It may have been an act to protect her from his mother's schemes but he still hurt her, then he acted like all was well when it was finally over. He also killed her first love and made her watch. When they first met he made her fall in love with him, tricked her into leading where her people were hiding, and slaughtered them all on what was supposed to have been their wedding day. He may have loved her, but it's the kind of love that poisons and drains the life out of you. As sad as this ending was, at least she became finally freed of him and was returned to the place she sorely loved and missed since she was forced to marry him.

Yes she dove into the river of forgetfulness because she couldn't stand the pain of his betrayal and his attitude that "its not my fault I had to do it but accept me anyway". Based on the comments I read, glad everyone’s not siding with him and still wishes for a happy ending. Hated this drama. He was never worthy of her love. He murdered everyone that she loved, betrayed her multiple times and it was all for his further advancement. I think I watched this ending 10 times and I still bawl my eyes out, every time. We couldn't hope for another ending. She suffered so much, lost so many loved ones. And the ML could never be forgiven for all these losses. Aaaargh, what a tragic yet beautiful story! I'm also always looking for new drama with both leads but damn it never hits the same way...

Xingxu not interested in season 2 i think he rejected already. He went a long way now after GMP, been very busy having drama after drama. In fact he was offered another drama with Xiaoran but rejected it 2x without even reading the script. With his success he doesnt need to be paired with her, maybe in the future. Anyway Xiaoran doing good too in her dramas. Wish them more success and happiness in their respective career

its a masterpiece! I've watch this many times. The ending was somehow unpredictable. It is not what viewers expected. It taught us a lesson of trust and betrayal. I always said it also that the actress leading role really looks like our Filipina Actress kristine Reyes, her voice too she sounded her, and she is as good as her too.

Honestly this ending for her did not surprise me. she was pushed too far in the end she could either kill him or herself and since she never could because she loved him that was the only other option.

Did you watch and listen the final episode with the long speech of Xiaofeng? When she saved him the first time they met in the desert, she ask him 3 promises. Only one was fulfilled during their life together. So on the final scene she reminded him again - she ask him not to ever enter or go in war with Xi State, and the 3rd one that HE LIVE WELL! Why? Because Xiaofeng realized he is needed to lead the Li Empire because she knows he will lead it right and fair, he will be a good Emperor and so he did until after 30 years he relinquished the throne to his nephew in a peaceful and bloodless way

Sadly this is the best ending! The alternative ending planned still had her suffer and he redeemed himself?! And the 4 episode "it was all just a nightmare" ending, set in modern times, seemed to be trying to win back some support for the li cheng.

One of the best tragic ending. I can't bring myself to rewatch the whole drama but I rewatched the ending several times. Her death sad as it may be is the best ending. It brings peace to both nations, it stopped her suffering and made him suffer for the rest of his life.
I don't think it's a sad ending. She suffered so much. A'du was the one that helped her hold on and without her there's no truly happy ending for her. She's had so much loss that this was the best ending for her. She would have never been able to completely forgive him in that life. It's also not the ending. The ending shows them in modern times, A'du is their neighbor and friend and they're happily married in a little house.

its a masterpiece! I've watch this many times. The ending was somehow unpredictable. It is not what viewers expected. It taught us a lesson of trust and betrayal. I always said it also that the actress leading role really looks like our Filipina Actress kristine Reyes, her voice too she sounded her, and she is as good as her too.

Honestly this ending for her did not surprise me. she was pushed too far in the end she could either kill him or herself and since she never could because she loved him that was the only other option.
crazy how hes saying he cant live if shes dies but how does he even live after all the shit hes done to her now ? how can he not be beside himself with disgust and self hatred after putting her through all the shit hes done ? how can he live knowing the girl he ‘loves’ attempted not once , but twice because of him ? like even after all that , he still doesnt understand the torture, the anguish, the undeniable pain he put her through . she did not deserve to die like that , i wish she could’ve gotten a better ending . but then again , that ending was needed , otherwise he’d never leave her in peace . his obsession and greed are too strong .

Because Xiaofeng realized he is needed to lead the Li Empire because she knows he will lead it right and fair, he will be a good Emperor and so he did until after 30 years he relinquished the throne to his nephew in a peaceful and bloodless way

She's had so much loss that this was the best ending for her. She would have never been able to completely forgive him in that life. It's also not the ending. The ending shows them in modern times, A'du is their neighbor and friend and they're happily married in a little house.
