For Nietzsche's take on modern, decadent notions of "freedom," _Twilight of the Idols_ is a must-read, specifically "Skirmishes in a War with the Age," §§ 38-39.

"Freedom is how much it costs to remain on top" - Nietzsche. This definition I got quite recently from him. The individualism can not be a motive in this. You fight to remain the best. You are the best, and you die like the best (eventually with your sword in the hands). It's the top-down principle. Nothing bad in this. Be a philosopher-king, not only a philosopher...

"War is old men talking and young people dying."
The fight for survival might be instinctual, but war, as such, is a herd activity and takes advantage of that instinct, using it to push polItical agendas of other people that do not care about your life, only their own.

I agree with the ideals espoused, freedom and death before slavery and dishonor, but to fight a war is a monumental gamble. The risk is to be vanquished and eradicated from existence and history. Nobody likes getting conquered, vanquished & blotted out from history. It's a huge gamble with repercussions not only for one's self but also for one's children and loved ones. The heroic willingness to put your life and your family's lives on the line is no easy, simple decision for any man with love and conscience.

Steph, I can think of no better way for a person to become free than by placing themselves through hardship. And thinking on what the hardest thing I could possibly do, what could be harder than giving up most of not all modern comforts that this world affords to me. A clean body, a full belly, a soft cushion for my ass, a car to drive 100mph, an air conditioner, a roof. All these things numb us to the full experience of a life meant to be lived fully.
That's why I, after much deliberation, have decided to become homeless for the next 6 months. hiking from my home state of Georgia 2000 miles north to Maine. I will live every day feeling the blistering heat of the sun, The bite of the cold, The joy of a fresh meal. Above all that I will endure whatever doubts and trickery my mind can throw at me to convince me to abandon my quest and resume my life of mediocrity.
    This, I will do

“It makes no difference what men think of war, said the judge.
      War endures.
As well ask men what they think of stone.
      War was always here.
Before man was, war waited for him.

Idk if this is going to make any sense, but I think this relates to the idea of freedom… Liberal coming from the word liberate. sovereign individual, sovereign being one that is unfit to be a slave, as in a king that has authority. Sovereign individuals being one that has authority over oneself, who is liberated from the slavery of his own mind. And this plays into the general polarity in life, two patterns that people live under… the positive polarity being knowledge, wisdom, and understanding (virtue/action). To become open to the truth, to recognize truth if we are in it, the willingness to gain knowledge… the expansive force of consciousness, or your will (free will). Acceptance of the truth leads to wisdom or integration of knowledge, and understanding is the use of knowledge and wisdom for directed action. What should we attend to, where our attention, our energy, or consciousness should be focused/directed… what do you care enough about to direct your will towards achieving…
So the negative polarity of this pattern is to live in FEAR. To live in fear leads to a rejection of the Truth, Ignorance or willful blindness, and finally inaction or negative action… it is the refusal to gain knowledge. it is important to understand that Ignorance should be distinguished from NESCIENCE. Nescience means not knowing because necessary information is not present or unobtainable. Ignorance, on the other hand, means not knowing even though necessary information is present, because that information has been willfully refused or disregarded. And so Fear leads to Ignorance which blinds man and this in turn results in Inaction or negative action. And this is also why so many people are still Unconscious. People are fearful of the responsibility that comes with knowledge, and most of all, they are fearful of having to ACT based upon knowledge because that requires COURAGE, the willingness or desire to succeed, to be victorious, to conquer... People often abdicate responsibility, they want others to think for them, to lead; they become the blind led by the blind, so to speak… fear is what creates opportunity for tyranny, and ultimately what keeps a person a slave.
This is related to the old ideas that Knowledge is Power, that the Truth will set you free… as Fredrick Douglas once stated, “Knowledge makes a man unfit to be a slave”… this is why our founding fathers said, that with great power comes great responsibility (or was that Spider-Man’s uncle?) anyways, freedom places the individual at the axiomatic center of society, and thus if freedom is lost it is because the individuals failed to secure it themselves. Freedom is something earned, something fought for, and it is a continual battle. A battle of an individuals against themselves and their own presuppositions, a battle between the individual and the collective unconscious, a battle of individual will against the will of society as a whole… hence why the ancients said, “They shall not build and another inhabit; they shall not plant and another eat; for like the days of a tree shall the days of my people be, and my chosen shall long enjoy the work of their hands.” - Isaiah 65:22.
“If you live a pathological life, you pathologize society, and when enough people do that then it’s hell.” - Jordan B. Peterson… and it’s no wonder why the founding fathers made freedom of speech the first of the enumerated constitutional rights, because freedom to speak is equivalent to freedom of thought. Coming at a close second is the second amendment rights to bear arms, the ability to act when it becomes necessary…
“The world is calling Knowledge out of you, and it must respond. This is the power of your time, and it will give you work to do that will be fundamental and necessary, both within yourself and in the world.”
    - M.V. Summers
All of our thinking and philosophizing does nothing when it lacks the crucial aspect of action. “to understand a thing is a bridge and possibility for returning to the path; but to explain a matter is arbitrary and sometimes even murder. Have you counted the murderers among the scholars?..”
    - Carl Jung, Red Book chapter 1.
Knowledge and wisdom turn into folly or foolishness without its integration in action. It requires danger since people only act out of necessity; it’s responsibility and duty. And death is the ultimate danger.. it puts life into perspective, gives value to life; death is hard but part of life, something you must accept. This is how death completes a person. The question in the end won’t be “how long did you live?” The question is “did you give?”… and your regrets will be of actions taken or not taken, how much did you give? Did you give your all?… these are the things that death shines new light upon… to be free involves thought and action; without action mere thought becomes slavery, death. A web of words weaved, and you become the first who is caught in that web.

