the crazy thing about taeyeon is that she's equal parts talent, hard work, and passion. talent in that she was a kid who used to practice singing in front of a computer and begged her dad to let her get singing lessons. she was driven to and from seoul and jeonju (her home province) like everyday and her dad told her singing academy that if she didn't have talent they should just tell her now since it's such an arduous process. but she DID have talent and very quickly became the best student in that academy even with barebones training. like so much talent that she was asked by her voice teacher to sing a song with him at 15 years old (th-cam.com/video/HBGZT9xsWYc/w-d-xo.html). a few months after this was released she won a national singing competition arraged by SM entertainment (beating like 10,000 people) and then officially started her trainee life in that company.
she's also constantly improving and has changed her singing style extensively throughout the years. as a young girl you'll notice how chest-heavy and full her voice was, which made it a bit more difficult for her to reach high notes but it was insanely stable and resonant. now high notes are much easier for her (seeing her sing old songs in the girls' generation fanmeeting last year i was shocked about how easy those high notes she used to sing are now to her).
and the passion is just nuts. she's been lazer-focused on her singing career for YEARS. she honestly blew up as a solo artist in 2008 (just a year after girls' generation's debut) because her OST "If" went mega viral in Korea (it's still charting now), but she didn't capitalize it and focused on her group. it's only 7 years after that she debuted as a solo artist (while also participating in girls' generation activities). the girls' generation members said she was very quiet as a trainee and hated being in the spotlight, but that attention would naturally gravitate towards her when she opened her mouth. this seems true as the 2006 SM Entertainment Trainee Showcase had tons of fan accounts that were dedicated to her despite it being the first time she was revealed publicly.

You don't even need to understand the lyrics. Just listen and you will literally tear up. The way she convey the emotion through her voice will make you emotional as well.

@@NeonReactionsPierre I'm slightly new to SNSD and to Taeyeon, but I would assume that it is because her last name is KIM and it's closer to the word "King" which someone might have mistakenly greeted her by during one of Taeyeon's live stream (this is just my theory). 🤔
However, there's an actual clip in the SNSD guide by ohwoowoo (highly recommended to check) wherein she prefer to be called as "King" instead of the usual "Queen" that some fans used to tag female idols.😅

Yeap, she move up to the top of my list too when I start to discover her with her group! It’s been over a decade and she is still up there in my list. I can’t find someone to replace her with that style of singing and tone. She just got everything that I like about music 😄
The reasons Taeyeon got so emotional singing ' I ' are because, a) it's her very first official solo, and b) she wrote it ( 4 solo albums later and to the best of my knowledge it's the only song she's written herself). Among her many titles ( "Kid Leader", "Byuntae = Pervert Taeyeon "😄, "The Idol's Idol" and "King Taeyeon") she's also known as "OST Queen"...I think she's sung more drama soundtrack songs than anyone else,.
Though rightfully lauded for her 'power ballads' she's very versatile...genre doesn't matter to her, just quality~~she simply doesn't have even an 'average' song her discography, let alone a 'bad' one.
In contrast to what you've experienced of Taeyeon so far, I'll suggest the following:
Devils' Cry + Run Devil Run (with SNSD) (live)
Lady Marmalade (Moulin Rouge version) with Tiffany (live)
Holler (with Seohyun and Tiffany (MV)...the three of them being the SNSD sub-unit "TaeTiSeo/TTS)

You are welcome. Really every single song of hers is special, just thought I'd give you a sense of her variety off the top of my head. Devils Cry, though VERY short, will simply amaze you (I'm sure) and it's paired with Run Devil Run because it's related and because you'll see her go from that high power solo vocal performance straight into the RDR dance/song with her group SNSD with about 10 seconds between them (and she and they look spectacular too!)
The Lady Marmalade performance with Tiffany is MUCH Better than the one originally done by Aguillera/Pink/Lil'Kim/Someone else, and she has a LOT of fun with it too (Tiffany should also impress you).
When We Were Young will probably require tissues.
Holler is upbeat R+B ish.
I Got Love has a fascinating musical arrangement and is very sultry.
Stress is great fun...actually comic because Taeyeon...well you'll see.
Up and Down is just cool.
Something New is 'dark' but 'hopeful' and the MV is wild.

Silver and red dress as well as the last song “All night long” are from the Seoul concert in 2019 and when she has blond long hair it’s the Japan 2019 Signal Tour. Both concerts are on YT in full length, and they are a lot to handle being hit for 90+ minutes with that voice, show, atmosphere, beauty ;-)
She is a bit of a “Siren” (pun intended - one of her latest songs is called that) - she draws you in . It has to be some kind of spell, but a good one ;-)

Her The Unseen concert was her best vocally, she performed Into The Unknown like she's strolling at the park lol but it got limited fancams/no dvd shots because it was cancelled due to the pandemic.
I'm with you if you really want to go deep dive on taeyeon and snsd. But just to remind you that their live performances are much better than studio recording 😂😂. That's why, sones always recommend concert edition than mvs 😂😂. Can't wait to watch your next reaction on taeyeon & snsd 😊

While of course all of her title tracks of her EPs and Albums are amazing, I find her B-sides are the true hidden gems! My favourite B-sides from her are definitely Drawing Our Moments and Time Lapse. Her albums Purpose (Repackage), My Voice, INVU, etc. all such a flawless discography I hope you are able to take a listen to.
