    The Bengali part talks about the beauty of women , English part talks about the strength of women. The common theme is women. English part has pop music and the Bengali part is sung in its original tune . This is fusion ,some will like it and some will don't. As a Bengali am proud that non Bengalis are getting to know this sweet folk song coz of the coke version !

      The 1st comment that actually reflects what this exceptional piece is symbolic for. The original song may be infused with modern instruments but the essence of the song is intact. And hope at least a few people like us would enjoy it.

    • @sayankundu1492
      @sayankundu1492 9 ปีที่แล้ว +30

      The problem here is not the fusion of east meets west, but trying to infuse rather forcefully two completely different emotions.... One, a newly wed beautiful woman (shundori komola) on her way to her new home..... and everyone around is happy....
      The English lyrics says about the darker side of a woman how she fights her way (maybe out of a bad marriage )
      So in a way its connected but it would've been better off keeping it innocent and simple as a Bengali.. :D

      @Abol Tabol Sir, with all due respect...I will give you a few points as there are too many and little time to elaborate all. why this is a Bangla song (Mymensingh dialect). Bangladesh was created in 1971. This song was sung for atleast 3 centuries before in that region when Bengal was united and Assam also was called Bengal frontier with Brahmaputra being a natural border.
      1. Both Bangla and Assamese are derived from Eastern Magadhi Prakrit, both with roots in Sanskrit, so they are similar.I being born in Calcutta (now called Kolkata), brought up in Assam, I can speak and write both fluently alongwith English, Hindi and Sanskrit.
      2. A song is sung in a language. I does not follow geography.
      3. If this is sung in Assam it makes me proud. Both Bangla and Assamese have same roots, similar words and almost similar script.
      now counterpoint...one at a time...Assamese language does not pronounce "S". it uses "H". Assam is actually Ahom isn't it.
      Also...the problem is that English is not as rich as our languages. There are minor differences like "au" and "o". Also.. both our languages have multiple dialects. Kolkatans will be unable to understand Sylheti bangla or Cachari Bangla.
      Please tell me if Ahomiya differs from Guwahati to Sivasagar.
      No fighting with other. I want to learn. Let this be a healthy debate.
      People may be separate but Music is Universal.
      Thanks and do teach me more about Beautiful Ahom.

      @Abol Tabol Interesting information. I will reply after doing more research. I am sure I can get more knowledge from National Library and Asiatic Society library. Internet and wikipedia are unreliable. There is definitely some linguistic connection.
      Just one counterpoint... Mymensingh district went to East Pakistan during partition. Mymensingh is actually closer to Assam. So this song i.e the Bangla version was sung in East Bengal which later became East Pakistan and then Bangladesh. It was brought to West Bengal when my ancestors migrated in 1947.
      Glad that we are having a mature and educational discussion.
      Please provide me more info. If I get some information from library I would share.
      Thanks and Take care.

The people in the comment section seem to be 'greater musicians' I must say who has right to say whatever they want about the composition and about them who did a hardwork over it. I have only one thing to say to them that music is endless and it can't be bounded in a specific composition, place, religion or country. So get over it and enjoy because it's not offending the song, it's recreating its beauty.

    • @GUULLIVER
      @GUULLIVER ปีที่แล้ว +2

      She was merely a singer, not the creator of the song. It is a very old folk song from distant past and nobody really knows who created it. Folk songs are often like that. You see Pratima Pandey Baruah singing it (perhaps before other recorded artists) because after the advent of recording technology she may have been the first one to record this song or even if there were other recordings before her they are lost. So, basically all it means is that she could merely be the first recorded artist of this song at best. That means sometime in late 20th century. But this song is centuries older than that. In short, she is NOT the author/composer, merely a singer like thousands, perhaps millions more before and after her. Original credit goes to nobody, because origin is unknown.
