  • WELCOME TO A NEW AGE. THE AGE OF ENGINEERED MARKETING

    About the talk:
The days of ‘Mad Men’ Marketing agencies and large hocus-pocus campaigns have long gone.
    We all know that.
But what if Direct Marketing is slowly going into extinction all together?! Marketing is becoming more and more value-focused. Nobody cares about your ‘genius’ campaigns, they care about the value you can create for them.
‘Give, give, give..then, and then only, ask for something in return’ is the new doctrine floating over Marketing. Content has done the honours of introducing us to this doctrine. However, we can take this concept so much further..
Engineered Marketing has ushered in a new era of data and tool-based marketing.
Engineered Marketing aka Side-Project Marketing is all about building small tools and resources of high (yet free) value... Attracting customers by taking their needs seriously instead of assuming they’ll fall for your ‘genius’ ad campaigns.
    About the speaker:
Pieter Levels: Entrepreneur. Nomad. Developer. Designer.
Pieter Levels is the ‘guy who launched 12 startups in 12 months’. He’s an execution machine who’s created ‘a tiny personal hyperfast incubator’ for himself. Needless to say, he knows how to ‘get sh!t done’.
Levels is most famous for Nomad List. A list of the best cities to live and work remotely for digital nomads. A nomad himself, Pieter travels to work across the world while bootstrapping companies.
He’s also currently working on the finishing touches of his book, MAKE, on ‘bootstrapping a startup from idea and launch to growth and monetization without money’.

12:28 Hi, DampeS8N here. Yep, that was my comment. Little did I know 10 years ago that my stupid comment would show up in some TH-cam video of a talk where it was in a Power Point 6 years later and that 4 years after that someone would see it, find the answer on SO and leave a comment on that comment to tell me about it. But here we are. We live in that universe. I wish I still had the free time to comment on Stack Overflow's newest PHP questions.
I have not watched the whole video here, but what I have seen sounds like solid advice.

I have trouble leaving my comfort zone too, mostly because I have no money to travel. There for I struggle with ideas that solve problems. How do you recommend someone get into digital nomad'ing? All my ideas are very large - from green movements, to political activity movements, to economy solutions. How do I stop thinking so big? Is thinking this big a bad thing? You said do not start with a website or app so big.

    • @levelsio
      @levelsio 7 ปีที่แล้ว +15

Kyle Scott travel has nothing to do with this video (except maybe getting ideas). You can get ideas anywhere you have problems. How to stop thinking big? Think smaller. Try to solve tiny problems you have in your day to day life. Airbnb didn't start as a big movement, they started as a paid Couchsurfing alternative.
If you're not successful yet then yes thinking big is probably keeping you away from actually making anything since it paralyzes you as nothing you can do now is big enough. So, start small.

Just focus on the PAIN! Try to find out your pain and relieve it. Guess what possibly there is 1/3 of the world in the same situation you are in. Thats how it starts.

Reddit isn't a great place to advertise your app if it's paid. There's a lot of subreddits that have rules against advertising and they will flag it as advertisement easily. If anything, make your app free for the first few weeks and bring it out to people on forums and Reddit asking for feedback.
