💯
Yeah I saw this back in the early 90s when I was about 5 or 6. Been one of my favorites ever since.
отличный фильм
I saw it in the theatre, knowing nothing about it.
@@martinboyle9163 Dude really? Man. I can only imagine how cool that would have been to see in the movies when it had just come out. There are a ton of movies that I wish I could watch again for the first time, and Stand By Me in the theaters would be one of them. To me, it’s a more mature version of Stranger Things, Goonies, and Monster Squad.
That final line hits harder the older you get. Friends was just something else when you were a kid.
All the best friends I've had have been during my adult years.
Especially for males. Women do a better job of keeping in touch with friends they grew up with. Us guys, not so much, and it’s a damn shame. But I’m guilty of it too. Best friends I ever had was when I was a kid. I guess life just gets in the way and people grow apart.
@@andrewq159I mean… that’s great. I do question what kind of a childhood you had though. Everything is a new experience when you’re a kid. Drugs, movies, parties, sleepovers, sneaking out and finding trouble, etc. As a child you can also get away with stuff that you can’t as an adult. We never went looking for a dead body, but the things we did as kids…
@@NothingButSilicone What stuff can you get away with?
@@andrewq159 Lots of stuff. Mostly light work of course. The heavy stuff, you’ll still get hit, but not tried as an adult. I’ll give you an example though. Right next to my neighborhood growing we had a private airport. In the middle of the night, my two best friends and I would sneak out, and we’d each take one side of the runway, and run down it kicking out all of the light bulbs. We finally stopped when the guy in the watch tower got on a 4 wheeler and chased us. That evening, a plane had to make an emergency landing on the main blvd next to the airport, because they couldn’t see the runway. Yes, dangerous and stupid, I know. But as kids (I’m thinking about the same age as these kids in the movie) it was a blast. Imagine what kind of potential charges an adult would get for doing something like that. Kids do get away with stuff that adults can not. Not only that, but if you come from a good home, for the most part, being a kid is worry free. Only responsibilities you have is school, maybe some basic chores, mowing the neighbors lawns for some coin, or a part time job when you hit 16. Easy life. I’m aware that isn’t the case for all kids though, and that’s really too bad. Knew plenty of kids from broken homes, and I had a ton of advantages they didn’t.
She says she doesn't know what to say to cheer a person up but dasha's channel has helped distract me since my dad died. I get too depressed to watch a full movie but having it chopped up n seeing her reaction to it makes it easier. Sometimes being a positive person helps when you don't even realize it.
It's one of those rare movies that touches your soul. No matter where you grew up or what era, it's relatable and lovable.
I always said that Stand by Me was basically IT without the monster. It has much the same dynamic with the kids, their encounters with the bullies, and their lousy parents. There's a bit in the novel of IT where Eddie is thinking to himself "Adults are the real monsters," and that does inform a lot of Stephen King's work...you see a lot of bad parents in his stories. And yeah, this really captures how boys that age talk and act with each other.
Also fun fact, the kid that brought the comb, grew up to marry Rebecca Romijn, the woman that played mystic in the original X-Men
I guess he didn't need the comb after all.
Hey Dasha. Always enjoy your reactions. This movie reminded me of my son and his three close friends. When he died at the age of 13, I had the song “Stand By Me” played at the funeral. All the kids in attendance understood why.
Damn. You lost your son at the age of 13? Life is cruel. It’s things like that which make it difficult for me to have faith. A father should never have to bury his son, especially not so young and not having even had the chance to live their life yet.
@@NothingButSilicone you are right. I wouldn’t wia
@@NothingButSilicone you are right. I wouldn’t want anyone to go through that. It was 33 years ago last month. Still hurts.
@@rickcrane9883 I imagine you’ll die still feeling it. Won’t ever go away. Not for a father. Not when it was a son, and an innocent one at that. Being that he was only 13, he didn’t even even have a chance to do wrong. Is there at least a bright side to this? Please tell me there is. Did you have other boys?
@@NothingButSilicone no other boys. My daughter has a son and named him in honor of her beloved brother. A bright side? 33 years later and I still stay in contact with his many friends. They have been extremely supportive. There were about 200 kids at the funeral. Eight of his best buds were pallbearers.
I grew up loving this movie as a kid but the older I get, the harder it hits me. Truly a beautiful story ❤
Same for me. I haven't seen this in years and I just realized how much I relate to older Gordie now.
