Man Uwe Boll being so bent out of shape over bad reviews that he challenged his critics to a boxing match is one of my favorite WTF moments of 2000s pop culture.
It was a smart move. Kept people talking about him and building up his whole "OH NO UWE BOLL IS MAKING SHITTY MOVIES BASED ON MY BELOVED VIDEO GAMES, HOW DARE HE" reputation.
He does that because he has boxing training.
I still think this was all marketing. His first movies were basicly tax saving schemes for the companies involved, paired with the aim to make as much money as possible with as little effort as possible. Video games where perfect for that, because you could calculate with a certain guaranteed audience and the big IP names were cheap in the early 2000s. He knew his movies were horrible and kept himself in the media by defending them as high art. The boxing matches are only the logical conclusion of this plan. Again, he knew exactly what he was doing and was taking no risks.
Uwe was never intended to be director, he only made movies so he could exploit period of Germans paying with their tax money filmmakers to make movies, in hopes of reviving their cinema, because around that time you didn't have to pay back money if movie flop or performed badly, because point was not profit, but revitalization of German cinema. It's was ripe for loopholes and exploits, and I think I know how they did it.
To me House of the Dead and Alone in the Dark were two "so bad they're good" movies. They were his first ones and were just so laughable it's just hilarious. Later in his career I'd say he got better at actually making movies but this took all the fun out of them and just left us with pretty mediocre films with loose ties to their video game sources.
Every german knows not to watch any movie where Uwe Boll or Til Schweiger were involved in. That's among the first things you'll learn in Kindergarten.
Nah , in germany you learn to avoid german family movies. Those movies are much worse than uwe boll creations.
They suck so hard they use it as torture methods to punish their people for having better taste in movies , pupils in schools for bad grades and childrens which dont eat their vegetables.
Thats why we germans have bad taste in comedy and are fans of S&M.

Postal, and the rampage trilogy are very enjoyable films.
@@mikehoogstraaten2978 Rampage is actually pretty good. I knew it was Boll film and was going for it for "shits and giggles", but it actually had twist and fairly decent and disturbing plot. Nothing ground breaking, but I was going to trash it anyway in start, but couldn't in the end. Farcry certainly ain't the worst game movie either. Especially comparing to something like Alone in the Dark. Anyway Rampage is something I'd actually pretty much would recommend to see if nothing else comes to mind.

Strange is, as long as it is not related to a game (not sure about postal, cause that is a mixed bag) his stuff should be okay. But he once even mentioned he does game adaptations for the quick buck.
Uwe Boll once said in an interview: "i never played video games and i couldnt care less about them, but i just knew i could make a bunch of money with movies based on them."

BTW Uwe Boll lives in Vancouver, i guess thats somehow the reason they filmed it there + he also has some restaurants there which are running pretty well, at least thats what i heard.

Yeah, Till Schweiger did a convincing job as a member of the Basterds blasting Nazis almost as well as BJ (till he bit the bucket in that cool scene in the pub)... but well, after the abysmal Doom movie (Chris Rock and Karl Urban save it) let's see who's gonna dare ruin the Wolfenstein franchise next. ??

Yeah, a pity that a series with that kinda impact in game design and culture got that kind representation on the great screen...in the tradition of Super Mario Brothers. And well, BJ, maybe in Schweiger younger years when he was still a bit muscular (though his English might have been a tad crappier than currently XD)

This movie is not that bad compared to other Uwe Boll movies. The best movie he has ever done is called Rampage and it came out in 2009. That movie was so good I couldn't believe he directed it.
Assault on Wall Street, Tunnel Rats and Darfur were also pretty good. Actually, he seems to make better movies when they're not based on a video game.

