that it takes some established plot points from the original story and spins it around in its own unique way like how Fate/kaleid Prisma Illya is to Fate/stay night. A good example would be the Captainverse story.
I consider HSR a sequel since it has been teased upon and foreshadowed with APHO, Alien Space manga, and recently Chapter 25ex with the confirmation of the events of Alien Space having occurred. It's a continuation of that story plot and therefore for me a sequel.
P.S. Don't worry, at this point I'm just stating my opinions like you did. I understand that we have our own interpretations of what a spinoff is.
I'm a betatester for Honkai Starrail and due to the fact that we're allowed to stream it i obviously stream it on twitch
and here are a few footnotes.
1. i just saw that video was released more than half a year ago but i already started writing so, i won't stop now.
2. I am more of a action based game fan like Metroidvanias, jump'n run, souls like, etc. But the combat system of the game is incredebly interesting and fun made. it's incredibly dynamic and you can always at any time interupt your enemy if you have an ultimate lodaed. therefore the fighting system is not just your average stale Hit trades like i'm used to in roundbased combat but really variable, engaging and fun.
3. The Main character is supposedly a blank slate first but she/he got their own personality and more voiceovers so far wich i love a lot. i am currently at the part of the game were we help Seele with the help of bronya and didn't even know she existed in the other games shich also shows that, you neither need nor have to play honkai impact and have to endure it's horrible menu system to play or appreciat star rails story, combat system or characters
I maybe wanted to download honkai but it doesn't exist in my phone so I just have genshin impact but overall I did see some honkai vids, there interesting story's and characters with the gameplay that's pretty good so I'm just waiting what honkai starrail is gonna be like when it's finished :)
since Star Rail is officilly coming out on April 20th I wanted to ask a question as a honkai and genshin player I see that himeko is in star rail but how is that possible bc in chapter 25 of honkai himeko died fighting and star rail is based in the future so?
It's not the same Himeko. The HSR Himeko is a version of Himeko from another world. In each world of the Honkaiverse, there are alternate versions of some of the characters from other games. Just like Raiden Ei in Genshin is another version of Raiden Mei from Honkai Impact 3rd, or how the Sustainer of Heavenly Principle is Kiana's counterpart in Genshin Impact.

Bronya and Seele are different people from their HI3 versions. Welt is the same. You can read the Alien Space manga, where they set up Welt and Void Archives travelling to another world to save HSR Himeko from the Sky People.

There is also not a single confirmation that SR is truly continuation of Honkai games or Honkai 4th. For all we know it is a Honkai game that is on another dimension with Welt from main world. Not a proper continuation of main game as it is in another universe.
3:04 i don't know if this is a dumb question but, if the honkai attacks civilizations to test them, does this mean that also genshin impact's world has been attacked / will be attacked?
There are many speculations as to why we don't see honkai in Teyvat. One would be that it's not advanced enough for Honkai to be active. But that is already debunked since we know the Honkai was active in the CE while it was at a similar level of technological advancement with Teyvat. Albeit, Honkai was pretty weak then compared to now, it still existed. Other speculations would be that Honkai is already active and we don't know. Honkai is energy that can take many forms. How we see Honkai manifesting in the world of HI3 is not necessarily how it would manifest in another world. And don't get me started with the theory that Teyvat is in fact a bubble universe in the Sea of Quanta that is hold in place by an Ether Anchor, so the presence of Honkai is not as likely to happen as it would with a normal universe connected with the Imaginary Tree. So yeah, if you want my answer, we don't know yet.
@@HomuLabs Considering Scaramucci's words that the sky is not real and that the word "Teyvat" is translated as "Ark", I dare to suggest that Teyvat is the bubble universe that sustains its existence in one of the ways mentioned by SUGAR.

Honkai:Star Rail might actually be a direct sequel since Post Honkai Odyssey is looking more and more like it continues after HI3's story wraps up.
But that said despite me believing that APHO is cannon to the main story given how everything is currently lining up. It's still a little hard to confirm either way, as since HI3's main story is still going we don't currently have a solid confirmation.

To be honest, I also believe that APHO is canon. MHY confirmed that they wanted to tell the story of HI3 in a unique way by presenting us with the past (Elysian Realm), present (main story), and future (APHO) at the same time. But for the moment, until we have more of a direct bridge between the two, I preferred to keep them separated because you don't really need to play the main story to understand APHO. There may be people that want to learn more about H: SR but don't have the time to play through the whole main story. In this case, APHO, being shorter, can help a lot with some initial context clues for those who are interested. I'm sure that things will become more clear as we will progress with the story.