@@MrLivewire1970 I don't relate at all to going on a very long walk to find a corpse when I was 12.
Me too.
Yeah, things hit different as an adult. Music is another one. There are songs that touch me like they never have before. It’s made me question my mental health, but I’m really thinking it just comes from experience and understanding that I did not have in my youth.
@@andrewq159 That’s only a very small part of the story. I doubt any kids when I’m a 2 day hike to find a body, but I’m sure you had great adventures with your friends as a kid didn’t you?
Ms. Dasha, after this, you should give The Sandlot a try. It's a sports movie that rings the hearts of 90's kids.
⚾️
No sandlot and no mighty ducks.

One of the greatest movies ever. So endlessly quotable, tear jerking
It's kind of astounding how many of the cast went on to have big acting careers. All of the four main kids did. Will Wheaton went on the next year to one of the main roles in Star Trek: Next Generation, Jerry O'Connell would eventually star in the TV show "Sliders".This was something of a breakout role for Kieifer Sutherland (the bully), who would land a starring role in "The Lost Boys" a year later, then to many more starring roles and would play Jack Bauer in the TV show "24". John Cusack (the older brother) would have a big role in "Eight Men Out" two years later and go on to a huge career. It's hard to think of another movie with so many young future stars-maybe "The Outsiders" (which would make a great reaction, Dasha.)
I don't think Gordie's dad actually said he wished Gordie had died instead of his brother, I think that's the way Gordie thought his dad felt by the way his dad was treating him, so it came out in his dream. His dad was so wrapped up in his grief he forgot he had another son who needed love and encouragement, too.
Thumbs up on *The Outsiders* (1983).
Fun fact. This is adapted from a steven king story called The Body. And it comes from the Steven king book, Different Seasons - which has 4 stories in it. One of those other stories is called Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption.
The card game they were playing was 31. You get three cards and the closest to 31 wins, but they all have to be the same suit. You can also get 30 if you have three of a kind. On your turn, you can draw a card or take one from the discard pile. When you think you can win, you knock then everyone else gets one turn. When I was around this same age, (10-12) my dad and I would play 31 to see who had to cook that night. It always makes me happy to see it in a movie.
20 Miles is about 32 miles. 1.61 km per mile.
The leech scene was inspired by a real event from King's childhood.
'He was stabbed in the throat; he died almost instantly'
I've seen this movie a dozen times and I cry there every time, including now.
Thank you as always for your sincere and emotional reaction.
Funny note: I was in a pie eating contest at work a few years ago and before we started, I told some coworkers to start chanting LARDASS LARDASS LARDASS to cheer me on just for the humor of it.
Serious note: This movie was one of the things that set the standard to know what real friendship was like and how to hold on to it. Truly one of the best movies for kids of my generation to enjoy and learn from.......sincerely.
Dasha, you said everyone should have friends like this. I might turn it around a bit. Everyone should be a friend like Chris
Samwise Gangee nods
@@Billinois78 he made a promise and he aims to keep it.

Stephen King is the Man. Such a great story teller. Probably holds the record for the most screen adaptations.
It always seemed to me that King had a very complicated relationship to small towns. He idealizes them in some ways but is very critical of them as well. I don't doubt that he was bullied or knew someone who was.
Great reaction to one of my faves!
Every film I'm about to mention, I recommend to you if you haven't already seen it!
Same writer as The Green Mile, The Shawshank Redemption, and Misery: Stephen King.
Same director as A Few Good Men, Misery, and When Harry Met Sally. . .: Rob Reiner.
Richard Dreyfuss starred in Jaws, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Always, The Goodbye Girl, Mr. Holland's Opus, What About Bob? and Whose Life Is It Anyway?
Kiefer Sutherland starred in The Lost Boys, A Few Good Men, and A Time To Kill, and on 24 and Designated Survivor.
Corey Feldman is known for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and The Goonies.
Jerry O'Connell starred on My Secret Identity, Sliders, and Star Trek: Lower Decks and in Jerry Maguire.
Wil Wheaton starred on Star Trek: The Next Generation and hosts the weekly TV show The Ready Room; he has also appeared in Star Trek: Nemesis, and on Star Trek: Picard.
Gordie's mom was also the main character's mom in Gremlins and Footloose.
