Off-course it is difficult. On a normal day I generally wake up at 5:30 am, so body is habituated to be awake after 5:30. The problem is to remain awake before that. So I generally try to sleep between 2 am to 5 am when on road trip. It keeps me fresh for next 7-8 hours till I reach my destination.

Mileage of diesel cars is at least 5 to 8 kmpl better than petrol. Plus there is also a feel good factor of paying less for a tank fuel. For a person driving car at a rate of 25000 km per year, he would recover his initial cost in approx 4 years and afterwards it would be saving if he plans to keep his car for longer duration. But now in current scenario calculations have changed, it is advisable to buy diesel only if your running is quite high.

I think in stationary car it is legal but may not be legal in a moving car.