I wouldn't call HSR a direct sequel to HI3 even if it's canonical; because of the different gameplay. miHoYo obviously wouldn't just give up the (fast paced) action RPG aspect. HI3 will be distributed along side with HSR, just like GGZ and GI. When player's demand (on fast paced action RPG) as well as technology changed too much, miHoYo may release a true direct sequel to HI3. Looking at the other game - franchises, a game with different core gameplay is called spinoff regardless of being canonical.

It's already confirmed by the writers in the dev team so you don't need to worry whether APHO is canon or not.

Honkai universe is different to fate because fate it more of look a like characters more than different version of characters come from different universe Honkai is more like marvel or DC to be exactly alike

tbh fate and honkai series do be like similiar. but the diffrient from each of it is in the execution of their alternated universe, where in Honkai verse they simplified it with bubble universe, where in fate its literally Alternated universe which is somehow the character lore connected with each of the character and yet it has complete saperated universe.
Indeed, they are not quite the same. Like you said. But keep in mind that many new players that never played Honkai may be interested in H: SR, so giving them an example that is somewhat similar yet maybe more familiar, may help people understand things easier.

The “world tree” in fate is just Akasha, and servants are shadows of a hero in the throne, rather than the hero themselves. Saber and Saber alter are aspects of the Artoria Pendragon that used Excalibur while the lancer versions are based of the Lion King/Goddess of Rhogomyniad/King of the Storm version of Artoria. So there are Separated sides of the same character, parallel versions of characters, clones of the characters( MHX, MHXA) or characters that become other characters (psuedo servants and Gray). So in conclusion it’s pretty similar to Honkai imo.

As much as I tried to enjoy honkai. Ive given the game 3 tries now. 1 was when it was first out....Not much to say there, quit early. Next was pc release till 90% of cutsecenes never played and were skipped each time i tried. 3rd was my last shot but i was spoiled on streams that had no corelation to honkai and also its story at this point seemed all over the place and convuluted. Not to mention the returner rewards making you do story that is further then you are and doing story things before getting there IN THE STORY.

I'm glad I found this channel I'm actually an old Honkai player but it's been so long since I first played Honkai Impact that I just lost track of the lore and don't have the same time to read all the dialogue as before

Thank you for your explanation of Honkai and honkai impact 3rd, I had viewed several videos about it but yours was simple and clear by far the best... I'm sure there are caveats or details or whatever but this is all I needed!
I do have a question: Who are the characters from Honkai Star Rail that have a counter part in Honkai Impact?
I know Seele, Himeko, and Bronya have counterparts in Star Rail. Bronya even has 2 counterparts there. I think Raven also has a counter part in Star Rail as well. But who else have counter parts? Mei? Eden? Kiana…?

Sadly the alternate world 2d Honkai impact game is gone.
Only the Global and SEA servers are gone. Unfortunately, they were quite a localization mess with poor translations, or outright missing ones. This, combined with the fact that they had a very low playerbase, brought forth the closing of these server. The CN and JP servers are still up. In fact they are doing better than ever and there are no plans of closing them anytime soon. The game is still being updated there. Just now GGZ got a Honkai collab where they get Herrscher of Sentience as a playable character.

I REALLY hope I can play this game as my first honkai game. I VASTLY prefer the turn based combat in this game than the RTA gameplay of honkai impact 3rd. I really don’t want to have to play that game. Does anyone know if I could get by just watching those “all honkai impact 3rd cutscenes” videos on TH-cam?
all youtube honkai explanation is basically rough explanation, you can miss understand things if you miss one point if you only watch those on youtube
What I recommend the most if you want to experience the story of the game but don't want to play it, is to watch a playthrough on TH-cam. There are people like Unreal Dreamer, aliciaxlife, meehl, or IslandxD that played through the majority of the game. You can check them out. Maybe one of them is to your liking and you can experience the story with them. IMO, watching only the cutscene won't really be enough to fully understand the game.

Thank you so much for this video! I really want to get into HSR once it releases but I've been afraid that I won't be able to understand the story if I don't play the HI3 first. Obviously, with all the HI3 characters having completely different backstories and personalities in HSR, I do believe that HSR will be a lot more impactful if I play HI3 first and connect with its characters, but I simply haven't really had the time to get into it as an incredibly busy HS sudent >_>
I will try to read the manga at least, but considering how the release date for HSR is still TBA, I think I'll have enough time to check out APHO and maybe even HI3, but the latter is probably copium IDK