Gordie's dad had major roles in Total Recall and Starship Troopers.
Gordie's brother (John Cusack) is best known for Sixteen Candles, Say Anything. . ., Grosse Pointe Blank, Serendipity, Con Air, Being John Malkovich, and Hot Tub Time Machine.
The bully at the pie-eating contest, Dick Durock, guest-starred on The Incredible Hulk, and starred as the title character in 2 movies and on the TV series as The Swamp Thing.
The four main actors, River Phoenix, Wil Wheaton, Corey Feldman and Jerry O'Connell all had some success later on in movies or television.
But the most successful one was probably the guy who played Ace, actor Kiefer Sutherland.
This is such a beautiful film. It's an amazingly nostalgic film, even though I wasn't alive in the 50s. It really makes you look back on life, and remember your childhood and friends from when you were young. This movie has evolved for me over the years. I wad the kids' age when this movie came out, and now I'm the narrator/writers age remembering back to the time when this movie came out. Its an exceptionally moving movie, IMO. Great reaction, Dasha.
Actor playing Chambers is River Phoenix. This movie was out in 1987. In 1993 River died of a drug overdose. Very tragic. His brother is actor Joaquin Phonix, who has been in several movies. River Phoenix was best friends with Keanu Reeves who starred in Speed, The Matrix and was John Wick.
The movie came out in 1986.
This is one of my ALL TIME FAVORITE coming-of-age Stephen King movies. It was wonderful to see you react, as usual.
Kids back in the 50’s, and even now, who come from poor families, have to grow up fast in America. It’s very common, unfortunately.
You have a gift with your expressive face. Just a FYI…I live pretty close to this place the movie was filmed at…I just passed Castle Rock, Oregon a few weeks ago. I’m north of Seattle, in Washington State.
Sending you all the best luck! My fiancé and I love to see you here all the time. We’re in our 50’s, so you are like a daughter to us, from Russia. 🥰😘
RIP River Phoenix to this day one of the greatest actors ever.
Wonderful movie and another great reaction. The character, Chris Chambers was played by River Phoenix, the older brother of Joaquin Phoenix who played Commodus in Gladiator and won best actor Oscar for Joker. Sadly, he died aged 23 from an overdose cutting short what looked like becoming a great acting career.
“If break your promise, you have to break your pinky” wow someone just raised the stakes
One of King's best stories and one of the few examples where the film did the original source material justice in encapsulating the premise of the original story.
Dasha, I think you asked a question as to whether King wrote from experience. As most writers there is an element of King's real life in this one, not that it loosely follows a real life tale about a ragtag group of boys searching for a dead boy, but that as I remember it, one of Stephen King's friends was hit and killed by a train when they were both this age and King was apparently present when it happened.
I say apparently, because King doesn't remember what happened, but he was with the friend earlier that day before he was killed and King was still present in the area of the accident when he was found by an adult in a significantly 'dazed' state, so it's believed that he was present when the other boy was killed. King specifically said that the accident was the core element that he built this story around, though everything else aside from a young boy being hit and killed by a train, is fiction.
I've seen this movie 13,457 times and it still gets me every time
Chris Chambers was played by actor River Phoenix who also starred in films such as Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, My own Private Idaho and Little Nikita. He died tragically from a drug overdose in 1993 at the age of 23
Edit: character name corrected
Chambers :)
@@rgoodwyn oops my bad
My Own Private Idaho. Hadn't thought about that one for a long time. I remember walking by myself several miles across Seattle to see that. Not sure why I chose to walk, other than being super heartbroken at the time. A good movie, but probably not helpful for me at the time. It did have a few scenes shot near where I was living on Queen Anne Hill.
I read HF had wanted River to play young Indy after they did The Mosquito Coast together.
@mrcody333cam After Stand by Me, his second favorite role for me was in The Explorers. Another one of my childhood favorites :)
Gordie’s parents ignored him except his brother Denny.
"pinky promise is important because if you break your promise you have to break your pinky"
They build children different in Russia, JEEEEEZE😳
Kids back then did smoke, pretty much a status symbol. Always enjoy your reactions Dasha.
