- These past two weeks have been super busy, with us renewing our Visas, and with us taking the mandatory steps to getting a new dog. But tonight's Date Night, and NOTHING GETS IN THE WAY OF DATE NIGHT! But first....we need dope coffee and physiotherapy.

Yesterday I was very frustrated with TH-cam and its content. A lot of youtubers post videos that has been done over and over again and I started to feel like the quality of the content is taking a nosedive. Since when did this platform become a nest for people who compete for views, advertise products they don’t use, and couldn’t do anything else right, so y’know why not do TH-cam..? And then I watch your video, so beautiful, even thoughtful in sharing experiences like going to physio and what that is like, and you still apologize for not having higher quality content. Some people do crappy vlog for 365 days and call it an achievement. Thank you for raising the bar and restoring faith to this platform.
Wow gosh. Thank you for such a great comment! I read it aloud to Simon, we appreciate it because it does feel surprisingly hard to upload a video we feel isn’t “better” by our own standards. Like if the audio is noisy (the cars in the cafe scene) I felt like I wanted to cut it out. Or shaking footage. Or too much talking. But we’re trying to listen to our amazing audiences feedback and leave in more natural stuff. Thanks for the honest feedback! :)

Simon and Martina I’ve been a subscriber pre EYK nasty studio time and I know your videos are always in a format, maybe because both of you were teachers. Vlogs are a legit format of content, they always say it’s interesting walk a day in someone else shoes. However, I feel people then abuse it to show crappy cuts of drinking coffee in a cafe, shopping, going to the gym, and to the salon for friggin 365 days like an endless cycle of evil. Nobody is that interesting. I’d love a more relaxed, longer videos from you where maybe you vlog what physio is like in Japan and how is it different than other countries. Still have a “direction” to the videos but less so of a rigid format. Anyway I appreciate you take TH-cam seriously and really think about what community you are building and what point you are making. This is the ultimate bar of standards.

can you do a video about renewing your visa? Is it different because you work with the Breaker network? I fully realize while I would *love* to move to Japan, but it probably won't happen because while I do have some amazing skills, I am not marketable (Needed ) in Japan. so I wouldn't be hired to work there.

Simon I agree with you 100% with not always trying to take a bajollion pics to make memories but to just bask and enjoy the moment such as the smells and tastes of foods, the weather etc. Even with videos you'll remember them more vividly if you watch it in a place other than your room.

Oh Martina I'm right there with you eating raw peas!! When I was a kid my dad had this big garden with multiple rows of snow peas, and honesty that's probably why I ate vegetables as a kid. there is nothing better than peas picked from the vine, slightly warmed by the sun. 🍃🌞❤
Every time you drop one of these little details like "japan loves stamp cards" the feeling that I need to go there gets stronger :') I love stamp cards and used to collect some when they were still a thing. As a kid, when I went to gardening camp, we totally opened the pea pods and ate the peas right after picking them. They have a fresh sweetness that is just amazing. I absolutely hear you about work being life. My amazing wife and I both teach and live at boarding high schools, so our work is our life as well! We use date night the same way: to get away from day to day life, our students (the ones we coach and the ones we teach) and just focus on us. My husband is an osteopath and when I was first dating him and he explained to me what he did I was a total skeptic but then I hurt my ankle really bad and he treated it using Ostéopathe and I became a believer and advocate for Ostéopathe! In one treatment the pain was gone and he was able to tell exactly how I fell to hurt it the way I did. I am so glad you found an osteopath who is helping! Lucky me I married one lol. I also got treated for a herniated disc by an Osteopath/Physio and was able to recover way faster thanks to them. Was so pleasantly surprised to see someone else who knows the good an osteopath can do!

Thank you for stressing the importance of strengthening TVA muscles! I had 2 babies in less than 2 years and ended up with a core injury (diastasis recti) so I've been doing rehab exercises for 4 years now. Also what you said about osteopaths is spot on. My massage therapist has done way more for my core than doctors!
I love watching the two of you do romantic things together. My husband and I can only afford a few date nights a year living in Los Angeles so it's nice to live vicariously through you! And don't worry, these videos are not boring at all.

1. I am a complete pea-lover. In college, I would get entire cans of peas and just eat them as a snack. I am still mocked for it to this day.

I also have a connective tissue disorder and I just recently had my first physiotherapy appointment and it was really awesome how they could see exactly where my imbalances were and pointed out to me how I was hyper extending on my exercises and that my “normal” isn’t normal

Date night is so important. My husband and I make it a point to have that time to ourselves because life with 3 kids gets hectic and it’s so easy to get lost in the daily routine. We try to go to different places to explore the city and find new favourites.
