This is my last TOP related video I'm ever gonna make (besides reacting to Clancy when it comes out), so if you're a TOP fan don't subscribe unless you want to watch other stuff non-TOP related
@TheonlyInstrumentalman I love Twenty one pilots but I don't want to be the "TOP guy", I want people to subscribe who will be interested in different content from TOP stuff
they have some really solid album openers. personally i love the rapping on ode to sleep, there's so much to unpack lyrically and some really interesting metaphors although the second verse is hard to understand at times because it's so fast and some of the words aren't pronounced super clearly. i seriously disagree with the choker slander, i love the simplicity of the track and the spoken word part at the end feels very reminiscent of some of their older songs. Backslide is also my favourite so far from Clancy but it's hard for me to give those songs a rating without the context of the rest of the album and having more time to live with them and see them performed live.
@@owalterluan I think his "fast rapping" style has improved since the initial release of Vessel including live performances of Ode to Sleep since, so if they were to re-record it would go harder. But sometimes I listen to the original recording and Tyler sounds like a dime-store Eminem. Whereas the sing-songy rapping in Migraine, and done most recently in The Outside and Overcompensate, is where Tyler shows himself as more of a 1 of 1 artist and not just regurgitating his influences. The fast rap that drops my jaw is Levitate, but this is also helped a lot by Paul Meany in that going for a straight 2:30 or so could lose the listener; the soundscape just keeps us on our toes.
It really is weird how music taste works. Because Scaled and Icy has grown on my quite a bit, and I actually really enjoy much of the album. I find your revised opinion that Overcompensate is repetitive as an odd one. Its structure is: Intro Second intro Refrain Chorus Verse Chorus Bridge Chorus Refrain Like... huh? I don't understand how it could be viewed as repetitive. I can't think of a single song with a structure even remotely similar to it.
I mean I guess you could look at it that way, if you remove the two intros and get straight to the meat and potatoes of the song, the song is: Chorus 1: 300 tracks on my Adidas Chorus main: I fly by the dangerous Verse Chorus main: I fly by Bridge Chorus 1: 300 tracks Chorus main: I fly by Everything is repeated, there's only the bridge and one verse that's unique. Instead of repeating Chorus 1 over again at the end, I would have liked to hear a third verse (it is rap after all which usually has more than just one or two verses). And the Chorus main felt repetitive at the end since it was the third time. Idk, just my pov
@@animalfries1 'it is rap after all'... I mean let's be honest, it's a pop song. And a chorus being used three times is just not over the top at all. 90%+ pop songs will use theur chorus three times. Jumpsuit: 3 times Morph: 3.5 times Stressed Out: 3 times Ride: 3.5 times Heavydirtysoul: 3.5 times Can't be bothered to look at the rest but it's almost certainly the same. I have never heard someone’s favorite song being morph but honestly, i respect that so much. It is such an underrated song. Not my favorite, but it deserves more love. my personal opinion on SAI… I love the album so much. It’s definitely my least favorite album but it’s still a great one imo. choker is my second favorite song on the album (other than redecorate). it came off of TRENCH (the best album ever imo). it was super unexpected. it fits with the lore but not as well musically. i have a huge range of music tastes and don’t tend to dislike music much. especially from twenty one pilots
Love the take on ST, personally I love ode to sleep. First verse is strange no doubt but second brings it home. I used to listen to a lot of regional at best and Tyler’s flow in O2S reminds me a lot of kitchen sink which feels more juvenile and similar to the self titled album stage of their career. However, I feel he does a much better job with O2S as far as pairing it with the percussion in a more satisfying way. Spot on with BF and Trench. Watching Josh perform the drum solo for Morph from 4 feet away in the pit was incredible. Love that song and the entire album since release. To be honest I have yet to listen to the other two good enough to comment 👀🤐
IMO next semester is easily the best of the new singles. At least a 9/10 twenty one pilots song. Can’t get over it. The pickup on the final chorus is absolutely phenomenal
Maybe good day isnt an exciting song but i think it was a great way of starting that album, it just communicates perfectly the concept of the album, choker is trash, shy away is catchy