Richard Dreyfus, of Jaws and all those all movies, narrates this. Ironically, Dreyfus was in a similar movie in 1973 called American Graffiti that take place in 1962, with the soundtrack being all the old rock and roll songs from the 1950's and early 1960's. Teenagers cruising around the last night before they go off to college kind of thing. Both dramatic and funny.. worth a watch, character development and not just gags..."Where Were You in' 62" was the catch phrase on the poster.
*I love **#Dasha** & this movie, it's interesting how the closest of friends that you share everything with when you're young you lose touch with for many different reasons when life happens to them or to you*
Remind you of *(Goonies?) "Mouth"* from *(Goonies)* is *Corey Feldman* who's plays *"Teddy"* in this one
Gordy crying is even sadder when you hear about Wil Whetons real life story
22:28 - all children deserve parents... *Not all parents deserve children*
15:34 "That's weird. What the hell _is_ Goofy?"
Especially when he walks _Pluto._ _Goofy_ is as much a dog as Mickey is a _mouse._ They're both anthropomorphic. Pluto, on the other hand, _isn't._ He's a dog who acts like an actual _dog._
It's a great movie, these kids are more adult than some grown-ups I know. I'm so glad I had wonderful parents, kind and supportive. It's not the case for everyone.
Kids aren't babies. They can manifest an impressive amount of insight and emotional intelligence. It's just most adults choose not to acknowledge it.
Coyotes are more dangerous than wolves.
Coyotes are smaller, much smaller than wolves, but they are less afraid of humans and more aggressive. They also sound like children playing. Creepy.
4:21 "If you break your promise then you have to break your pinky"
I think Russians must take "pinky swear" WAY more seriously than Americans.
Wil Wheaton is in that movie! He looked about 13 in 1986. A year before Star Trek: The Next Generation.
The kids in the movie were more mature than the adults. Some of the grown ups looked at some of the kids wild animals or thieves when they were the complete opposite. The way Teddy stood up for his dad that hurt him and how Chris took responsibility for his family’s actions. Point is that this group of four inspires others to be better and wiser.
parts of this movie remind me of my childhood - especially the line "should've been you"
This is a fantasy film.
As Dasha pointed out, a lot of the conversations were very adult, and I would say very retrospective. You don't reflect on events in your life the way they did until you are older.
Plus most of the adults being jerks, (the shop keeper wasn't, but I though that scene was to illustrate Wheaton's character was out of place in the town because he wasn't into sports and "normal" things.), is basically how the kids saw the adults.
I might even say the film was a bit ham fisted. Dad was super mean or dismissive in every scene, bro was super sweet and supportive, grown ups were mean and Sutherland was evil. No real subtlety in it. As I said, basically the selected memories of the story teller.
Still a great film though.
Speak for yourself. I was born in '73 so about 13 when this movie came out, and it actually hit harder for me then and now is more about nostalgia. Then again, I always felt like an adult among kids when I was a kid. So maybe you're just speaking for yourself and the majority, while I'm speaking for the few.
"One in the chamber" is how it's said when there's a bullet / round in the gun ready to fire.
Easy way to remember: _Chris Chambers left a round in the chamber._
Castle Rock Entertainment, director Rob Reiner's production company, is named for the town in this movie.
Stand by Me really captures the way boys that age act around each other. I had friends like that.
When Rob Reiner finished the movie he did a private screening for Steven King. When it was over. King didn't say anything at first, and Reiner noticed that King was shaking. After a while, King told Reiner it was the best adaptation of one of his works he'd ever seen.
Other movies directed by Rob Reiner: This is Spinal Tap, The Princess Bride (which you've reacted to), When Harry Met Sally, Misery (which you've also reacted to), and A Few Good Men
"my dad hates me" - i can relate oh too well
Based on the Stephen King novella, The Body, found in the Different Seasons book
When you get a chance, take a look at who those child actors are and what they've done since this film. I think you'll be surprised.
😎👍 When you stop and think about it, it's Pluto who is the odd one out, not Goofy. The Disney universe is full of talking dogs ("Lady And The Tramp," "101 Dalmatians," "The Fox And The Hound," "Oliver & Company" etc). Pluto Pup is pretty much the only non-talking animated character in the house of mouse.
If you want another coming of age story might I suggest "The Sandlot" And if you're looking for another great movie directed by Rob Reiner might I suggest "A few good men"
Thanks for sharing your reaction Dasha.
