I'm glad you went for it, and showed this beauty here on TH-cam, looks great!, it's crazy that you have been able to come this far in such a short period of time.
You hit the ground running Jim. That's definitely worth every penny. What a beautiful knife. Congratulations I can't wait to see what you do for your first folder. 😎👍
Really well done there Jim , I bet you couldn't wait to show that to your mates ! Looking forward to seeing your first flipper , bet you can't wait to get into making them !
This is the video I have been looking for. Wow what a beautiful knife. From someone who thought they could not make a knife to this in 10 months awesome. It gives me hope lol. Hope to see more and maybe a shop tour. I also appreciate the little details about the knife and how you went about making it. By far your best video.
I don't think you are pretentious doing your own knife reviews. I love hearing what your thought process was in creating your knife design, the tid-bits of information and interaction with your maker community, as well as technical info on materials or execution. I already enjoy watching your vids, but your work showcased is fantastic. I mostly follow you on Instagram now because it's immediate gratification. However, I'm going to take the time to dig through your TH-cam archive and view more of your vids that I've missed over the last six months. Your vids are too good to neglect dude. Thanks. 😎
Congrats on getting accepted into the prestigious society! I know that your website says that you'll stop naming them after bones once you've run out, but I think that you'll have plenty of time and innovation before that time comes!
Jim, I don't know if I should feel embarrassed or humored that I just figured out the meaning behind the names of your blades. Works out pretty well too since there are so many names to pick from. I see what you did there buddy ;)
Damn Jim, that is just a SickaDope knife man! Love this one and want, got my eye on your Hellraiser tho. I WILL own one as soon as my "books" clear up. Thanks for sharing
great looking blade jim, very reminiscent of the silent solider and i mean that only as a compliment. i think i might be interested in one sometime in the future
Nothing wrong with showing off were you initially started to where you are now. It’s killer work and I can tell your a proud papa. Their will always be haters but it’s a good way to promote the quality of work your spewing out. It’s definitely got my attention, I know quality when I see it and I know what hard work is worth; I can see it and your passion with-in this knife. I know your well known on here and IG and have alot of extraordinary connections to help you along the way... I’m just seeing real talent show through, especially as you continually progress... From that first knife you grinded on your own aways back to this. My, have “you upped your game”, as I posted also in IG. Keep up the intuitive craftsmanship you have been molding & shaping into a keen eye for the details and the hands to be able to reciprocate into your work... just saying. I’m still looking forward to this flipper you mentioned. O, congrats on the induction of several of your blades into the Guild. Done rambling now...
Jim your finish on the Damasteel is gorgeous. Great job with the polish before the etch, it really shines on the video! When you start making folders don’t keep it a secret, OK?
Matthew King The Advanced Tibia (this model in the video), yes I am. I retired the Tibia because I am releasing a production version with Reate of that model.
Oh yea one more thing, 235 bucks for an affordable model?! Hell I can go to Wallll Murt and get a knife for 3 bucks and it comes with dem dare serrations. Hell I can chop down a dang tree with that thing. Bet sure knife can’t cut a damn chickens 🐓 head off!
Jim I really like your work. However to start asking close to $500.00 bucks after you have only been making knives for ten months that aren't even folders? Then you talk about $1,000.00 for a damassteel blade? Sorry I just think one has to pay some dues and get a deserved rep. Look at some of the people you are conpeating with. Is this your full time job now?
rmichael paisley I have, and will continue to be paying my dues. More than 50% of my builds are for repeat customers, and I feel that speaks to the work that I do. At this point, I’ve been making knives for ten months and have made about 200 of them. Each run and mostly each knife is a new challenge that I push myself towards. You can’t lay out a blanket statement in what a knifemaker should charge. I don’t use inexpensive materials and I also put a lot of time into my finish work. Aside from all that, I’m not a hobbyist or a part time maker with a steady paycheck to rely upon. Every knife I make is income, my sole income. I can only make “X” number of knives per month to pay those bills. I’d love to charge materials + $100 for every knife I make, but that doesn’t support my family. Nor does it properly pay me a working man’s wage. My labor charge is somewhere between what fast food employees are fighting to get, and what a local garage mechanic makes. Hardly overblown by any stretch of the imagination. On top of that, you’re not just factoring in cost of materials, electricity and consumables like grinding belts/sandpaper/etc but you have to then reinvest the same amount of money on materials, consumables etc for the NEXT knife you have to make. If you only charge what that one knife costs you, you can only make that one knife and never make another one.
The cost of materials and man hours easily dictates the price I think. I personally wouldn’t spend that much on a fixed blade but that’s not how pricing works. Pricing depends on what materials are used, and the amount of man hours worked mainly. To say a knife that cost $500 in plain materials shouldn’t be quite a bit more than $500 is crazy. He said the handle material was $400 and the blade material around $150 along with the $20 screws. That’s $570 just for blocks of raw material it’s simple as that. I mean no disrespect at all and understand thinking it’s expensive but regardless of his experience the knife was expensive to make and they buyers willing to pay that much will want a knife made from exotic materials.
I'm glad you went for it, and showed this beauty here on TH-cam, looks great!, it's crazy that you have been able to come this far in such a short period of time.

Unholy fucking shit, Jim!!
Impressive!! You do beautiful work.
My ONLY suggestion is:

Jim are you still making the Tibia? Man they are wicked and I want one!!
Matthew King The Advanced Tibia (this model in the video), yes I am. I retired the Tibia because I am releasing a production version with Reate of that model.
Nice work Jim and I'm very very picky on details. I see one small correctable thing, but overall very good work.
How much is it, for us common folk?
sn00ch Probably best to watch the video.... where I fully detail the prices
The handle looks like plywood or layered g10, dont understand the hype :D
But the steel is gorgeous
I feel the gimping should be moved closer to the handle and maybe you could have also added them to the choil.
needs a ways to go to get there...
How can i get one please let me no.
David Muñoz my website is in the video description.
Do you forge your own Damascus?
Hi Jim,
Do you want an apprentice?

Quality is quality. It doesn’t matter how long you’ve been doing something if it’s quality it’s quality
