Strolling to Stockholm City Hall

Walking along the waterfront from Norr Mälarstrand to Stockholm City Hall offers a scenic and historically significant experience in Stockholm.
Norr Mälarstrand, located on the northern shore of Riddarfjärden, is a beautiful promenade that became a prominent part of Stockholm’s urban development in the early 20th century. The area was modernized in the 1930s as part of the city’s effort to create public spaces that harmonized nature with urban life. Today, it is one of Stockholm’s most popular walking routes, known for its Art Deco and Functionalist architecture, including iconic apartment buildings.
The walk provides stunning views of the Riddarfjärden Bay, with landmarks such as the Södermalm cliffs on the opposite side and boats moored along the way. The promenade is lined with green parks, seating areas, and sculptures.
The walk ends at Stockholm City Hall, a masterpiece of Swedish National Romantic architecture designed by Ragnar Östberg and completed in 1923. The building is famous for its golden tower topped with three crowns, symbolizing Sweden. It also hosts the annual Nobel Prize banquet in the Blue Hall. The surrounding courtyard and waterfront provide excellent photo opportunities.