Omg... 😂😂😂 lol
The 19:40 "that's what she said" joke made me laugh 👏👏
"What is Goofy" is a question I have turned into a metaphor for a lot of things. What a great movie and all the actors had some success.
Great reaction Dasha. I loved this movie growing up, but it was not till I was older that I realized just how great it is. I am in my early 40s and two years ago I lost one of my life long friends due to random illness. I remember watching a reaction to this movie shortly after and thinking I was just going to relive my enjoyment of it, but it hit different than I ever expected. When you are young life seems so carefree, but when you are older the realization comes that you have limit time so don't miss any chance to enjoy it.
I think you would love the movie American Graffiti.Richard Dreyfus is in that movie as well
You should see what Jerry O'Connell, the kid who played Vern grew up to look like.
Will Wheaton ( taller kid in red shirt ), this role echoed his real life situation with his parents ( emotional abuse - they forced to him to get into acting as a child ).
Dam, that reminded me of the time I walked to my friends house.
There was a park behind his backyard. On the other side of the park there were some Doberman pinschers.
They had gotten under the fence and I saw them charging right at me.
I ran like hell and jumped on to my friends fence just in time and then a turn to my left and see my other friend jumping on to the fence.
He says' "Dam, that was close."
I didn't even know he was behind me.
Top 10 movie of all time. I really do love all of your reactions. You’re incredibly sweet, and I love your laugh.
6:25 In the city I live in there was a court case. Where the son of the mayor of the town injured his arm "playing" the game of knocking over mail boxes. It turns out the son would frequent one strip and an owner had replaced his mail box several times. The last time he made the mail box steal reinforced and it shatter's the mayor's son's arm when he swung his bat at it. The judge did not rule in favor of the son for damages to his arm.
What a wise judge.
This is a great movie
I was 12 when this film came out. The perfect age for this one to really hit hard. These days, even harder. Years later I finally read the short story it was based on, The Body, which was great. They really put in the effort to fit as much of the original story into this film.
The writer, Stephen King, cried when he saw the film
This movie reminds me of another classic called "Explorers"
Stephen King was THE writer of this. It was a short story from his book Different Seasons which also featured Rita Hayworth And The Shawshank Redemption.
In the book the story is called The Body.
The novella this is based on is from the same collection that Shawshank Redemption came from. Stephen King's "slice of life" stories are some of his very best. He can write characters people care about like few other authors in the world can.
An excellent movie :) It came out a year before I was born, and it was one of my childhood favorites. And I definitely agree with the final line! It's just so much easier to make and keep friends when you're a kid.
Honestly this is most male friendships. Built on experiences pushed by support.
My all time favorite movie! And the fact that you threw in an, "that's what she said", made this video AWESOME!
The story the movie was based on was called “The Body” , castle rock is supposed to be in Maine not Oregon, not sure why they changed that detail. All those children grew up to be famous, Will Wheaton..Star Trek…River Phoenix (Joaquin’s older brother) was a rising star but died of drug overdose, Jerry O’Connell lost a lot of weight and was the star of Sliders, Corey Feldman was a huge star (until he accused some Hollywood director of molesting him and another friend of his and he was labeled a crazy person and blackballed in Hollywood…with all the latest stuff about Harvey Weinstein…maybe he was telling the truth) John Cusack and Kiefer Sutherland are huge stars. Love this movie
Goofy is a person, he is how Walt Disney saw people.
thank you for this Dasha, Im really happy you got to see this movie, I skipped through your review a bit as Im so busy with work at the moment, too busy to feel much at all, so yeh your feelings about it and the clips of the movie itself made me feel quite a lot, so, soo good to feel
Thank you!❤
I grew up with this flick, and I enjoyed every moment of it, but I also got the gist of it, how friends come and go, but true friends are there for you through thick and thin and have your back, they pick you up when you fall, and they let you know when you're messing up, even when you don't want to hear it. That was Chris Chambers, the best friend Gordie LaChance ever could have had.
Oh yeah, funniest line I ever heard in this flick --
"Now he _said_ "Sic em, boy", but what _I_ heard was 'Chopper, sic balls'" 🤣.
9:50 A line to remember that made me think Gordie was wise beyond his years -- "But going to see a dead kid? Maybe it shouldn't be a party."
9:57 When I was coming up I'd seen other kids my age doing the same thing, not with razors but with pencil erasers. Basically they rubbed the eraser on the skin to create burn scars. Less chance of infection.

