You are so right about writing it down! When my salary comes in, it seems like a lot. But when I write down my expenses and whatever got me excited, I am humbled back to reality of what I ACTUALLY afford. That quickly sobers me up!😅💀
Great video Mapalo, thank you! It’s so easy to get caught up in lifestyle inflation and in most cases its because of one little phrase..."l deserve this!" I've worked so hard so l deserve a car upgrade, or a designer handbag or luxury vacation. And we now want to achieve what our parents achieved in 20+ years in 5 years. Having a balanced approach and plan for your money always helps. So whether you get an increase or lumpsum amount, you know off the bat where it's going to go before it comes. Like the 50/30/20 budgeting principle. It still factors in 30% towards wants/fun stuff (because yes, you still "deserve" to enjoy your hard earned money) but at the same time you know you've saved & invested & living within your means.
I would like to suggest how you would advise someone to prepare for loadshedding. Loadshedding is here to stay and the solutions are getting more and more expensive.

This is some good advice to definitely sit for month on your old salary before you plan what you will use the extra increase for cause spending is so easier than accountability or being responsible .

You are right, by the way I think the best thing to do is to expose oneself to financial advise. For example I have learned about danger of social signalling by listening to financial advisors. And keep on doing the great work. Thanks
I discovered your podcast last week and listening to the episode with Sam about handling your money like an f’n adult, really resonated with me. I managed to close my credit card this week(and actually had a positive balance but I wasn’t aware cause I was too naive to look at my balance/statements. Your work absolutely is necessary for us women and I tell all my girlfriends about this channel! Love your work and intentions❤
