On this week's Stumped, Alison Mitchell, Brett Sprigg and Sunil Gupta look back at the Men’s 50-over World Cup final and discuss who will be part of the next generation of India cricket stars.
Plus, Pat Cummins has had a standout year as captain of Australia winning the World Test Championship Final, retaining the Ashes and now winning the 50 Over World Cup. We get an insight into the man himself with his former New South Wales teammate and former Australia player Trent Copeland. Trent tells us what Pat was like in the dressing room and whether he always thought Pat would be a natural leader.

We’re so lucky to have Pat Cummins. And so proud to have him lead us. I for one stopped watching cricket after sandpaper gate. It was disgraceful. Australian team played hard they sledged they were in your face but they weren’t cheats. I distanced myself from cricket. But Pat Cummins single-handedly brought me back to it.

    • @bellabana
      @bellabana 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

You’re beyond naive and gullible if you don’t realize that ALL cricket teams have always used all sorts of tricks to gain an advantage with the ball since since the game was invented.
It’s not new, it’s just that they were caught on camera, whereas it’s been happening forever, they paid the price for it and it was interesting that cricketers from other countries thought the penalty was too harsh because they knew themselves what happens in the game.
And this ‘gentleman’ narrative is just more of the same, it was because the Aussies were winning for years and years under hard nosed captains like Border, Waugh, Pointing so of course other teams and countries needed something to tear them down and ‘sledging’ became the default excuse. All while ignoring the fact other teams sledged as well, it’s pure hypocrisy to claim otherwise.

Australian cricketers at times can be pretty ugly and down on humility. Pat has been a breath of fresh air and it is obvious that his team would follow him to Hell and back. When JL was discarded I too thought that he had been treated unfairly. However, in retrospect, I suspect that much was going on beneath the surface that we were not aware of! What Cummings, the team, and all the support staff have achieved in the last two years is absolutely amazing. And the Australian team has done it without all the sledging and bad sportsmanship associated with former sides. The team is now one to be proud of both in performance and attitude, led by someone exemplary in every way.

In my humble opinion, I dont wanna take any credit away from OZ for the way they played the Final in particular doing all that needs to be done to win the coveted trophy.
Said that, Ind too contributed to OZ victory by applying few tactical errors to perfection like \:
    1. Rahul and Virat gone into a shell after Rohit lost his wicket to a spectacular catch by Head
    2. Surya not scoring enough boundaries in the backend also he denied few singles on offer not trusting his partner. These days every run do matter
    3. Allowed the Aus batters to stroll in the park for singles by not putting enough fielders inside the circle
    4. No slip fielders at all when premier spinners were bowling crucial overs.
    5. Rohit failed to use a decent part timer in Shreyas Iyer like what Aus did in SF by trying Head to roll his arm over, from nowhere he delievered a possible hat trick ball.
All said and done, Aus played absolutely fantastic true to their potential resulted in adding their World Cup tally. Key to Aus' WC winning was their perfect planning and execution. Well done, Australia the Champs!!

Not enough was made of Kohli scoring 54 from 63 balls ... in these circumstances he needed to put the foot down and basically do a Travis Head. Start slogging into the gaps and put the momentum back in India's favour. He was quite circumspect when the situation called for more front foot batting. Although, if VK was able to keep going and score a hundred then you would say it served a purpose but the innings fizzled out afterwards. Kohli and Sharma didn't do enough.

Says a guy who happens to be working where? IN EUROPE (Sweden after studying and working in UK). REALITY is India Isn't a Sporting Country where it has Won Just Few Medals at Few Sports. Olympics - China started participating as the People's Republic of China in Olympics from 1952 while India started participating in Olympics from 1900. India has 35 Medals in Summer Olympics and 0 in Winter Olympics. China has 713 Medals (636 at Summer Olympics and 77 at Winter Olympics) where China STARTED DOING WELL in 1980s and BECAME BIG FROM 2000.
Yes, More Like Dictatorship from the Time a Person is a Small Child. That's What China Did. Most Other Nations, Most Kids are Encouraged to Play and Compete at Various Sports from the Time they are Small Kids (India has that a Bit But Not With Most Kids as Just Few out of 1.5 Billion Indians have that while Many More NRIs get those opportunities).
Australia, South Korea, Japan, Netherlands, China, etc started doing well in Olympics in 1980s and Became Big by turn of 21st Century (2000s) - Took Them 30 to 40 Years to go from being nations with Just Few Medals in Various Sports to Nations that are Amongst Top 3 like China to Top 10 like Australia to Top 15 like Japan, South Korea, Netherlands (AND JAPANESE FANS ARE THE WORLD'S BEST, FAIREST who also helps out in CLEANLINESS AFTER THE GAMES).