I really love this movie and I enjoy and appreciate your movie reactions too. I cry every time I see this movie and even this time as well. Your hair looks nice by the way. I too hope at some point in our lives that we all have a true friend like in this movie. Sincerely I do. ❤
I still think of the friends I had around that age. Most of them have faded away but I’m lucky I still have one I keep in touch with. He was the best man at my wedding last month :)
The film is a classic coming of age story. However when I watch it now I can't help thinking of the fates of some of the actors playing the four boys which are pretty tragic:
- River Phoenix died at 23 overdosing on a mix of cocaine and heroine.
- Corey Feldman has claimed he was sexually abused as a boy by various people on the Hollywood scene and that abuse of child actors is common. He has also suffered from drug and alcohol abuse and been accused of sexual harrassment himself. He's clearly very messed up.
- Wil Wheaton has suffered from alcoholism and various mental health issues including PTSD, anxiety and depression.
I love this movie and I'm glad you had the chance to view it. If you are up for another Rob Reiner film based on teenagers you should check out Flipped. It stars Aidan Quinn, Anthony Edwards, Rebecca DeMornay, Penelope Ann Miller and John Mahoney 😁
My friends and I saw this in the 80s when we were their age and it was still recent enough that we could relate to those boys. We had to grow up fast just like them, along with all the cussing and smoking and mischief, and we also helped each other through some very adult situations that no kid should ever have to think about. The adults were mostly terrible too, it was like this film was made just for us. Partly thanks to this movie, I do still have a friend like the one I had when I was twelve, I've stayed best friends with my Chris Chambers for 35 years now.
This is the best movie ever, SINCERELY!!
People playing mailbox baseball is one of the many reasons it's a felony to mess with mailboxes
This is such a great movie and one where you can watch it over and over. This is a rare one where I thought the movie was better than the novella. The cast is amazing and the script is so engaging. A movie that doesn't have a demographic, it can be for anyone!
Greetings. Very nice reaction. Nice movie where it is true sometimes it is difficult to maintain a beautiful friendship but it is life. Some will arrive. Others would leave and some will stay. The River actor who played Chris was one of those who was highly expected as an artist. I understand that he was the candidate to play Jack in Titanic. Unfortunately, he too died very young and by a supposedly involuntary accident of a friend. They explain it in their biography.
One of stephen Kings most interesting short stories.
Best line..."it was a complete and total barfaromma".
A mile is about 1.6 kilometers, so their guess of 20 miles is about 32 kilometers.
Well, now that you've seen _this_ movie, let me recommend a movie that, I infer, sometimes gets mixed _up_ with it. It's called _Lean on Me._ It came out in 1989, and although the title is _similar,_ the movie is _very_ different.
_Stand by Me_ is a work of fiction. Very _good,_ very _realistic_ fiction, but fiction all the same.
_Lean on Me_ is about Principal Joseph Clarke and his efforts to get the students of East Side High School in Patterson, New Jersey, to graduation after the school's academic standing (and _safety_ standards) have spent the last two decades sliding. The media had come to call it "a cauldron of violence."
I've never seen somone notice how they wipe their hands on their shirt. I love your videos, super cool.
"That's what she said"?????? O.M.G!
I used to do all that stuff when I was a kid, going on journeys down the tracks, exploring, finding trouble, and messing with trains. Boys need that, maybe girls too but I can only speak from the male perspective. You really do never have friends like the ones when you were 12.
*"Teddy's"* dad stormed *Normandy Beach* remember the opening scenes to *( Saving Private Ryan)* you reacted to
Great movie. This movie is always kind of sad considering Reaver Phonix died in real life. Another great kid adventure movie is Flight Of The Navigator . A great coming of age movie (With older people not kids) no one reacted to is Big Wednesday. Also another Rob Riener great movie is When Harry Met Sally. The actor who plays Vern is Jerry O'Connell and plays on The Big Bang Theory , Sliders and Jerry Macgvyer. Gordey mom is from Gremlins and Back From The Future. Gordey Dad is from Twins and Total Recall. Steven King has The Running Man a great action movie with Arnold Swarchenger you should see.

In American movies, bullies are a regular troupe.
5:00 20 miles = a bit over 32 km.
You can walk that far in a single day, I've personally hiked that far in a day, and I'm an amputee.