Let's talk about the parallels between Jack Carver in this movie to another Jack from my favorite movie of all time; Jack Burton from Big Trouble in Little China. They both are uniquely underwhelming in their respective universes yet their presence is required for the events to unfold.
Jack Carver and Jack Burton are human McGuffins.
They are both simultaneously the focal point of the movie and certainly not the protagonists. Jack Carver, while present, contributed very little to what unfolded although it could be argued that his arrival acted as a catalyst and setting in motion the events of the movie. Carver:
1. Owns a boat.
2. Knows Max.
That is essentially what he brings to the Vancouver Monster Island table. Max does all the heavy lifting and then dies.
In the same vein, Jack Burton's chief contributions in Big Trouble in Little China are:
1. Owning a truck.
2. Killing Lo Pan.
That's basically it. Wang Chi is clearly the protagonist of Big Trouble in Little China as it is his motivation (rescuing kidnapped fiancée) that ultimately drives them to confront the Wing Kong and by extension, Lo Pan. Jack's truck being stolen only serves as a reason to place it at the end of the movie, which is also equally pointless for reasons I won't go into here.
I love both movies, but you gotta accept the fact that movies are dumb if you want to be entertained.

@@MentalParadox I don't see how he wasn't inspired by BJ. The way he was introduced and presented to act during the flashbacks alone was full on BJ levels of craziness, and looks. Even if it was subconscious, maybe the actor took inspiration, but there definitely was.

Not as a director, but a guy who refuses to give up on his dreams and keep doing what he loves. Though 2016 was his last movie, so I guess his time is up.
Apparently since 2016 he has be involved in the production of a couple that have been released, is also credited with writing and directing one in post production, and already has another in pre production he has writing and directing credits.

To add some context, as I understand it. Uwe Boll didn't quite buy game rights himself In order to make profitable movies from them, as much as they were acquired through a German Government film fund. It's also how he kept making adaptations even after they just kept flopping. It's a way to keep german film crews (and sometimes actors) employed.
I may not be completely accurate since I'm paraphrasing from past knowledge.
This movie is a far cry from the game series we've come to know and love.

I LOVED his first Rampage movie. Great indie movie that crosses lines most directors wouldn't.
Now review Uwe Boll's masterpiece, Postal, aka the only videogame movie officially considered canon by the game's creators.
I've seen that film and always get nervous about a movie that starts off with a 9/11 joke. I was sixteen when the Twin Towers fell and never like it when someone tries to play the deaths of nearly 3000 people for laughs. That being said, the joke *was* funny, but only for those with the nastiest sense of humour ever.
The true way to pronounce Uwe is "Oova", which makes sense since it rhymes with "Hoover" - the British term for vacuum cleaner. As in Boll's movies suck harder than a vacuum cleaner.
The movie is a far cry from the game.
Jack looks like B.J. from Wolfenstein New Order and later games.He only needs more muscle mass to completely pull it off.

It looks like it was filmed around the islands off the coast north-west of Vancouver, probably in the spring by the look of that river scene. Its not tropical but to be fair it almost never snows - it's just constantly grey and wet.
The cast minus the Germans seem to be pulled from the Vancouver area pool - quite a few of them are recognizable from shows that are/were produced here.
Uwe Boll lives here in the Vancouver area and has (or had?) a restaurant that is actually very well regarded.
I remember watching this movie with my dad and both of us being so angry by the time it was done.

At least they kept the scene when they fire a rpg rocket at the boat and Jack escaping alive and some parts of the game that are similar to the movie

And this ain't the first time he's starred in a shitty movie - check out "Proteus", which Fairbrass made in the mid-1990s. It's a cheap ripoff of "Leviathan" and even worse than this one. His girlfriend turns into a cheap-looking The Thing ripoff.
Based on the clips, it looks like in this movie the only vehicles that have their emblems visible are Volkswagens. Everything else has been stripped of emblems. I wonder if that was more German self-insertion or just a happy accident from working with a local dealership.

The guy getting surgery in the episode also starred in Day of the Dead as the zombie Bub. Which you also referenced later in the video. Is this a coincidence?