Freedom is not being a slave to rich merchants.
    You are their slave.

Your account of Caesar isn't entirely accurate. Before Caesar took an army to Gaul, he was involved in what is called the first triumvirate where he went into an alliance with Pompey as well as another Roman politician Crassus with the intention of undermining the republic and change the Roman constitution to a monarchy.

When it comes to politics and law, I'd rather know nothing about it. However the fact is that it regulates the financing, kid's education, food production, gas prices, etc. Here in the U.S. the Democrats recently passed a law that gives them access to hundreds of billions of dollars for their plan to "reduce climate change" and allow people to have cheaper drugs. Know thyself first, but also know they enemy. The natural law(law of the land) is very simple, do no harm to other humans and their property. But the western world is built on the law of the sea, in which they can use "Legalese" a language similar to English, but which has more than one meaning, which allows them to trick people to agree to something that they don't know truly. The rabbit hole goes deep.

Thus spake Zarasthustra is probably the best to start with. My father always told me to first get to know the philosophy of the individual before reading the original works. That way you will understand the meaning way better. Highly recommend that.

I read everything Nietzsche wrote and consider Zarathustra one of his WORST books. He wrote it very quickly as a sort of relaxing therapy after a period of intense writing of more troublesome but better books.
I must admit though, that it may be simply a matter of taste since I find a 'biblical tone' in any writing (eg. Moby Dick) pretty unbearable, and Zarathustra has that in bucketloads
I think 'Beyond Good and Evil' is one of his best, in terms of really splendid writing. Nietzsche can be very humorous if read properly.
Also: I think it a great mistake in the case of Nietzsche to do as the other commentator here recommends and start with secondary literature.
It was a constant theme in Nietzsche's writing that there can be, and ought not be, a separation between an idea and exactly how that idea is expressed.
Nietzsche is a fabulous writer as writer, in terms of style and insists the 'style' is fundamental

I got revolution in my heart but Im not a charismatic speaker. Im a good leader but I cant move people to fight for me. Maybe 3 or 4 guys but everyone has to goto work in the morning, they wont roll the dice.
Id lead the charge if I wasn't convinced everyone would just watch me get smashed.

Hail mr uberboyo. As per usual i love the content. I have a question though. So carl jung and Aion ( loved your series on that ) and mushrooms has brought me to spirituality and i suppose the ultimate value to my mind, following the example of christ as best i can.
That being said, i also really empathise with and see the sense in Nietzsches message here. But, what im struggling too marry in my heart is, it seems to survive and not be crushed into a bug, i may have to fight. Succumb to the instinct of Aries as he pounds the drum of rage within my soul, in regards to all i see unfolding.
But is that not the spirit of dionysus? Is rasing the sword not in opposition to the example of christ. Yet, it seems harnessing the darkness within my own soul, may become a necessity. For my own survival but potentially my family.
How do i answer what seems an vital call to survive, without turning from the christ spirit and potentially suffering ill of it when my time comes.
Can you be a warrior, and remain true to the Christian spirit?
It seems we are compelled be just that, i just struggle to marry the two.
Health and strength to you. Cheers for reading 🙏

I got sucked back into Christianity and decided to read the bible for myself without any interpretation or commentary. What I found was both contradictory and disturbing. Paul taught something completely different to what Jesus taught. So I rejected anything written by Paul and concentrated only on what Jesus was supposed to have taught. THE one verse that made me start to question Jesus’ teachings was Luke 14:26. After that I couldn’t read it anymore. It doesn’t make sense, either morally or practically. It is an anti-life philosophy using the fear of hell in order for obedience to it. I’m actually embarrassed as to how I got hoodwinked. Nietzsche, Jung, Dostoevsky and the Roman Empire philosophy make much more sense to me.

Not related, ive seen a lot of videos about 'dererminism' and everything out of your control and lifes story is set in stone. As true as it is, i think those who subscribe, often use it as 'copeium'! And stop trying to make choices/changes that influence their lives better. Most religons express 'free-will' maybe not because its true but, for society its more advantagous to believe! Whats your thoughts uberboyo xoxo
