Lmao, hilarious how he keeps shoving praise down his throat while Alex is one of the most humble, down to earth climbing athletes out there, desperately trying to wave it away 😂😂😂
@@daanvanoverbeek8637 I mean, has anyone in the world touched more earth than someone like Alex? Mountains gotta be the most earthy thing on earth other than earth.
He is super modest. He is one of the greatest all round climbers: bouldering, sport, trad and bigwall. Free soloing is pretty unimportant in his portfolio and he doesn't do it anymore.
The first time I ever saw Alex was when I was following the Magnus Midtbø channel and Magnus turned up to meet Alex for a visit in the US and Alex took him freesoloing when Magnus really didn't fancy it (Alex suggested it as a surprise on the day), but he didn't want to back out so the pressure was on. That was my first impression of Alex and I don't think I can ever quite forgive him for it. We could have lost one of our European best. 🤣
It is, but it's so so fun. I've never loved a sport like it. Your mind clears, you feel connected with your body, your balance improves, your grip is stronger, the people are friendly. The only downsides are that gym memberships can be expensive and you gotta be careful to not get hurt. But I've gotten many scrapes and bumps.
@@Impositivelygay Bouldering, depending on the gym, doesn't go up so high. Plus, there's padded floors so it won't hurt if you fall. The only thing to do is to actually learn how to fall safely. I have a friend who is scared of heights but he's able to boulder and even top rope (style using the harness) and I think it's helped him. When we hiked he couldn't look over the edge of the cliff though, but I don't blame him.
Sorry if you felt that way :( We had a great time talking and we didn’t want it to feel like an interview but more like a conversation. Sometimes we talk over each other but I wanted to make him feel like we were just talking :)
He just goes up casually, kinda forgets that this is an interview not El Cap... 😂😂 what a legend
Alex is a great ambassador for the sport, its a shame they didnt have him live casting the boulders, woulda been actually watchable
He's commentated before for IFSC and he struggled. He is too literal for it.
@@Stanginsean281I quite enjoyed it when he did the commentating for Salt Lake City comp this year, made it a lot more entertaining in my opinion.

Free solo climbers and cave divers have a unique perspective on life to say the least.
I can understand the free solo, but can't for the cave one, lol, why

Not the colab I've expected
But the one we needed 😂
Glad they mentioned Alaine Robert! He is such a legend when it comes to climbing free solo and very talented French climber.

I guess Alex needs to share the location with Pete Whittacker - there's a crack next to the aircon channel 😅

Don't you think that being 'down to earth' is a pretty hilarious way of describing a climber?

@@daanvanoverbeek8637 well, he's still technically on earth though, haha
I would never expected to see these two people in one video :) Nontheless great!
Alex Honnold free soloing in trainers is not what I expected to see today...
They're approach shoes, meant for hiking and scrambling over boulders. So they're half climbing shoes
@@sunny2 Yeah, he's wearing TX Guides, which are some of the best approach shoes at climbing.
Alex is more than Olympics
Alex’s mom speaks French and would teach him when he was young.

why would you interview someone and not let them talk...
I have seen that guy making funny video based on english and french on his youtube channel
